Step1 Warm-up and lead- in
T shows Ss a calendar and turns it to 31 October.
T: Look, it is red. Can you tell me why? Yes, because it’s a festival.
It is Halloween.
Step2 Presentation
1. Give some introduction of the festival-Halloween by watching a short video about the origin of the festival.
2. Present some pictures of different Chinese festivals and let the students to talk about the date and the activities of each festival.

3. Present some pictures of festivals in Western countries, and introduce them. For example, Halloween (31 October): make pumpkin lanterns, dress up and wear masks, dress up as ghosts, play a game called “trick or treat”. Thanksgiving Day(on the fourth Thursday in November):all the family get together and have a big dinner, usually they eat turkey, give thanks for the good things in life. Christmas (25 December): decorate a Christmas tree and give presents to each other.
4. Ask the students to finish the exercise in Part A.
5. Play the tape recorder of Part B and ask two questions:
Q1: What is Tommy’s favourite festival?
Q2: What is Millie’s favourite festival?
6. Let the students read the dialogue and answer two more questions:
Q3: Why does Tommy like Christmas?
Q4: What do people do to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival?
7. Let the students make a new dialogue about their favorite festivals

8. Show students the comic strip and lead them to look at Picture Three and ask them what Hobo is doing.
T: Yes, he is dressing himself up as a ghost.
9. Play the tape recorder and ask Ss answer two questions.

Q2: Hobo wants to dress up as a ghost. What does Eddie think of it?
Q3: What will Hobo dress up as then?
10. Read the dialogue after the tape.

A Happy Chinese New Year!
Step1 Lead in
T shows Ss some pictures about the Spring Festival and asks Ss some questions:
Q1: What festival is this?
Q2: Do you like the Chinese New Year?
Q3: Why do you like it?
Q4: What do you always do during the Chinese New Year?
Step2 Presentation
Present the new words from the above questions and teach the new words: lion, lion dance, firework (let off fireworks), show, radio, take photos.
We do a lot of interesting things during the Chinese New Year. Do you know how people in New York celebrate the Chinese New Year? Please turn to page 63. Read the poster and answer my questions.

At Halloween, people dress up and wear masks or paint their faces. They try to make themselves different from usual, because it’s a special day.

On the evening of October 31, people will have a party to celebrate the festival. What do you think they will do at the party? Play a radio about the Halloween party. A summary: People usually have nice food and drinks at parties.
Millie’s pen friend Wendy lives in the USA. She writes a letter to Millie to tell her something about Halloween. Now let’s listen to the letter and answer two questions:
