There are also differences in grammar between Chinese and sign language.
Having traveled to over 30 cities in China because of the job, she has learned about the special ways deaf people across the country use sign language.

Why do some people overcome challenges while others give up Carol S. Dweck explores this question in Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. The book’s main idea is simple but powerful: 46
According to Dweck, people have either a fixed mindset (固定思维) or a growth mindset. Those with a fixed mindset believe that abilities can’t be changed. 47 But those with a growth mindset believe they can improve with effort, and they often push themselves to grow.
Dweck explains that people with a growth mindset are more likely to have an interest in learning. 48 This kind of thinking encourages persistence Over time, that can lead to better results-not only in school but also in sports, relationships and work.
So how can you apply a growth mindset to your daily life Dweck offers several practical suggestions. One important idea is to pay attention to your self-talk. 49 When you face something difficult, avoid saying, “I’m just not good at this.” Instead, say, “I’m not good at this yet.” That one word-yet-can change your whole attitude. It reminds you that you’re still learning and growing.
Another useful suggestion is to embrace (接受) challenges. Don’t back away from something just because it seems hard. 50 Dweck shares the stories of successful athletes and business leaders who kept pushing themselves after setbacks. Their growth mindset helped them stay motivated.
Finally, the book encourages readers to view effort as a strength, not a weakness. It’s effort that leads to lasting success.
A.When you fail, ask yourself how you can improve next time.
B.With this mindset, we can all become better leaders.
C.The way we think about our abilities can shape our whole lives.
D.They don’t see failure as a sign of weakness but as a chance to improve.
E.That’s exactly the time to keep going.
F.They may avoid challenges or feel discouraged (气馁) by failure.

The sun is the strongest source of energy in the world. This giant, hot ball sends out more 61 than people could ever use.
To catch this energy, we have solar cells (电池). They collect sunlight and turn it into electricity. These cells are put together to make solar panels (控制板). A single panel holds thousands of solar cells, 62 it can produce a large amount of electricity—enough that just a few panels can provide electricity for a whole house.
Compared to traditional energy sources like fossil fuels, solar power has many 63 . For one thing, it is clean. It does not produce any air pollution. Fossil fuels (化石燃料), however, are usually dirty to burn. They give off 64 gases. Air pollution from fossil fuels may even make our climate too warm.
Solar power is 65 than fossil fuels in some ways. Air pollution from fossil fuels causes expensive damage. People get sick from breathing in dirty air. Gases from burning oil also hurt plants, animals and buildings. Solar power would help 66 save billions of dollars in these “hidden” costs.
There are still some problems with solar power, though. The 67 problem is that solar cells work only on sunny days. At night or in cloudy weather, people need another power source. Solar panels also have size problems. They are very large. Many large solar panels are needed to make enough electricity. It would be hard to find such large places for them all. For these reasons, solar energy usually costs 68 as much as power from fossil fuels.
Solar cells are not that efficient (有效的) yet, either. They do not use all the sunlight that hits them. 69 , only 20 percent of the light can be turned into power, leaving most of it wasted. This waste means that 70 more efficient cells, solar power may not be able to replace fossil fuels. People need to invent more efficient cells that can make full use of sunlight. Then the cost of solar energy will fall, and our planet will become cleaner and healthier for everyone.

根据“The sun is the strongest source of energy”和备选词汇可知,此处指太阳释放能量。
根据“A single panel holds thousands of solar cells...it can produce a large amount of electricity”可知,空格前后是因果关系,前因后果,应用so连接。故填so。
根据“For one thing, it is clean. It does not produce any air pollution.”
根据“Fossil fuels (化石燃料), however, are usually dirty to burn.”
根据“Solar power is...than fossil fuels in some ways.”可知,空格处缺少形容词比较级作表语;结合“Solar power would help...save billions of dollars in these ‘hidden’ costs”和备选词汇可知,使用太阳能可以节省大量隐性成本,所以此处表示太阳能更便宜。
根据“Solar power would help...save billions of dollars in these ‘hidden’ costs”和备选词汇可知,此处表示帮助我们节省隐性成本。 故填us。
根据“solar energy usually costs...as much as power from fossil fuels”可知,此处应用“倍数词+as+形容词原级+as”结构表示“是……的几倍”;结合备选词汇two可知,空格处应填twice“两倍”。故填twice。
69.句意:实际上,只有20%的光能被转化为电能,大部分都被浪费掉了。空格处缺少副词修饰整个句子;结合备选词汇,actual的副词形式actually“实际上”符合语境,用于引出具体数据,表示事实情况,句首单词首字母需大写。故填Actually。
70.句意:这种浪费意味着,如果没有更高效的电池,太阳能可能无法取代化石燃料。根据“more efficient cells, solar power may not be able to replace fossil fuels”可知,前半句是后半句的否定条件,即“若没有更高效的电池,太阳能就无法替代化石燃料”;结合备选词汇,介词without“没有”符合语境。故填without。
Whether yellow, red or white, the onion is a vegetable that you may not know well. The list of its uses in cooking is endless. People have used onions to add flavor (味道) to their foods for thousands of years. Besides onions’ great taste, they are very good for you. They have special chemicals (化学物质) that improve your ability to fight off sickness and you have fewer chances of getting a disease.
No matter how good onions are for you, it is difficult to cut an onion without your eyes filling with tears! When you cut into an onion, irritating (刺激性的) chemicals inside the onion will get into the air. They touch your whole eyes and cause pain. Your eyes make tears to wash away the chemicals and protect your eyes.
Luckily, cooks and scientists have discovered some ways to keep you from crying when you cut up onions:
· Cut the onion under running water. The water will wash away the chemicals before they can reach your eyes.
· Use a fan to blow air over the onion as you cut it. The air will blow the chemicals away from your eyes.
· Put the onion in a fridge for an hour before cutting. This helps make the chemicals in the onion move slowly, so they may not ever reach your eyes.
If you try out these good ideas and still cry while cutting onions, don’t worry. Scientists think if you cut more onions, your body will become more resilient to the onion’s chemicals. So the tears will not last long. If you think about how healthy onions are, you might even call those tears “happy tears”.

New Rules to Protect Food Delivery Riders
Recently, a new national rule for food delivery services has come out in China. It 51 big and good changes to delivery riders’ daily work and makes their jobs much safer.
First, there’s a limit on riders’ working time They can’t keep 52 orders for more than 4 hours straight. Once they hit this time limit, the platforms won’t give orders to them, so they 53 sending delivery for 20 minutes. This short break helps riders avoid feeling too tired during work— so they won’t feel sleepy or weak while they 54 .
Second, their electric bikes have a speed limit. They 55 to ride faster than 15 kilometers per hour. Before this rule, some riders often 56 to deliver food quickly. They even broke traffic rules, which led to many traffic accidents. Since the rule of limiting speed took effect, the speed limit 57 them away from road dangers many times.
Many middle school students who love ordering takeout think this new rule is good news for riders. A few people worry that food deliveries will become slower, and customers 58 longer for their meals. But most people agree that safety is more important than speed.
As students, we 59 this new rule. If our takeout is a little late next time, we can be more patient. After all, the riders’ safety is far more valuable than getting meals a few minutes earlier. This rule not only protects riders but also teaches us 60 about others’ well-being. Safety is always more important than anything in our life.
