Peter left Mrs Li’s classroom feeling like a loser. His teacher wrote a big “F” for “fail” on his English exam paper.
Kate, his friend, noticed him looking sad. “What’s wrong, Peter ” asked Kate.
“I just failed my English exam,” replied Peter. “I made too many spelling mistakes.”
“If I can spell, you can spell, too,” said Kate.
Peter didn’t agree. He came from Mexico. English was not his first language. But Kate was not going to let Peter give up. The next day, she gave Peter a book-The Top 500 Most Often Misspelled Words.

Hagai Otieno is from Mathare, a slum (贫民窟) in Kenya. When he was a child, he was afraid that he couldn’t go to school like his big brothers and sisters. His family was very poor. For the kids in the family, sometimes there was no money for school. Otieno said, “My family often has no money for even food.”
Today, Otieno can wish more. His high school was over last year. He will go to a university in China later this year, thanks to the help of the Chinese government (政府).
