While many California girls love the beach, Chloe Kim has favored snow since childhood. Born in Long
Beach, California in 2000 to South Korean parents, she was introduced to snowboarding at 4. Showing great
athletic talent, she started competing at 6. Though supported by her parents, who advised her to focus on education,
she studied French in Switzerland during third and fourth grades.
Back in California, her dad drove her nearly six hours every weekend to a ski resort for snowboarding training.
The effort paid off: she won gold at the 2015 X Games as the youngest ever, then claimed another gold at the 2018
Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics with a nearly perfect 100 score in the halfpipe (U 型 场 地 ). This win was
particularly meaningful for the young athlete as her extended South Korean family attended to support her.
However, the heavy expectations and competition anxiety took a toll, making her consider quitting. With a
therapist’s help, she recognized her value beyond being an athlete. She then adjusted her training routine, practicing
old moves and only choosing exciting, challenging ones to reignite her initial passion for the sport.
As she prepares for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Chloe acknowledges she could break the
halfpipe record. But she has decided in advance that win or lose, she won’t let stress dominate her or a loss define
her. “True success is being content with where you are and who you are,” she said. “When mentally, physically and
spiritually strong, you can achieve anything. That’s my current state, which is why I feel pretty successful now.”
4. Why was Chloe Kim’s 2018 Winter Olympics gold medal especially meaningful
A. She got a nearly perfect score of 100 in the halfpipe.
B. Part of her South Korean family rooted for her on site.
C. She became the youngest gold medalist in the X Games.
D. It helped her decide to continue snowboarding competition.
5. The underlined phrase “took a toll” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. had a negative effect B. brought great benefits
C. created new opportunities D. attracted public attention
6. What can be inferred about Chloe Kim’s attitude towards the 2026 Winter Olympics
A. She is overly anxious about breaking the record.
B. She cares more about the result than the process.
C. She doubts her ability to compete in the halfpipe.
D. She is mentally prepared to handle different outcomes.
7. What is the main idea of the text

From raw ingredients to slow-cooking broth (高汤), an immersive hotpot theme park reveals heritage, craft
and steaming innovation.
Embarking on an immersive tour at a renowned hotpot industrial theme park in Southwest China’s Chongqing,
known as the nation’s hotpot capital, is a dreamlike yet thrilling experience for food lovers.
A decade ago, the industrial park was known strictly for massive manufacturing of hotpot raw materials and
hotpot seasonings. Today, it has transformed into one of the city’s signature destinations — the first and only
industrial tourism site themed around Chongqing hotpot drawing over 400,000 visitors in its peak year.
Its most recent expansion came in late September, when the Zhoujunji Hotpot Seasoning History and Culture
Museum opened to the public, enriching the experience by showcasing the history and cultural significance of
Chongqing hotpot.
The museum’s ongoing show, the Bashu Traditional Seasoning History and Culture Exhibition, highlights the
rich history of the region’s five key tastes — saltiness, sourness, bitterness, sweetness, and spiciness in Sichuan
province and Chongqing. Another show, the Modern Hotpot Culture Exhibition, offers a fascinating glimpse of the
evolution of hotpot flavors.
Chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, the two most beloved spices in the region, known for their signature
spicy and numbing tastes, take center stage in the exhibition. In the numbing spice section, six out of 10 exhibited
varieties of peppercorns come from Sichuan and Chongqing.
Economic data from the Chongqing Hotpot Association paints a striking picture: by 2024, the city boasted
18,900 hotpot-related enterprises and 39,600 restaurants, generating 82.43 billion yuan in revenue — 32.7% of
Chongqing’s total dining income. The hotpot industrial chain, spanning ingredient farming, seasoning production
and catering services, has exceeded 300 billion yuan in value. What makes this success even more remarkable is
that it bridges industrial production with cultural tourism, turning a local culinary tradition into a national and even
international cultural icon.
8. What was the hotpot industrial theme park mainly used for ten years ago
A. Producing raw materials for Chongqing people.
B. Selling various hotpot seasonings to tourists.
C. Showing the history of Chongqing hotpot culture.
D. Manufacturing hotpot ingredients on a large scale.
9. What is the author’s attitude towards Chongqing’s hotpot industry development
A. Indifferent. B. Objective. C. Neutral. D. Praiseworthy.
10. Which of the following is true about Sichuan peppercorns according to the passage
A. They are famous for their spicy taste only.
B. They are less popular than pepper peppers in the region.
C. Most exhibited types are from Sichuan and Chongqing.
D. All varieties of them are from Sichuan and Chongqing.
11. What is the most likely topic of the next paragraph
A. The efforts made by Chongqing to promote hotpot culture overseas.
B. The challenges faced by Chongqing’s hotpot industry in global competition.
C. The detailed process of making Chongqing hotpot season in the museum.
D. The comparison between Chongqing hotpot and other regional hotpots in China.

In January 2025, an announcement from a little-known Chinese AI startup sent shock waves through the
global tech industry. DeepSeek, founded by former finance investor Liang Wenfeng released its R1 reasoning
model, a system that matched the performance of leading closed-source AI tools (such as OpenAI’s GPT-4) but at a
small portion of the cost. For Nature’s 2025 “Nature’s 10” list, we recognize Liang as a tech disruptor whose work
has written the rules of the global AI race.
Liang, 40, began his career in quantitative finance, where he developed algorithms for stock market prediction.
He turned to AI in 2023, founding DeepSeek to “popularize access to advanced reasoning systems”, after growing
frustrated by the high cost of cutting-edge AI tools. His team, a group of 35 researchers, built R1 with a total
development budget of $6 million — less than 10% of the cost of competitors like Meta’s Llama 3.
The model’s performance was a stunning success. In independent tests, R1 scored 89.2 on the MMLU
reasoning standard (matching GPT-4’s 89.7), and outperformed it on coding tasks. What made the breakthrough
ground-breaking, however, was Liang’s decision to open-source R1’s weights — a first for a system of this level.
Within weeks, the model was downloaded 1.2 million times, with researchers adapting it to fields from drug
discovery to climate modeling.
“DeepSeek’s open model has been a boon for small teams and academics who could never afford to build such
tools themselves ” says Benjamin Lee, a former researcher at Hugging Face. The move also forced Western rivals
to shift strategy: within three months, Google and Anthropic released their own partially open models, accelerating
global AI collaboration.
For Liang, the goal remains simple: “AI should be a tool for everyone, not just the wealthy few.” As Nature’s
2025 “Nature’s 10” profile concludes: “Liang’s work has not just built a better AI model, it has proven that
flexibility, collaboration, and a commitment to openness can outpace even the deepest pockets.”
12 What can we infer from the first paragraph about DeepSeek’s R1 model
A. It has surpassed GPT-4 as the leading AI tool globally.
B. It has altered the competitive pattern of the global AI industry.
C. It was developed with a much higher cost than closed-source AI tools.
D. It was the AI model to be included in Nature’s 2025 “Nature’s 10” list.
13. Why did Liang Wenfeng switch from quantitative finance to AI research
A. He failed to achieve success in the financial field.
B. He wanted to make advanced AI accessible to more people.
C. He was invited by a group of AI researchers to found DeepSeek.
D. He found stock market prediction algorithms less challenging.
14. The underlined word “disruptor” in Paragraph 1 most probably means ______.
A. someone who preserves traditional rules
B. someone who interrupts and changes an industry
C. someone who invests heavily in a new business field
D. someone who supports new technological development
15. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Liang Wenfeng’s experience in quantitative finance helps his AI research.
B. DeepSeek’s R1 model has been widely applied in various scientific fields.
C. Liang Wenfeng’s open-source AI model reshapes the global AI landscape.
D. The development of AI has led to fierce competition among global tech companies.

In today’s highly-connected society, many people feel exhausted despite “resting” after work. Scrolling
through social media or binge-watching shows often leaves us more worn out than before. True rest isn’t passive
downtime, but intentional recovery for body and mind. ____16____
Prioritize quality sleep as the foundation of rest. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-9 hours of
sleep for adults, with consistent bedtimes and wake-up times to regulate your biological cycle. Create a
sleep-friendly environment: keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. ____17____ Their blue light suppresses sleep
hormones. Using your bed only for sleep, not work or scrolling, helps your brain associate it with relaxation.
____18____ The 90-minute rule suggests our bodies naturally cycle between focus and fatigue. Pausing every
hour and a half for 10-15 minutes prevents burnout. Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique: inhale for 4 seconds, hold
for 7, and exhale for 8 to activate your relaxation response. These short breaks don’t require much time but can
greatly improve your focus. A quick walk outdoors, stretching, or even just gazing out the window can refresh your
mind by shifting mental focus.
Disconnect to recharge. Constant digital stimulation overworks your brain. ____19____ Reading a physical
book, listening to soft music, or practicing gentle yoga allows your mind to unwind. For creative rest, try hobbies
like gardening or drawing — activities that spark joy without pressure.
Remember, effective rest isn’t a luxury but a necessity for productivity and well-being. By replacing passive
scrolling with intentional recovery practices, you’ll wake up refreshed, stay focused longer, and build resilience
against stress. ____20____
A. Focus your attention every hour and a half.
B. Practice short, active breaks during the day.
C. Avoid electronic devices an hour before bed.
D. The following tips can help you rest effectively and live happily.
E. Schedule daily “unplugged time” to engage in low-effort activities you enjoy.
F. As experts emphasize, rest is not wasted time — it’s investing in your ability to thrive.
G. Some experts will share science-backed strategies to help you get recharged effectively.

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lena, a seventeen-year-old girl who prided herself on her independence, had trusted her diary as her only true
friend for three years. Night after night. She would pour everything into its pages — the math teacher’s sharp
remarks, the broken relationship with deskmates, a secret love on a boy in her class, the stray dog she sometimes
fed, the leaking roof in her bedroom ceiling, and even the way her mother spoke to her.
The conflict began one evening when her mother opened Lena’s schoolbag without permission. Its contents
— an unfinished love letter, a gift intended for a friend, and a private sketchbook — spilled onto the floor.
“What are you doing ” Lena cried out, her voice shaking with hurt.
“I only wanted to check on you — to keep you safe!” Mom’s voice cracked, her hands unsteady.
“Safe This isn’t about safety. It’s about control!” Lena shouted back, shoving the bag aside. That night, she
locked herself in her room and poured her anger into her diary: This is my privacy! I hate her! I will never forgive
her!
For the next week, Lena refused to speak to her mother. Then, on a rainy afternoon, she returned home and
found her diary missing from under her pillow. Panic set in. Had her mother taken it She rushed into the kitchen,
where her mother stood washing vegetables, her hands trembling slightly.
“Give it back. Now,” Lena demanded, her voice tight.
Her mother slowly dried her hands, avoiding eye contact. “The roof leaked again.” she explained quietly. “I
was cleaning up the mess in your room when I found your notebook lying on the wet floor, almost soaked. I was
just trying to dry it.” She nodded toward the balcony, where the diary lay open under a hairdryer, its pages gently
lifting in the breeze.
Lena’s heart sank. Every private thought — every complaint about her mother, every admission about a
classmate — was now out in the open. She grabbed the diary and fled to her room, tears blurring her vision. But as
she turned the damp pages, she noticed something unusual: beside each of her angriest entries, her mother had
placed a single, small red sticker.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
Curious, Lena turned to the page where she wrote “I hate you!” and found unfamiliar handwriting. There,
beside her angry words, her mother had written, “I’m sorry, my dear. I never meant to make you feel this way. I
love you more than anything, and I was just scared of losing you.” Lena’s eyes welled up with tears as she read on.
On other pages, her mother had left messages like “I understand your frustration” and “I’ll try to be better.” It
dawned on her that her mother was not the enemy she thought. Instead, she was a woman trying her best, grappling
with her own fears and insecurities.
Paragraph 2:
That night, Lena tiptoed into her mother’s room, diary in hand. She sat on the edge of the bed and gently woke
her mother. “Mom,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “I read your notes. I’m sorry, too. I was so
focused on my own feelings that I didn’t see how much you care.” Her mother opened her eyes, and a tear rolled
down her cheek. They hugged tightly, the diary lying between them, a symbol of the misunderstandings that were
now cleared and the love that had always been there. From that day on, Lena knew that true communication was
more powerful than keeping secrets.2025 学年第一学期期末教学质量调测

wonders to natural beauties, these four destinations stand out as must-visit spots for travelers worldwide.
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Angkor Wat is the world’s largest religious monument and a true treasure of ancient architecture. Built for
Hindu gods and later turned into a Buddhist temple, its detailed stone carvings tell stories of ancient myths.
Surrounded by peaceful ponds that reflect its grand silhouette at sunrise, it draws millions of visitors yearly who

great empires, it houses legendary sites like the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, known for their magnificent
domes and colorful mosaics. A sunset sail on the Bosporus Strait shows the city’s unique mix of continents. Don’t

The Temple of Literature is a peaceful tribute to Confucius, built in 1070. With ancient courtyards, old trees,
and stone steles honoring scholars, it feels like a step back in time. Nearby, the Old Quarter’s coffee streets invite
