Della and Jim are a young, poor couple who love each other very much. For Christmas, Della wants to buy Jim a perfect gift. But she has very little money. Her most valuable thing is her long, beautiful hair. She cuts and sells it to buy a gold chain for Jim’s prized pocket watch. That evening, Jim comes home with his gift for her. He stares at her short hair. He gives her his present: a set of expensive combs for her long hair. Della then gives Jim the watch chain.
