HOT TICKETS
Most people think global events such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup are the most exciting, but
there is some serious competition. Here’s a look at some of the hottest tickets in sports.
The World Series
The World Series is the final championship of the American baseball leagues. Baseball is one of America’s
favourite sports and has many traditions, such as the “seventh-inning stretch (七局伸展操)”, where the song “Take
Me Out to the Ball Game” is played so that everyone can get up after sitting for a long time. The break is also a
good time for a snack. Hot peanuts are a hit with hungry baseball fans, but the hot dog is the real winner!
Indian Premier League
Cricket is from England but has become as saris and curry. The Indian Premier League has the largest
audience of all cricket leagues in the world and is the sixth most-watched sports league in the world. Cricket is a
unique sport and may seem a little confusing at first, but once you start learning the rules, you’ll love it. The most
popular cricket snacks are finger foods like biscuits and cucumber sandwiches.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon is a treat for all tennis fans. The tournament started in 1877 and many of the rules are the same
today. For example, the players may only wear white clothes. The event, however, is quite colourful since fans
often dress up for the games and wear amazing hats. And when it comes to snacks, it’s “game, set, and match” at
Wimbledon. Where else can you enjoy champagne and strawberries as you cheer for the champion
1. What is the purpose of the “seventh-inning stretch” during The World Series
A. To announce the score to audience.
B. To allow fans to have a rest.
第 3页/共 22页
C. To allow players to change their equipment.
D. To encourage audience to buy more snacks.
2. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a feature of Wimbledon

Zootopia 2, the long-awaited sequel to Disney’s 2016 animated hit, has not only taken China’s box office by
storm, but also sparked (触发) widespread discussions about friendship, trust, and social harmony. Released on
November 26, 2025, the film has earned 272 million in five days and an 8.7 rating on Douban. Its success lies in a
combination of heartwarming storytelling and cultural localization.
The story focuses on Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Their latest case involves a snake named Gary, who
initially appears to be a troublemaker — hiding items, causing minor chaos, and disturbing the city’s residents.
However, as Judy and Nick investigate, they find a deeper truth: Gary’s actions originate (起源) from loneliness
and a desire to draw attention to endangered smaller animals.
Unlike the first film’s focus on external conflicts, Zootopia 2 explores the problems of long-term cooperation.
Judy and Nick used to work well together, but now have arguments when things get tough. Gary’s case becomes a
key factor for growth: instead of punishing him, Judy and Nick help him present evidence to the mayor, leading to
real reforms. Their journey highlights (突出) the film’s core message: true partnership requires empathy,
adaptability, and the courage to face weaknesses.
The film is also good at cultural connection. Disney strategically released Gary, a snake, during the Chinese
Year of the Snake and incorporated (合并) local elements like paper-cutting art and a theme song by Taiwan rock
band Mayday. These choices, combined with related themes of overcoming prejudice and embracing diversity,
have made Zootopia 2 a symbol of cross-cultural understanding.
4. What is the main reason for the success of Zootopia 2 in China
A. Its famous director and international brand.
B. Its low production cost and short filming time.
C. Its focus on social themes and historical events.
D. Its touching story and local cultural adaptation.
5. Which of the following can best describe Gary
A. Brave and strict. B. Lonely and caring.
C. Funny and outgoing. D. Shy and mean.
6. What is the focus of Zootopia 2 compared to the first film
A. The challenges of long-term teamwork.
B. The technological innovation in animation.
C. External conflicts between different species.
D. The box office performance in China.
7. What can be the best title for the passage
A. Zootopia 2: The Main Reasons for Reform
B. Zootopia 2: An Exciting Animal Adventure
C. Zootopia 2: The Key Factors for Success
D. Zootopia 2: A Record-Breaking Box Office Hit
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. A 7. C

Bollworms (棉铃虫) are a traditional threat to cotton crops. Young ones feed on the boll, the part of the cotton
plant that contains the seeds.
A bacterium (细菌) known as Bt is able to kill bollworms and some other pests. Bt is the short form for
Bacillus thuringiensis. It was discovered in the early twentieth century. Farmers began using Bt as a natural
pesticide (杀虫剂).
Then, in the 1990s, researchers found a way to grow cotton plants that contain a Bt gene (基因). The
genetically improved cotton plant produces liquid that kills bollworms. Farmers around the world are now growing
an estimated fourteen million hectares of Bt cotton.
Cotton bollworms also attack other crops. But scientists in China recently reported that Bt cotton may help
prevent bollworms in other crops growing nearby. The study involved crops grown in three provinces of northern
China between 2000 and 2006.
The researchers say the study suggested that Bt cotton not only controls bollworm on the transgenic cotton,
but also may reduce its existence on other crops. And that reduction, they say, may decrease the need for
insecticide use in general.
But the researchers also point out concerns. They say bollworms could develop resistance (抵制) to the cotton
plants designed to resist them. The study involved crops grown in six provinces of northern China between 1992
and 2008. The study area contained three million hectares of cotton.
The researchers say they do not believe that Bt cotton alone can solve all insect problems. Instead, they say
farmers in China should consider it just one part of pest management systems.
8. In farmers’ eyes, what is the primary role of Bt
A. A method to study genes. B. A natural pesticide to control pests.
C. A way to feed young bollworms. D. A tool to improve the quality of plant seeds.
9. According to the passage, what is a potential benefit of Bt cotton mentioned in the study
A. It prevents all types of insect pests.
B. It may increase the growth rate of plants.
C. It completely removes the need for pesticides.
D. It may reduce bollworm populations in nearby crops.
10. What is a concern raised by the researchers about Bt cotton
A. It leads to more insecticide use. B. It is not effective in all regions of China.
C. It might not work on bollworms anymore. D. It is expensive for cotton farmers to grow.
11. What is the researchers’ recommendation for farmers about Bt cotton
A. To rely alone on Bt cotton for pest control.
B. To avoid using Bt cotton due to its potential risks.
C. To replace Bt cotton with traditional natural pesticides.
D. To use Bt cotton alongside other pest control methods.
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. D

Trees could be more important to the earth’s climate than previously thought, according to a new study that
reveals forests help to block out the sun.
Scientists in the UK and Germany have discovered that trees release a chemical that thickens clouds above
them, which reflects more sunlight and cools the earth. The research suggests that chopping down forests could
speed up global warming, and that protecting existing trees could be one of the best ways to deal with the problem.
The scientists looked at chemicals called terpenes that are released from northern forests across northern
regions such as Canada, Scandinavia and Russia. The chemicals give forests a special smell, but their function has
puzzled experts for years. Some believe the trees produce them to communicate, while others say they could offer
protection from air pollution.
The team found the terpenes react in the air and form aerosols (气雾剂). They help to turn water vapor (蒸汽)
in the atmosphere into clouds.
Spracklen said the team’s computer models showed that the aerosols doubled the thickness of clouds about
1,000 meters above the forests and would reflect an extra 5% sunlight back into space. He said, “It might not sound
a lot, but that is quite a strong cooling effect.”
Because trees release more terpenes in warmer weather, the discovery suggests that forests could act as a
negative feedback on climate, which slows the rise in temperature. The team looked at forests of mainly pine and
spruce trees, but Spracklen said other trees also produce terpenes so the cooling effect should be found in other
regions, including tropical rainforests.
12. What is the finding of the new study about trees
A. Trees absorb more carbon dioxide than previously believed.
B. Trees communicate with each other through chemical signals.
C. Trees protect themselves from air pollution by releasing terpenes.
D. Trees produce chemicals that thicken clouds and cool the Earth.
13. According to the team, what role do terpenes play in the atmosphere
A. They react to form aerosols that help create clouds.
B. They increase the temperature of the earth’s surface.
C. They prevent sunlight from reaching the ground.
D. They protect the earth from harmful greenhouse gases.
14. The underlined phrase “negative feedback” in Paragraph 6 most likely means ________.
A. a process that causes extreme weather events
B. a process that provides forests with a special smell
C. a process that reduces the pace of temperature rise
D. a process that speeds up greenhouse effect around the world
15. What can be inferred about the cooling effect of forests
A. It has been widely known to scientists for decades.
B. It applies to many types of trees, not just pine and spruce.
C. It is more effective in tropical rainforests than in northern forests.
D. It is limited to northern regions like Canada, Scandinavia and Russia.

Farmers use different kinds of soil conservation methods to protect their land from damage by farming and the
forces of nature. ___16___
Windbreaks (防风林) are barriers formed by trees and other plants Farmers plant these barriers around their
fields. ___17___ They also keep the wind from destroying or damaging crops. They are very important for
protecting grain crops.
___18___ Studies in parts of West Africa, for example, found that grain harvests can be twenty percent higher
in fields protected by windbreaks compared to fields without such protection. ___19___ If the wall of trees and
plants blocks the wind completely, then violent air motions will take place close to the ground. These motions will
lift soil into the air where it will be blown away.
For this reason, a windbreak is best if it has only sixty to eighty percent of the trees and plants needed to make
a solid line. An easy rule to remember is that a windbreak can protect an area up to ten times the height of the
tallest trees in the windbreak. ___20___ Start with large trees. Follow with, right next to it, shorter trees and other
plants with leaves. Locally grown trees and plants are best for windbreaks.
A. There have been studies done on windbreaks.
B. There should be at least two lines in each windbreak.
C. Good soil produces good crops for both humans and animals.
D. They protect the soil from being blown away by the wind.
E. One important form of soil conservation is the use of windbreaks.
F. Therefore, it is of great importance for the farmers to build windbreaks.
G. However, it is favorable for windbreaks to allow a little wind to pass through them.

Aunt Evie had a dollhouse. It had many toys there. Every Friday afternoon, I went to Aunt Evie’s home with
my parents. The adults would sit around a table in the dining room, eating pie and talking, while I played in the
dollhouse for hours.
Sometimes I would pick up these lovely toys and place them in different positions. It was really fun. One time
I asked Aunt Evie where she got the toys so that I could buy some, too. To my disappointment, Aunt Evie said that
most of them were specially handmade gifts from her friends and couldn’t be bought anywhere. One such toy was a
little bear, which was my favorite. It was so beautiful that I wanted to own it badly. “If I take it, Aunt Evie may not
notice it. ” I said to myself.
Therefore, on a Friday afternoon, I attempted to take the little bear away from Aunt Evie’s dollhouse. I had to
wait until nobody was watching me, ‘and it took me hours to get the courage to put the little bear in my pocket.
Once I got the little bear, I couldn’t wait to go home. I had to hide it somewhere at home, so that no one would
know I took it. That night after I went home with my parents, I couldn’t go to sleep. “What a bad person I am! I
stole something from my loved Aunt Evie.” I thought. When I woke up the next morning, I felt awful, but I couldn’
t tell my parents, let alone return the little bear to Aunt Evie. I was embarrassed about my behavior. At some point,
I started to hate the little bear and myself. And I knew if I didn’t do something, I wouldn’t get away from those bad
feelings.

【答案】Paragraph I:
So I decided to tell my mom what I had done. After I told her all the story, I couldn’t hold back my tears. “I can’t
live with myself and what I’ve done, ” I said. My mom shook her head in disappointment. “There’s only one way
to make this right. You have to return the little bear and apologize to Aunt Evie, ” she said. Seized with fright, I
stood frozen to the spot, thinking Aunt Evie would hate me. Eventually, with my mom’s encouragement, I got up
the courage to head for Aunt Evie’s home.
Paragraph 2:
My hand was shaking when I rang the doorbell of Aunt Evie’s house. She unlocked the door, smiled and looked as
if she already knew everything. I presented her with the little bear and made my apologies. “I admire your courage
to return the bear. I would like to give it to you as a gift for your honesty. You’re always my favorite niece. ”Aunt
Evie said. On hearing that, I felt a wave of relief. Mom’s words rang in my ears, “Honesty is the best policy!”
