He is happy that he has less homework than before and he can finish it at school with no need to take it home.“I’m also happy to find there are fewer exams. Besides, teachers now teach at a much slower pace so that we have enough time to understand what we have learned. We don’t need to buy workbooks anymore and the exercises are mainly from the textbook,”Shen Yuzhe said.
③“The best thing about the‘Double Reduction’is the increased time in after-school activities such as dancing, volleyball and drama.”Zhang Hangming from Tianjin is also excited. For example, they went to research plants in a field during a science class. He believes that is a much better way to learn than just studying the books.
④Some people welcome the policy while others are still worried. Yu Zhiyue,a middle school student in Jiangsu, still feels tired.“With the‘Double Reduction’,I have really got less homework to do. But my mother is worried that I will lose the chance to review what I’ve learned in class without enough homework. So I have lots of after-school classes. Since I can only take these classes on weekdays now, weekdays have become especially long and tiring for me. Why do some people seem to be naturally happier than others?Researchers from the University of Edinburgh have known the answer according to their recent study. 41 Researchers watched them and measured(测量)their happiness levels.
The result shows that our genes(基因)control half of the personalities that make us happy.
42 That is to say, personal differences in happiness are based on genetic differences between people.
“All human beings naturally expect happiness. We have found that happiness is partly from genes,”said Dr. Alexander Weiss, the leader of the research.“ 43 It is a milestone because we are now sure that there is a genetic side of happiness and it is a new beginning because the happy genes have just been found.”
However, the researchers warn that genes are not the whole story. The environment can also influence our happiness levels. 44 So finding the right things that influence us is the right thing.
To become truly happy,we need to perfectly understand our important needs. 45
Besides, doing simple things, such as keeping a journal and writing down three things that we are thankful for every day,can increase our long-term happiness. Will you try it tonight?
A.Nine hundred twins took part in it. B.This study is both a milestone and a new beginning. C.That is why people become happy for different reasons. D.Unhappiness might happen if we fail to satisfy our needs. E.And the other half has to do with lifestyle, career and relationships. Sugar-coated haws(山楂),which are called Tanghulu in Chinese, are one of the most popular traditional snacks in the north of China, especially in Beijing. It’s said that Tanghulu can date back to the Song Dynasty. When winter comes, snack sellers can be seen selling Tanghulu on almost every street of Beijing.
How does the snack get its name?In fact, there is no relationship between Tanghulu and gourds(葫芦). It’s because the haws are strung(串)in a line on a bamboo stick and the shape looks just like the gourd. That’s the reason why people call it Tanghulu.
Tanghulu is famous for its sour and sweet taste and it is easy to make. The food materials are just sugar and haws. First, heat sugar in a pot till it becomes syrup(糖浆). Clean some haws and string them on the sticks. Then, dip the haws into the hot sugar syrup and make sure they are completely covered. Tanghulu is done after the syrup becomes dry and hard. If you want to get Tanghulu ready quickly, putting it into the fridge is a good choice.
On TikTok,a short video of making Tanghulu has caught many foreigners’ attention. It has been viewed nearly 2.2 million times. After mastering the making skills, some foreign fans have created new kinds of Tanghulu. They even use vegetables, meat and other fruits instead of haws! Now,you can see this kind of snack is not only loved by Chinese people but also becomes a favorite of foreigners.
