教学过程
Part 1 Modals(2) Lead-in: Understand the following sentences and make inference about the words in bold. 1. Mary didn’t come to school yesterday. She may be ill. 2.This classroom must be bright at night because there are so many electric bulbs. 3.Jack can’t finish his homework for he has been busy helping to look after his little brother. 设计意图:培养学生的学习能力,在观察和比较中完成学习任务,预测学习重点。 Activity 1: Look at the sentences from the reading passage and answer the questions. a. That is why letters from Father Christmas could be the perfect book... b. The children must have been very excited as they opened it. c. ...they might not receive their presents if they were not good. 1. What do the words in bold indicate: an order, a request, ability or possibility 2. Will the meaning of sentence (a) change if we replace "could" with "must" or "might" 3. What happens if we change "must" and "might" in sentences(b) and (c) into "could" Then introduce the modals words “must, may, might, can, could” and their basic usages with examples. 设计意图:了解情态动词表推测的基本用法,比较could,must,might表推测时的使用语境。 Activity 2: Rewrite the underlined sentences in the conversation using can/could, may/might and must.
(At a fancy dress party.) Chris: I spent ages putting up all the balloons and flowers last night. Jean: I expect you are feeling tired now! Chris: Yes, I am. Look, that guy is dressed as Batman. Is that Mike Jean: It’s possibly him. Check out that girl over there. I’m sure that’s Lucy. Chris: No, I don’t think that’s Lucy. Lucy isn’t that tall. Jean: Look at those two guys dressed as chickens! Oh, they’re waving at us! Maybe they’re from our school. Chris: Let’s go and find out. Possible sentences: You must be tired now! It may/might/could be him. That must be Lucy. that can’t be Lucy. They may / might / could be from our school. 设计意图:在具体语境中培养学生的实践能力,从语气角度了解情态动词表推测的变化。 Activity 3: Look at the picture and make as many sentences as possible using can / could, may / might and must. Example: The woman in red must be very excited. Some sentences like these. The man with a wallet in his hand might be a bit reluctant(不情愿的) to pay. The woman with glasses may be tired to get up so early. The cashier might be feeling uncomfortable as he is sweating a lot. ... Part2 Lantern Festival celebrations Activity 4:Underline the words and expressions about celebrations during the Lantern Festival in the speech bubbles and complete the mind map. Activity 5:Describe a festival celebration using the words and expressions you have learned. To celebrate..., we often drink/eat..., give ...as gifts, decorate with...possible version: Possible version : To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Day, we usually have a few days off. It is a great occasion for a family to get together. During the festival, we often drink some wine. Besides, there is a kind of traditional Chinese food—moon cakes. The whole family usually admire the moon as they eat moon cakes. People often visit their friends and relatives with some delicious moon cakes and some fresh fruits. This festival is one of the most important festivals in China, which is held to celebrate the harvest, so no matter how busy they are, people usually have a thorough cleaning and decorate their house with some beautiful pictures about moon and so on. 设计意图:阅读细节的查找能力和语言输出能力,通过四个人物的描述,让学生描述熟悉的节日和相关的节日活动。 Part3 A festival invitation Listen to the conversation and complete the sentences with the correct ending.
