课题 CLIMBING QOMOLANGMA:WORTH THE RISKS
教学目标
1.To enable students to know the risks of climbing Qomolangma and the reasons for it; 2.To enable students to draw a mind map of the passage and retell the passage according to it; 3.To enable students to apply what’s been learnt to expressing their own thoughts; 4. To enable students to master skills to conquer the Qomolangma in their life.
教学重点: 1.To enable students to draw a mind map of the passage and retell the passage according to it; 2.To enable students to master the details of the passage and apply what’s been learnt to expressing their thoughts. 教学难点: 1.To enable students to apply what’s been learnt to expressing their thoughts ; 2.To cultivate students’ critical thinking.
教学过程
Step1. Pre-reading Task 1 Look at the map and answer the questions. 1.How high is Qomolangma 2.How many camps are there along the route 3.Why are the camps needed Task 2 Look at the title and guess what type the article is A.Narration (记叙文) B. Argumentation(议论文) C. Exposition(说明文) 设计意图:通过让学生观看与本文相关的图片,通过问答引出话题,激发学生探究的好奇心和学习的兴趣,并且让学生根据标题猜测文本类型,为引导学生阅读做了铺垫。 Step2. While-reading Task 1 Read para.1 and answer. 1.What are the risks of climbing Qomolangma ____________________________________________________________________________ 2.Why are many people willing to take the risks 设计意图:通过阅读第一段让学生了解爬珠峰遇到的风险,(完成第一个目标),然后引出本段大意,尽管有这么多风险,很多人依然去挑战自己,爬珠峰是因为这是一个独特的体验,并且引出二三段的阅读。 Task 2 Read para.2-3 and fill in the blanks. ·Name: George Mallory ·Reasons: What we get from this adventure is just ___________.People eat and make money to be able to _________________ . ·Results: Sadly, Mallory would _______________________________although his body ________________________ until many years later. ·Name: Alan Arnette ·Reasons: Each person has a(n) _____________________reason for climbing a mountain. Are the benefits of climbing Qomolagma worth the risks 设计意图:通过阅读第七段,得出作者是客观的看待爬珠峰这件事情,因人而异,培养学生的批判性思维。 Task 5 Choose the author’s purpose in writing the passage. 1. To encourage people to climb Qomolangma if fully prepared, as risks bring many benefits. 2. To remind people to balance the benefits and risks before deciding to climb Qomolangma. 3. To suggest that people stop taking risks and climbing Qomolangma, as the risks outweigh the benefits. 设计意图:让学生从整体上理解文章,更深层次的理解作者的意图。 Step3. Post-reading Task 1 Draw a mind map of the passage. 设计意图:通过让学生填写思维导图,可以让学生从整体上更好的把握本文的结构,也让学生熟悉议论文体的结构。 Task2 Retell the passage according to key information in the mind map. 设计意图:通过让学生复述课文,来检测学生对整篇文章的理解与掌握,完成第二个教学目标。 Task 3 Think and share If you were given the chance, would you like to climb Qomolangma Why or why not ·Useful expressions: In my opinion/Personally speaking/ From my point of view, I’d (not) like to..., because..., on one hand...,on the other hand... sheer joy, enjoy life look deep inside yourself have a deep thought on life... to become a famous/ unique person to achieve success/ get development build up self-confidence enjoy the beautiful scenery …… crowds,discomfort,danger, extreme cold, low air pressure become sick, lose their life cost a lot of money take great risks lose their life family will worry them ……
设计意图:让学生运用所学的表达写小短文表达自己的观点。完成知识的运用与迁移,完成第三个学习目标。 Task 3 Watch a short video about Xia Boyu. Xia Boyu, a 69-year-old man, lost his feet when climbing Qomolangma in 1975. However, he still tried four times and eventually succeeded in climbing to the summit in 2018! Thinking: 1.What is the spirit of climbing Qomolangma What should we do when we come across a “Qomolangma” in our life 设计意图:总结探险者的精神,迁移到我们的生活中总会遇到一些“珠穆朗玛”,我们应该学会勇敢的克服这些困难,学以致用,培养学生坚韧、永不放弃的品质,完成第四个教学目标。 Step4. Assignment Search online for more climbers’ experiences of climbing Qomolangma as well as the reasons for risk-taking. 设计意图:培养学生的自学能力。
