教学目标
By the end of the class, students should: get the main idea and the author’s attitude; understand the details. understand the structure and the internal logic of the article, learn about the features of argumentative writing and form a right attitude towards making friends online. apply what they learn in this lesson to express their ideas. connect the text with their real life; use the topic-related language to analyse and solve problems about making friends online to improve their critical thinking, creative thinking and comprehensive language use ability.
教学重点: Guide students to understand the text, the main idea and the deep meaning. Lead students to get the structures and the internal logic of the passage. Help them to form a right attitude towards clicking for a friend. 教学难点: Guide students to understand the structure, sort out the important information in the article. Help students to recognize and evaluate making friends online dialectically
教学过程
Step 1. Pre-reding Lead-in Show students some pictures of popular social apps and guide them to think about the question: Do you think online friends can become your real friends Why Purpose: to connect students real life with the topic and help students to be familiar with the topic. Predict the text. Let students observe the details of the picture, express what they see and predict what the passage will talk about. Ask them the meaning of the title and predict the content of the passage. Purpose: to lead students to focus on the information given by the title and the picture, predict the passage by the title and the picture. Step 2.While reading Read for main idea. Activity 1. Read the passage and choose the main idea. What’s the passage mainly about A. The fact that making friends was easier nowadays. B. How it is better to make friends online. C. Traditional ways of making friends. D. The advantages and disadvantages of making friends online. Purpose: to establish overall understanding. Activity 2. Match the main idea of each part Para.1-3 We should take a right attitude to online friendships. Para. 4-7 Technology makes the ways of making friends and communicating with them change significantly. Para. 8 Are online friends your real friends Purpose: to get the clear overall structure Read for the details. Part 1 Activity 1. Read part 1 and complete the diagram. (Purpose: to get the specific information and sort out the logical relationship.) Activity 2. DIY the structure of part1. Purpose: to establish the mind-map of part1 Activity 3. Explore the functions of the questions used to start the passage . Why does the author use two questions to start the passage A. To arouse readers’ attention and thinking To give information and introduce the topic To constitute suspense Purpose: to lead students to attach importance to the roles questions play and to improve students’ ability of analyzing and inferring. Activity 4. Analyse the long sentence. What does “they” refer to in the sentence “Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world.” Purpose: to better understand the details and the deep meaning of the whole paragraph. Part 2. Activity 1. Read part2 and complete the diagram Purpose: to get the specific information and sort out the logic of this part. Activity 2. Interpret the saying“on the Internet, no one knows you are a dog.” (-on the Internet, no one knows who you are.) Supporting details 1. A young person could be ________ ; 2. Purpose: to establish the structure of part1 and better understand it. Part 3. Activity1. Read part3 and discuss the question: What is the author's attitude towards making friends online why Purpose: to guide students to infer the author’s opinion from the author’s expression. Activity 2. DIY the structure of part3. Purpose: to establish the structure of part 3 and pay attention to the internal relationships. III.Summary Activity 1. Summarize the functions of the questions. 1. Post- reading Discussion and presentation Work in groups .Discuss the question: what do you think of making friends online Talk with your group members and share your opinions with other groups. Nowadays, I have a lot of friends online. l constantly check in with social media tools to see whether someone likes my photo or shares my blog. I stay in touch with many friends every day. However, the problem occurs when I talk with my friends face to face. I am so addicted to showing my positive aspects that the topics we can talk become less and less. There are a number of friends waiting for me on the Internet, but I always feel lonely and depressed. Sometimes, I even feel I have no close friends. What should l do I sincerely need your advice. Purpose: to promote students’ ability of analyzing and solving problems and to train their creative thinking ability.
