A
What do birds use to build nests (巢) Your answer may be sticks, leaves or other natural things. But have you ever heard that coots, a type of waterbird in Netherlands, also use plastic waste left by humans to build their nests
Coots love adding plastic bags, snack packages and even milk boxes to their nests. Many of these plastics have dates printed on them. So here comes an interesting guessing: If the packaging date on the plastics says 2021, the nest must have been built after 2021! In this way, we could find out how old the nest is!
Among all the discovered coot nests, the coolest one was the Rokin Nest. It is an old nest with many layers (层). Plastics from 2020 were found in the outer layer, while the deepest layer hid a 1994 World Cup sugar can! Traditionally, birds don’t reuse their nests. But the Rokin Nest may have been passed down by at least three generations (代) as these birds only live about 5 to 10 years!
Are plastics good or bad for birds Long-lasting plastics can keep bird nests strong without much fixing, which saves birds’ energy and gives them more time to find food and raise young birds. However, plastics can also be dangerous. Birds sometimes may get caught up by plastic ropes, and old plastic may carry germs (细菌) that make birds sick.
Maybe the birds don’t want to use plastics to build nests, but there’s so much plastic waste around. Probably they have no choice.
26.What is special about the coot nests
A.The shape. B.The material. C.The place. D.The size.
27.How could people know the age of the cool nests
A.By watching birds build their nests. B.By counting the amount of rubbish.
C.By recording the habits of the coot. D.By checking the date on the plastic.
28.Which of the following may the writer agree
A.Humans shouldn’t use plastic products in nature.
B.The birds prefer to build nests with plastic waste.
C.Human behavior is connected to the lives of birds.
D.The birds could find no better things to build nests.

In 1674, I was born on my father’s small farm in Nottinghamshire, England. I was the third of five sons. My childhood was very happy. I liked going to school and learning new things. ▲
One day, Father asked, “Lemuel, have you thought about your future I think you would be a good doctor.”
I wanted to please him, so I said, “Yes, Father. I’ll go to Cambridge University and study medicine.” But as I spoke, I was thinking, “At university, I can also learn things that will be useful to a sailor.”
After several years of study, I became a doctor. Not long after, I asked my sweetheart, Mary, to marry me. Before long, we had children, a boy and a girl. They gave us great joy. I enjoyed being a doctor for the first few years. But then I became bored, and ideas of travel filled my mind. I imagined going to far-off places and seeing wonderful new things.
“Mary,” I said one day, “I need more adventures in my life. The captain of a ship about to sail has offered me a job as the ship’s doctor. I don’t know how long the journey will take, but I promise I will return. And when I do, I’ll tell you and the children all about my adventures.”
So in 1699, I set sail on the Antelope from Bristol. That city is a large and very old port in the southwest of England. The captain was a good man and had sailed a great deal!
“Welcome aboard. Doctor Gulliver,” he said, “First we’ll be sailing down the Atlantic Ocean and around the coast of Africa. Then we’ll sail through the Indian Ocean to the South Seas.” Our journey went well until one morning, somewhere near Tasmania in the South Pacific Ocean.
“I don’t like the look of those clouds,” the captain said, “I think a storm is coming.”
Within an hour, a big storm began. The sea rose in great, angry waves much taller than the Antelope. The wind, now as strong as a hurricane, made a terrible sound.
“The wind is blowing the ship off course!” shouted the captain. “Look out!”
Suddenly, with a loud crack, the Antelope hit some rocks and broke in half. The sailors fell into the sea. Many of them could not swim. The ship sank quickly, and I suppose everyone but me drowned.

When feeling sad, many people eat snacks like ice cream, chips, or candy to feel better. However, a new study suggests that the foods we eat to feel better may have the opposite effect.
Researchers at Harvard and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston followed 31,000 women for 14 years to study the effects on mood of ultra-processed (超加工) foods such as sugary snacks, chips, or diet drinks. The women who ate lots of high ultra-processed foods had higher risks of depression (抑郁).
The exact cause is unclear, but the researchers think artificial sweeteners (人工甜味剂) in these foods might affect brain cell (细胞) communication, which could cause depression.
Instead of reaching for unhealthy snacks, try healthier choices like nuts or carrots. The act of chewing (咀嚼) might help calm you. Better yet, you could find an enjoyable activity to lift your spirits. You could listen to lively music or watch a funny video. But the best choice is just to get active. Walking, yoga, or strength training are helpful ways to fight depression.
It’s easier to reach for an ultra-processed snack when you’re feeling down, but that might leave you feeling worse. Choosing physical activity instead can make you feel much better!
33.What is the main finding of the Harvard study mentioned in the text
A.Eating snacks helps us feel better.
B.Ultra-processed foods raise depression risks.
C.Women are more likely to eat sugary snacks.
D.Chewing nuts can improve brain function.

C.The taste of food. D.Brain cell communication.

根据“What do birds use to build nests Your answer may be sticks, leaves or other natural things. But have you ever heard that coots, a type of waterbird in Netherlands, also use plastic waste left by humans to build their nests ”可知,鸟通常用树枝、树叶等自然物筑巢,但荷兰的黑鸭会用人类留下的塑料垃圾筑巢,这是黑鸭筑巢的特别之处,也就是筑巢材料特殊。故选B。

根据首字母及“so far is almost 2,200 years old”可知是描述考古发现,find“发现”的过去分词形式,故填(f)ound。

52. How great/wonderful/good to live
How;great/wonderful/good;to;live。
53. was found
54. took part in
“take”的过去式是“took”,故填took;part;in。

来说是有趣的”,分析句子结构应是“It is adj for sb to do sth”结构,“有趣的”interesting,故填It;is;interesting;for。
