One day, a young man was walking in the desert. The sun was shining brightly overhead, making the sand beneath his feet extremely hot. He had been walking for a long time and felt very thirsty. His throat was dry, and his body was begging for water.
Just then, as he was struggling to move forward, he suddenly found a spring of delicious and clear water. The water was welling out from the ground, forming a small pool and looking so inviting. It was so cool and sweet for a man who had expected it for such a long time that he quickly bent down and drank a lot in one go. The refreshing water seemed to bring him back to life. After quenching his thirst (解渴), he thought of his village and his kind teacher who had taught him in middle school. He decided to share this wonderful discovery with his teacher. So he took out his old leather (皮制的) bottle and filled it with the clear water carefully, imagining how happy his teacher would be when receiving this special gift.
After a four-day journey in the hot sun and through the endless sand dunes, he finally arrived at his village. He rushed to his teacher’s house and gave the water to the old man. The old man, with a warm smile, took a deep drink. He then smiled even more warmly and thanked his student sincerely for the sweet water. The young man, seeing his teacher’s happy expression, returned to his home with a light and happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. The student took a drink and spat it out at once, saying it was terrible. In fact, it had gone bad because of the old leather bottle which had influenced the taste of the water. The student was confused and asked his teacher, “Master, the water was bad and it was bitter. Why did you lie to him that you liked it ”
The teacher replied with a kind look in his eyes, “You only tasted the water while I tasted the gift. The water was full of love and kindness from my dear student. In my heart, nothing could be sweeter than this.”
This simple story shows us that sometimes, the value of a gift doesn’t lie in its physical quality but in the love and kindness it contains.

① Why is your dog so interested in your dirty socks, even to the point of stealing and chewing (咀嚼) on them PetHonesty, a company for dog health, may give you a better understanding of why your four-legged friend can’t help but give in to those dirty socks.
② One of the main reasons is the familiar smell of their owners, which is comforting. In fact, PetHonesty says that to your dog, your dirty, smelly sock is like “a bottle filled with his favorite smell—you!” Dogs may chew on things that smell like their owners as a “comforting” way, especially if they are experiencing boredom or worries about separation.
③ In addition, chewing on socks is a natural behavior for dogs. The texture (质地) of socks can be comforting to chew on, especially for baby dogs who are teething. As PetHonesty explains, “To a dog, socks are soft. They are chewy and the texture of the socks feels comforting in their mouths.” This chewing excites their brains and helps keep their teeth healthy.
④ Finally, dogs may see socks as valuable “resources (资源)” worth protecting or guarding. PetHonesty said that dogs see certain things as important “resources” that they believe are worth guarding with all their power. This could be especially true if the sock smells like their owner.
⑤ However, chewing socks can be harmful to dogs as they might eat them and become sick. To prevent it from happening, it’s important to make sure they get enough exercise and care. Dog owners should pay attention to dogs’ needs to help deal with this worrisome situation.
27.How does the writer lead in the topic
A.By telling a story. B.By asking a question.
C.By giving an example. D.By describing a picture.
28.Which of Tom’s socks will his dog like chewing most
A.B. C. D.
29.What can dog owners do to stop dogs from chewing socks
A.Put the socks out of their reach. B.Give them more socks to chew on.
C.Let them play outside all day long. D.Get them enough exercise and care.

A. B. C. D.

How to Make Friends
Making friends is a skill. Like most skills, it improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some actions. 31 You won’t make friends staying at home alone.
Join a club or a group. Talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier. And it’s easier to keep up a conversation if you have something in common.
Many people are nervous when talking to new people. 32 And it’s human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown. But don’t forget that most people are friendly to you. Most of them are just as nervous as you are.
Try to act as if you’re self-confident even if you don’t feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile.
33 If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t wait for the other person to start a conversation.
Just meeting someone new doesn’t mean that you’ll make friends with that person. Friendship is based on mutual (相互的) likings and “give and take”. 34
A.Be the first to start a conversation. B.It takes time and effort to develop. C. You must first go where there are people. D.Keep away from those who behave badly. E. After all, meeting strangers means facing the unknown.
Are you good at making friends What will you do to make friends

Ads are almost everywhere in our lives—on smartphone apps, TVs, and big screens in shopping malls. But before there was mass media (大众媒体), 66 did the ancient Chinese make ads for their goods
The purpose of advertising, after all, is to attract people’s attention and improve the 67 (develop) of business. This was also true in ancient times. In addition, some sellers considered 71 (ask) famous people for help. Strategies of the Warring States (《战国策》) mentions the story of a horse seller. At first, he brought horses that belonged to him to the market and shouted to the crowd about the good quality of his horses. 72 he shouted loudly, nobody was interested. He tried many ways, but nothing worked. He became 73 (hope). Later, the man came up with a good idea. He went to Bo Le, a famous local horse expert, and said to him politely, “Could you visit my stall (摊位) and look at my horses I’ll pay you 74 it.” Bo Le agreed. He showed up at the seller’s stall and expressed his “interest” in the horses. Other people in the market 75 (sudden) gathered around. Soon, every horse in the stall had a buyer. How effective this way of advertising was!
