On May 6, 2025, a 28-year-old Chinese snooker player named Zhao Xintong made sports history. He beat Welsh Star Mark Williams 18-12 in the World Snooker Championship final. This was China’s first world champion in snooker ever! Before this, British players had won for 98 years, but now that long record was broken.
Zhao’s path to success was full of stories. In 2023, he had to stop playing for 20 months because people said he did something wrong in a match. But in September 2024, he came back. He started from the early qualifying games (资格赛) and played nine matches. He won 111 frames (parts of a snooker game)! In one game, he even beat seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 17-7. Zhao played bravely, and his skills got much better. He could make long shots right 80% of the time and scored 18-century breaks, which is the same as Ding Junhui’s record in 2016!
The final against 50-year-old Williams was very exciting. Williams was the oldest player to reach the final. Zhao was ahead 17-8, but Williams tried hard and won four frames one after another. Then, in the 30th frame, Zhao stayed calm and made an 87-point break to win the game. “It’s like a dream,” Zhao said. When he got the trophy (奖杯), he held the Chinese flag high.
Ding Junhui, China’s snooker leader who once got second place in 2016, said, “He did what Chinese players have hoped for many years.” This win is like when Yao Ming made basketball popular in China.
Zhao’s story is about getting back up after falling. Even O’Sullivan said, “He’s like Federer in snooker—and we haven’t seen all he can do yet!” This win changes snooker history. It shows that if you never give up, you can turn problems into great success.

①AI kitchens are just welcomed in restaurants and other businesses. Over time, they are likely to come into the home market, changing how we live and eat. So it’s important to look ahead at the possible changes AI kitchens will bring.
②Undoubtedly, AI kitchens will bring great benefits. It can take over boring tasks, for example, peeling potatoes, letting people focus on creating new dishes. With AI kitchens, busy families will gain free time to spend together or finish important work. What’s more, it can help people eat more healthily, cutting down on sugar or salt.
③However, traditional way of cooking is more than just making food. It helps us feel grateful and connected. When parents and kids cook together, they share stories and learn from each other. Without this, mealtimes might be less meaningful and children will also miss out on learning science and math through cooking, for instance, measuring the ingredients (食材).
④While AI can help a lot, there are risks to culture. If robots only use popular ingredients, unique (独特的) local dishes may disappear. Also, AI kitchens may quietly erase the joy of sharing home-cooked meals with neighbors.
⑤What worries us most is that these smart machines sometimes are not so smart. We’re not sure if they can find out the food that has gone bad to avoid accidents. What if a robot serves rotten fruit because it can’t smell Who would be responsible if a robot makes someone sick or gets hacked These questions are as unclear as with self-driving cars.

When Laura was twelve, she started taking classes at Miss Grace’s School for Art. At first, she didn’t enjoy it. The “novice artists”—the kids who hadn’t really done art before—worked mostly with clay (黏土), and Laura was not good at it.
It wasn’t until her third year that Laura found something she was really good at—charcoal drawing (素描). She loved watching the lines spread across the page as she moved the charcoal back and forth over the paper.
One day, Sophia, the best artist in her class, sat down and set up her easel (画架) next to Laura. Laura soon felt nervous. She finally found an art form that she enjoyed—and was good at, but now Sophia was going to outshine (胜过) her again. Laura fought back tears when Miss Grace entered the room.

Laura looked to see if Sophia was joking, but she seemed completely serious. Now Laura was shocked and said, “I’m not talented…Miss Grace seldom praises me. You’re the best one in our class!”
Sophia raised her eyebrows and said, “I might be a really good copier, but I have no idea what to do when it comes to making up my own images. You are so great at making new things out of the old ones. I’ve loved your works.”
“I’ve loved yours, too,” Laura said.
“Well, definitely not this one,” Sophia said.
Laura smiled. “Maybe not right now. But if you move these lines up…” she said, pointing her finger on Sophia’s paper.
After a moment of silence, Sophia said, “That’s a great idea!”
