Riding bikes is a great way to keep healthy. It is good for our heart and mental health. A surprising benefit of cycling is that it is good for our knees. A new study says riders may not have knee pain later in life.
A team from a college made the study. Scientists surveyed 2,600 men and women aged about 64 who liked riding bikes. They asked the men and women about their physical activities, and also took X-rays (X光照片) of them. They got clear pictures of the state of their knees.
The scientist, Dr Grace Lo, said that she hardly believed the result of the study. She said fewer riders had something wrong with their knees than the people who didn’t ride bikes. She said, “I am surprised to see how strong the benefit of cycling is.” A lot of studies show that riders usually live longer.
Dr Grace Lo said, “Cycling is good for many things.” People over the age of 50 are easy to have arthritis. Cycling helps stop people from getting it. So, from now on, ride your bike to school or to work.You will get help from it.

Jiang Shumei, an illiterate granny who learned how to read at the age of 60, has painted more than 300 paintings and written 6 books, realizing a big change in her twilight years.
Born in Juye County of China’s Shandong Province in 1937, Jiang now lives in Suihua City of China’s Heilongjiang Province. In 1996, Jiang’s husband died in a traffic accident. In order to relieve Jiang’s sadness, her daughter Zhang Ailing started teaching her to read. Since 2012, Jiang has been writing with Zhang’s help and encouragement.
“I never thought I could be a writer,” Jiang said. The hard times in her life became the inspiration for her stories. Jiang’s compositions were posted on the Internet by her daughter, who is also a writer.Then she got the chance to publish a book.
Since April 2013, Jiang’s articles have been published in magazines. In October that year, she published her first book Troubled Time, Poor Time. In 2015, she became a member of the China Writers Association.
In addition to writing, Jiang learned painting and calligraphy. “I want to be four kinds of masters, a writer, a painter, a calligrapher, and a granny,” she said proudly.
Keeping writing, doing exercise and eating a healthy diet, Jiang has good habits. “I will try to live to be 130 years old,” she said.
