第2题:根据原文第四段“Instead of showing the exact reality, he wanted to express his immediate feelings about a scene through vivid images of light and color.”
第3题:原文第五段明确提到“To show how natural light transforms a scene, Monet often painted the same subject again and again at different times of day.”,莫奈反复描绘同一主题的目的是捕捉自然光在场景中的变化,故选D。

第2题:原文第四段提到“Besides their remarkable physical strength, horses also have powerful brains, having 'excellent memories', according to Discovery News. Maybe that's why a Chinese idiom goes: 'An old horse knows the way.'”,可知“老马识途”的由来是马拥有出色的记忆力,故选D。
第3题:根据原文第六段“Interestingly, the term 'chivalry' itself is derived from the Old French word 'cheval', meaning horse.”,可知“chivalry”一词源自古法语词汇,故选A。

Day1 Claude Monet's use of light and color revolutionizes art
Careful brushstrokes, lifelike figures and a focus on details... These are the main features of realism: an important art style in 19th-century France. One artist, however, dared to break away from the search for exact detail and change how people saw art through the magic of light and color.
That artist is Claude Monet (1840-1926), a key figure in the impressionist movement that transformed French painting. As we mark the 100th anniversary of Monet's passing in 2026, his works continue to fascinate people from around the world.
Born in Paris, Monet enjoyed being outdoors and began drawing at a young age. He started to focus on painting outdoor scenery in the 1860s. One of his most famous paintings Impression, Sunrise shows the quiet beauty of a sunrise over the harbor of Le Havre in France. With quick brushstrokes and a focus on light and color, the painting looked very different from other works of the time.
After seeing the work, art critic Louis Leroy spoke negatively about it, saying it was a mere "impression" of a sunrise. Little did he realize that he had helped give impressionism its name. As Monet once said: "Impressionism is only direct sensation". Instead of showing the exact reality, he wanted to express his immediate feelings about a scene through vivid images of light and color.
To show how natural light transforms a scene, Monet often painted the same subject again and again at different times of day. From the 1890s, he began painting in series in both cities and the countryside. For his Rouen Cathedral series, Monet rented a room across from the cathedral as a short-term studio, where he painted 30 views of it over three years.
Starting in the 1910s, Monet focused almost entirely on the water lily pond he created in his garden in Giverny, France. His Water Lilies series, which consists of about 250 oil paintings, shows the flower's beauty at various times of day. The artist even used a boat as a floating studio to capture new perspectives.
This never-ending search for beauty lies at the heart of Monet's work, as he frankly said: "I'm never finished with my paintings; the further I get, the more I seek the impossible and the more powerless I feel."

Starting in the 1910s, Monet focused almost entirely on the water lily pond he created in his garden in Giverny, France.

③ 划线部分为定语从句,修饰先行词the water lily pond,前面省略了关系代词that/which。

Day2 The horse is a symbol of vigor and strong will
When Spring Festival arrived on Feb 17, we raced into the Year of the Horse. In China, you can spot all sorts of horse figures available in shops and on streets to mark the occasion. But why was the horse chosen to be one of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs
Horses are liked and admired by people all over the world because they are strong, graceful and powerful. They led soldiers into battle, pulled ploughs and served as transportation before machine vehicles were invented.
While horses may be of less practical importance in modern society, their vigor and spirit still run deeply through Chinese culture. For instance, the horse appears in many Chinese idioms, most of which have positive meanings. A talented person is often called "qianlima", an energetic horse that covers a thousand li a day. And someone who is good at identifying talent is referred to as "bole", a person who could judge a swift horse by its appearance in ancient China. Other horse-related phrases in Chinese include "madaochenggong (instant success)" and "longmajingshen (full of vigor)".
Besides their remarkable physical strength, horses also have powerful brains, having "excellent memories", according to Discovery News. Maybe that's why a Chinese idiom goes: "An old horse knows the way."
It's certainly not unique to Chinese culture that the horse is a symbol of strength, speed and beauty. It has a very privileged place in other cultures, too.
In the Middle Ages, the horse emerged as a powerful symbol of chivalry and nobility in Western societies. Interestingly, the term "chivalry" itself is derived from the Old French word "cheval", meaning horse. This concept greatly shaped the 19th-century image of the "gentleman", embodying qualities such as good manners, courage, and loyalty to friends.
Since the horse is universally honored as a symbol of vigor, loyalty, persistence and intelligence, people born in the Year of the Horse are said to share such good qualities.

Day3 A Chinese actor prepares for launch as space tourism develops rapidly
Huang Jingyu, a popular Chinese actor, is going to space! On Jan 22, Beijing Interstellor Human Spaceflight Technology announced that Huang has signed up as passenger No 009 on the company's CYZ1 spacecraft, reported The Paper. The other 19 seats have been reserved by Chinese scientists, businesspeople and a humanoid robot called PM01.
As China's first manned commercial spacecraft, CYZ1 will make its first flight in 2028, said China National Radio. For a 3-million-yuan ticket, passengers will enjoy zero gravity for several minutes. The flight will be suborbital, meaning the spacecraft will travel far enough to cross the Karman line but will not stay in space or orbit Earth.
The Karman line is an imaginary boundary set 100 kilometers above sea level. It is widely recognized as the point where Earth ends and space begins as the atmosphere becomes too thin for aircraft to maintain lift. To go beyond this line, spacecraft must use propulsion systems that do not depend on air.
Space travel has become more accessible thanks to lower launch costs and new technologies such as reusable rockets. The era of commercial spaceflight officially began on April 28, 2001, when 60-year-old US businessman Dennis Tito traveled to the International Space Station after paying $20 million. The industry made major progress in 2021, when three US companies - Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin and SpaceX - each launched their first space tourism missions, according to the website Space.
Commercial spaceflight can also benefit industries like solar energy and AI. "It's always sunny [in space] ... Any given solar panel will do five times more energy in space than on the ground," Elon Musk, CEO and founder of SpaceX, said at a January event. Space also helps keep systems cool, as there is no air to hold heat and temperatures in Earth's shadow average about 270 C. This makes space an ideal place to build solar-powered AI data centers, Musk added.
But can ordinary people handle space travel Pang Zhihao, a researcher at the China Academy of Space Technology, told Science and Technology Daily that passengers need strong heart and lung function to handle the g-forces, which can reach three to four times normal gravity, during launch and return. Motion sickness is another challenge, but most healthy adults can get used to it after training.

Day4 Finding a connection
The day before school started, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear. I didn't want to come off as a try-hard, but I also didn't want to be seen as a slob. This wasn't just my first day of high school - it was my first day in a new state. First impressions mattered, and my top priority was to impress the people I'd be spending the next four years with.
After carefully sorting through my closet, I emerged proudly in a patterned dress I truly felt good in. An hour later, I headed toward room 1136 feeling confident, but as I turned the corner into my first class, my jaw dropped to the floor.
Sitting at her desk was Mrs Hutfilz, my English teacher - wearing the exact same dress as me. I kept my head down and tiptoed to my seat, but the first-day introductions were unavoidable, and soon it was my turn. I made it through my speech smoothly, until Mrs Hutfilz stood up, jokingly adding that she liked my style.
Though I had dreaded this moment since walking in, the anxiety that had built up all morning surprisingly melted away. Students who had been staring at their phones raised their heads to pay attention as I shared my story. My smile grew as I giggled with my peers, ending my speech with "And I'm very stylish - much like my first period teacher."
After class, I talked with Mrs Hutfilz, sharing how nervous I'd been about starting over in a new school and state. It was a relief to have made a real, lighthearted connection with my first teacher - one that lasted the whole year.
This incident reminded me that high school is a time to have fun, work hard and make memories, not stress over trivial details. Looking back four years later, the 10 minutes I spent worrying about my speech were hardly worth it. While my first period of high school didn't go as planned, it ended up making the day unforgettable in the best way.
