Alex rode his bike on his way home, and Johnson's Pond came into view.
Sometimes his dad took him canoeing (划独木舟) there, and Alex loved it. The pond was always so alive with activity, and sometimes Alex discovered turtles(乌龟) sunbathing on sunny rocks. Alex was curious about the turtles he saw. When it was too rainy to go canoeing, he and his dad would go to the library to check out books on turtles.
Now it looked like tomorrow might be another sunny day. He decided he would ask Dad if they could go canoeing and look for turtles again.
Just then Alex saw something in the road up ahead. It looked like a big gray rock. But it was a funny place for a rock to be. He jumped off to have a look. It turned out that it was actually a large turtle making its way across the road. Alex knew right away it was a snapping turtle.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a car approaching. The turtle was still only halfway across the road. Alex knew he couldn't pick it up because snapping turtles have a powerful bite and they could even bite off someone's finger! What could he do
Thinking fast, he started waving both hands wildly. “Stop! Stop!" he cried. The car slowed to a stop.
"Are you alright, Alex " It was his neighbor,Mrs. Ramos.
"I'm fine, Mrs. Ramos," said Alex. "I'm just trying to save a turtle. It's probably going to lay eggs. "
"Oh, yeah. It's spring," said Mrs. Ramos. “So,I guess a lot of turtles need to lay their eggs in the grass across the road. " Then she waved goodbye and drove off.
Alex thought about what Mrs. Ramos had said. "There would probably be more turtles trying to cross the road at this spot!" he realized. But he couldn't stand there all day trying to stop cars. He looked around and a road sign caught his eye. And then his face brightened.

When I was seven years old, my family moved from Mexico to America. In Mexico, I was a cheerful girl who loved making people laugh with my jokes and inventing fun games to play with my friends. However, when I arrived in America, I found it hard to fit in, and I became quieter.
We lived in a small house with a modest yard where we grew vegetables—my responsibility. While I took pride in watching them grow, there were times when I dreamed of having a beautiful garden like my schoolmate Luella's, with its delicate tulips (郁金香). Although Luella lived in the same neighborhood as me, we barely knew each other.
It was after a tornado that Luella and I finally became close friends.
The tornado struck on a Sunday afternoon. The gentle breeze transformed into a strong wind, and thick gray clouds filled the sky. Gradually, the tornado took shape, starting as a thin rope and growing into a large black funnel (漏斗). My entire family gathered in the bathroom, seeking shelter from the storm. Terrified, I sat close to my mom, knees in my chest. After the storm had passed, our worries and fears were replaced by relief that we were unharmed and that our house had remained undamaged. As I stepped outside, I witnessed the extent of the damage the tornado had caused to our neighborhood. Across the street, a tall tree had fallen, crushing| Luella's garden in front of her yellow house. We hurried over to check on it. Fortunately, her family seemed to be away at the time, and no one was injured. However, her once-beautiful garden was in ruins, with the fallen tree destroying the tulips and debris (碎片) spread everywhere. I could only imagine how heartbroken they must feel seeing this.
Then my mom's usual words rang in my ear, "It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and my family started to think about how we could help.
Paragraph1:Just at that moment, Luella's family returned in their car.
Paragraph2: Even after the debris was cleared, I could still sense Luella's sorrow for her lost garden.
Paragraph 1:
Just at that moment,Luella's family returned in their car. Seeing the ruined garden, Luella felt a great sense of sorrow welling up in her heart and surging through her. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she stood frozen before the devastation. My mother stepped forward, patted her on the shoulder, and said gently, "We're here to help you rebuild it." Then my family immediately began clearing the debris. I approached Luella and volunteered, "Let's plant new flowers tomorrow! I can bring vegetable seeds from my garden too." Her eyes lit up with hesitant hope as she whispered, "Thank you... I thought nobody cared."
Paragraph 2:
Even after the debris was cleared,I could still sense Luella's sorrow for her lost garden. The next morning, I brought my best vegetable seeds and colorful flower seedlings. Seeing the gardening tools in my hands, Luella ran to me and cried in an excited tone, "You remembered! I can't believe you brought so many plants!" We worked side by side, digging soil and planting seeds under the warm sunshine. When we finally finished, Luella hugged me as tightly as possible with her eyes filled with tears of gratitude. From this unforgettable experience, I realized that a small act of kindness may be powerful enough to build bridges between hearts and create lasting friendships.
Just at that moment, Luella’s family returned in their car. Empathy surged within me as I saw their shock and disbelief. Approaching Luella, I tightly held her hands and said, “I’m so sorry for your loss, but thankfully you’re all right.” She weakly nodded, still puzzled by the shocking scene. My family volunteered to help clean up the mess, cutting down the branches and removing the fallen trees. To lift Luella’s spirits and give her comfort, I tried my best to cheer her up while tidying the garden with her, during which my own joyful personality seemed to revive a bit.
Even after the debris was cleared, I could still sense Luella’s sorrow for her lost garden. My heart went out to her, knowing how much she had cherished those tulips that she had devoted so much energy to. Determined to restore the beauty of the garden, I suggested we rebuild the garden, which Luella delightedly agreed. Carefully planted and watered, the new tulip seedlings once again filled the garden, which symbolized the beginning of our friendship, as well as the turning that I finally got embraced by this new environment. My mom was right: it’s more blessed to give than to receive because when you give, you may receive something unexpected in

I used to be very active in sports and games when I was in primary school. I won the long jump and was a fairly good runner. As a result, I was chosen to represent the school in the long jump and relay events at the District Sports Meet.
The meeting lasted two days. I had no events scheduled for the first day. So I kept myself busy by watching the others compete.
The next day, I was getting ready for my events. The long jump was scheduled for the early afternoon, followed by the 4×100 meters relay race later in the afternoon. I thought I was a pretty good jumper, but as the competition began, I realized I was wrong. I was not the best at all. 3.65 meters was not bad. Then there was Typhoon, who jumped over 4 meters! That was quite an achievement for a ten-year-old boy. I thought maybe getting a second place was also acceptable. However, when we finished our jumps, I came in fourth place, just missing out on a medal.
That was disappointing, but I reminded myself that we still had a chance in the 4×100 meters relay, for which I was to run the third leg. The race time arrived. We stepped to our places and prepared for the race. After a minute or so, I heard the starter’s gun go off. My heart beat so fast. When the first runners took off, I watched with held breath as my team runners kept up with the others. They were great! As they got closer, I realized we were almost in first place. I felt my blood began to boil when my teammate passed the baton(接力棒) on to my hand.
Paragraph1: I took the baton and began my run.
Paragraph2: We just accepted it was bad luck.
I took the baton and began my run. Without hesitation, I rushed forward with all my strength, feeling the wind whistling past my ears. My heart was seized by a strong desire to keep the lead for the team. But just then, my foot slipped unexpectedly, and I stumbled slightly. For one frozen moment, I panicked that I might drop the baton. To my relief, I managed to hold the baton tightly and regain my balance. Encouraged by the cheers of my classmates, I pushed myself harder and passed the baton to the last runner smoothly, though we fell behind a little. The last runner tried his best to catch up, but we still crossed the finish line in last place.
We just accepted it was bad luck. After knowing the final result, I hung my head in shame, tears of frustration blurred my vision. Unexpectedly, my teammates didn’t complain at all. The moment they saw me, they gathered around with warm smiles and open arms. Our captain patted me on the shoulder, and encouraged me in a gentle tone, “It doesn’t matter. You have tried your best!” With tears in my eyes, I hugged them tightly, too moved to say a word. From the unforgettable experience, I realize that the true meaning of sports lies not in winning medals, but in the precious friendship and mutual support we share along the way.
