My cousins were raised in a rich family. They lived in a fancy (豪华) house. But my cousins didn’t think they were better than anyone else, even though they were rich. The reason was that my Uncle John and Aunt Kate made sure they were not spoiled with gifts. The pool was a perfect example of this.
One day in the summer, my cousins were bored and hot, so they said to my Uncle John, “Dad, we’re the only kids in this community that don’t have a pool. Can we have one ”
“Of course you can,” agreed their father. “A pool it is! It will start tomorrow.” The kids were surprised to see how agreeable their dad was.
Early the next day, my uncle woke everyone up and brought them downstairs. “Come on outside! I have a surprise for you.” “Close your eyes.” They did, and he led them to the backyard. “Now hold out your hands,” he said. When they opened their eyes, each of them had been presented with a new spade.
A look of surprise came over their faces. Then, their dad said with a smile, “You can have a pool, but you’re going to have to dig it!”
At first, digging went slowly. They were tired every day. But as the week passed, they began to see their work take shape. After ten days, they had the pool completely dug out. Then, the workers came and finished the rest of the work. In another week, they had a finished pool. And best of all, they had helped make it.
Years later, one of my cousins said to me, “I never asked my dad if I could borrow the car because I was afraid I’d have to build it myself!”

Global (全球的) warming is like a fever for our Earth. It happens when our planet gets hotter because there’s too much of a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air. Cars, factories, and even cutting down trees can make this gas.
Think of Earth wearing a big blanket; the more carbon dioxide in the air, the thicker the blanket gets. This blanket keeps the Earth warm, but if it gets too thick, the Earth can get too hot. That’s why we need to keep the blanket just right, not too thick and not too thin.
When Earth gets too hot, ice at the top and bottom of the world starts to turn into water. This is a problem because animals like polar bears and penguins (企鹅) need the ice to live. It’s also bad because it can make the ocean water rise, and that can flood places where people live.
The good thing is, there are many clever people coming up with ideas on how to cool our planet down. Helping Earth feel better can start with steps as simple as recycling our trash, enjoying a bike ride instead of taking a short car trip or choosing toys made from materials that are good for the planet. All of us can be Earth’s doctors in a way, making sure it doesn’t get too hot with too heavy a blanket. It’s very important that every one of us takes part in caring for our big home, keeping it just cool enough and just warm enough. After all, taking care of Earth is like taking care of our big family house—it keeps us all safe, healthy, and happy.

76.Possible Version 1:
My Favorite Reading Way
Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, and I always choose paper books. Here’s why.
First, paper books give me a special feeling. I love holding a real book, turning its pages, and even smelling the paper. It makes reading feel like an adventure. Second, they are good for my eyes. Unlike screens, paper doesn’t make my eyes tired quickly, so I can read for hours. Finally, paper books help me focus. There are no extra messages or games to distract me.
In short, paper books make my reading time peaceful and enjoyable. Though e-books are convenient, paper books will always be my favorite!Possible Version 2:
My Favorite Reading Way
My favorite way to read is using e-books, and here are my reasons.
First, e-books are super easy to carry. With just a small smart device, I can take hundreds of books anywhere—perfect for trips or school. Second, they cost less and save trees. E-books are often cheaper than paper ones, and they don’t need paper, which is often made from trees. Third, they have cool tools. I can change the text size, look up words in a dictionary easily, or search for information quickly.
In a word, e-books fit my busy life perfectly. Though I sometimes read paper books, the convenience of e-books makes them my top choice!
