Study skills of this unit introduce how to guess the meanings of new
words from the context. It’s a common method in reading and useful to
the students. It also present some exercise for the students to practice.
After learning the former parts of this unit, the students have got
much knowledge about art. The topic of this part is: The art form I like
best. It’s familiar to the students. However, It’s not easy to write an
article.
Analysis of students
The students have used this method through their reading exercise, but they can’t guess in a proper way sometimes.
The students are expected to write an article after learning this unit. They need to learn a proper way to produce.

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. guess the meaning of a new word from the context.
2. use the new words ,phrases and sentences: praise, gift, etc.
3. complete a questionnaire.
4. write stories about the art forms they like best.

1.Study skills
1.Tell students we can guess the meanings of new words from the context.
2.T:When we come across a new word, we don’t need to look it up in the dictionary. The sentence itself might give the meaning of the word. When we look at the words before and after the new word, it is possible to find its meaning.
例句.The teacher’s question was a real riddle,a very difficult question
to understand.

2. Task:Lead-in
Present a piece of Tan Dun’s music before class.
Tell students that some people’s favourite art form is music. Look at the picture and guess what is the teacher’s favourite art form?
T: I like film best.
I became interested in film 10 years ago. It makes my life
colourful. Once I thought my life was boring, then I knew an e-friend called Zhu Ge. She likes reading, travelling and watching films. She introduced many films to me. When I am free or tired, I make a cup of coffee, then enjoy a film. It makes me relaxed and I know more about the world.

Of all the things that make me happy, I like singing best. Many of my friends praise me when they hear me singing. However, I once didn’t like singing because I felt nervous when singing or speaking in front of many people.
I became interested in singing when I was ten years old. One day, my friends and I were celebrating my tenth birthday. My friends wanted me to sing a song for them. I had never sung in front of many people and was not brave enough to sing. But all my friends encouraged me. I finally sang a song and all my friends cheered me for my singing. They said that I had a real gift for singing. Since then, I have been crazy about singing songs.
I often sing when I feel relaxed. Sometimes I also sing for my family. I enjoy myself in the world of songs every time I sing.
