When was the last time you felt stressed What did you do with it Recently, many young people have turned to trees to help with their stress—they hug trees. It sounds so unusual, doesn’t it 61
In 1984, a US scientist called Edward Wilson pointed out an idea called “biophilia hypothesis(亲生命假说)”. He said that humans are born to love being around other living things, such as trees, flowers and animals. Humans’ love for nature is in our blood. 62 It also helps explain why people love to keep pets to control stress.
63 A study in 2021 reported that the activity can increase oxytocin(催产素). It’s a hormone which is responsible for feelings. The higher the level of oxytocin is, the calmer and happier we may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in oxytocin.
Another hormone called cortisol(皮质醇) is a marker of stress. The brain produces more cortisol when the person acts anxiously, angrily, or very sadly. 64 Thus, we can feel better.
Although the act is helpful to us, it’s important to keep in mind that we shouldn’t hurt trees while hugging them. 65

The theme of the 2025 World Environment Day is “Ending Plastic Pollution”. How does plastic pollution influence our Earth Please look at the picture below.
Scientists have found that plastic has reached almost every part of our planet! Even in places like the Arctic and the Sahara Desert, there are microplastic (微塑料) bits. They come from bigger plastic which breaks apart and ends up in oceans, soil and air.
Microplastic bits can get into a human body in different ways. We breathe them in every day. According to a report by UN Environment Programme, about 60% of our clothes are made of unnatural materials. While washing these clothes, small plastic fibers (纤维) can be produced. Microplastic bits are also found in our food. Scientists estimate (估计) that there are about twenty-four trillion microplastic bits in the oceans around the world. The fish that we eat may have eaten them by accident. Many plastic packets we use in the daily life can release (释放) microplastic bits when they are heated. Even fruits and vegetables have microplastic bits, as plants can take them in from the soil through their roots. Studies show that apples and carrots have the most microplastic bits of all.
Once microplastic bits enter a human body, they can hurt cells (细胞) and the endocrine (内分泌) system. They can also take in other harmful chemicals and help them enter our bodies, which might make us get sick more easily.
To stop plastic pollution, everyone needs to live a sustainable (可持续的) lifestyle. It’s more than throwing plastic rubbish into bins and using less plastic. Individuals and governments should work together to make a difference.

In the digital era, our country’s Ministry of Education pays much attention to AI (artificial intelligence) education for primary and secondary school students across China. They have set up AI curriculums (课程) in different levels for them. In primary school, students can get a taste of basic AI knowledge and simple operations, like using basic AI tools. As for junior high school students, they should start to understand the principles (原理) and functions of AI more deeply and use it to solve problems in study and life. In senior high school, students are expected to carry out small-scale (范围) AI project designs and research, exploring the future of AI technology
The Ministry also encourages teachers to use AI in their daily teaching activities and regular assessments (评价). A new section related to AI will be added to the national smart educational platform (平台). In this way, excellent AI resources can be collected, making it easier for students around the country to share.
Nowadays AI is just like a “golden key” for the education field and offers great opportunities for both teachers and students.
However, just as a coin has two sides, AI may bring certain challenges as well. More and more students use AI tools like DeepSeek, Doubao, ChatGPT to help with their work. They let AI do tasks that normally require thinking—such as analyzing data, writing essays, solving hard problems, making decisions etc. But is this a good thing An AI design researcher warns that if students depend too much on AI to think for them, they may lose their ability of thinking independently.
In conclusion, we’d rather use AI to make us think than think for us. Please think twice while using AI.

On the east coast of China, there are some wetlands by the Yellow Sea. Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve lies there. These are milu, also named sibuxiang in Chinese, because of their special appearance-a horse-like face, cow-like hooves, deer-like antlers, and a donkey-like tail.
Centuries ago, milu 67 (simple) lived in China. Both The Book of Mencius (《孟子》) and the Book of Rites (《礼记》) mentioned milu. And the Chinese character “mi” first appeared in oracle bone scripts (甲骨文). In 1865, a 68 (France) missionary (传教士) Pere David discovered such deer in Beijing and then introduced some to Europe. People there were very 69 (amaze) to see this rare species and called it “Pere David’s deer”.
Archaeologists (考古学家) have found that milu once disappeared in China for 100 years. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the number of milu dropped rapidly because of 70 (nature) disasters and too much hunting. By 1900, it became extinct (灭绝的) in China. Fortunately, the Duke of Bedford from Britain gave shelter to 18 milu in his country, and they were looked after well by him in the park. Later, their number increased year by year. Today this park has the 71 (large) number of milu in Europe.
In the 72 (eighty) of the last century, in order to take 20 milu back to Beijing Nanhaizi Milu Park from Britain, the Chinese government put forward a 73 (suggest) to Britain. This was a 74 (success) start in China’s milu protection and was supported by the descendants (后代) of the Duke of Bedford. In 1986, another 39 milu were taken back and sent 75 (live) in Dafeng Milu Nature Reserve.
Today, there’re over 5,000 milu living in China, with nearly 1,350 living in the wild. The return of milu is a witness of animal protection between two countries—China and Britain.

69.【答案】I'm proud of myself
Everyone is unique in the world. We should be proud that we each have our own good qualities or talents. And I'm proud that I'm a good listener like Sigmund Freud and I never give up when facing difficulties, just like Spud Webb.
Once my friend was sad about her bad exam grades. I listened to her patiently and cheered her up with kind words. I also used to be weak in PE, but I kept practicing running every day and finally made great progress.
In the future, I will keep helping others and working hard in my study. I will be more confident and face all kinds of difficulties bravely to become a better me.
Be proud of ourselves and accept what we already have, and we'll stay happier and healthier.
