The Miracle of the Web
In a rural farm, a small pig named Wilbur lived in a warm barn. He was loved by a kind-hearted girl, but when he grew too big, he was sold to her uncle, Mr. White. Life in the barn was lonely until Wilbur met Charlotte, a wise spider.
One day, a sheep said to Wilbur, “Mr. White is fattening you up for Christmas!” Wilbur cried, “I don’t want to die!” Charlotte, sensing his fear, said, “I’ll save you.” She began spinning (吐丝) words into her web: “Some Pig”. The farmers were amazed, and Wilbur became famous.
Charlotte’s plan continued. She spun “Wonderful” and “Radiant” into her web, each word drew more visitors to the farm. “These words make people think you’re special.” Charlotte explained. But as the days passed, Charlotte got weaker and weaker. Wilbur saw her legs shaking as she worked. Her body was now as small as a small nut. One evening, he gently touched her web with his nose. “Let me help!” he begged. “A pig’s job is to be loved,” she said softly. “A spider’s job is to spin. This is how we save each other.” Wilbur watched her try to keep going. He didn’t understand why saving him took so much from her, but he knew the web was more than words.
Just before the county fair (集市) , Charlotte laid eggs. “Take care of these.” she told Wilbur. At the fair, Wilbur won a prize, but Charlotte was too tired to celebrate. “You’ve taught me that friendship is the greatest treasure.” she said softly.

Players and how they compete
To be a good esports player, you need to be young, strong and able to stand pressure, with great gaming talent. They usually start at age 16 or 17. They can make millions and often stop playing esports in their mid-20s. After that, players may then go on to coach esports teams or work for publishers.
Competitions and leagues (联盟)
Like other sports, esports teams play in leagues. The leagues have regular seasons and other kinds of competitions. The league competitions are run by companies like Electronic Sports League. They are now nearly as big as traditional sports. Sometimes, they are held in big sport centers like the Staples Center in Los Angeles, US.
Teams and organizations
Players often play for teams that focus on certain games and have millions of followers on social media. The best teams are gathered by organizations like China’s Versus Programming Network. An organization supports a competition with money. They will make the event more known through advertising on social media, TV and other ways.
Publishers

Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire.
Since the Warring States period (战国时期), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge progress in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the valuable product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass down the art except those aging sugar painters.
For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Therefore, the art should be remembered, missed and passed down.
14.What big question does Paragraph 2 answer
A.What is sugar painting B.Why is sugar painting produced
C.When is sugar painting used D.How has sugar painting developed
15.What problem does sugar painting face now
A.It is too easy for everyone to learn.
B.Few people want to pass down this folk art.
C.It is too expensive for common people to buy.
D.It is not listed as an intangible cultural heritage.
16.What do we need to make sugar painting according to the passage
(1) syrup (2) a spoon (3) a paintbrush (4) a smooth table
A.(1)(2)(3) B.(2)(3)(4) C.(1)(2)(4) D.(1)(3)(4)
17.Why did the writer write the passage
A.To explain how sugar painting is produced.
B.To introduce the achievement in sugar painting.
C.To spread the traditional Chinese culture of sugar painting.
D.To tell how traditional Chinese culture influences people’s life.
