Test B
1 Part A Reading aloud
Caffeine occurs naturally in coffee beans, tea leaves and some tree nuts. People have been
consuming it for centuries, but daily consumption took off at different times in different places
around the world. Coffee became popular in the 15th and 16th centuries. Tea became popular
by the 14th century in China, but didn’t catch on in Britain until almost 400 years later. Today,
caffeine can be found nearly everywhere, and more and more caffeine-infused products are
hitting the shelves every day. While caffeine may provide great benefits, such as increased focus,
alertness and energy, it comes with considerable risks just like any other substance.
2 Part B Role Play (角色扮演)
任务:(1) 与同学 Mary 谈论舞狮的话题;
Tom: Hi, Mary! I saw you girls practicing lion dance yesterday. Your team looked awesome!
Mary: Thanks, Tom. We've been preparing for a performance.
Tom: When will you perform
/
Mary: Next Saturday. Our team will perform lion dance at the city theatre.
Tom: Is it for a big event
Mary: Yeah, it's for the celebration of the coming Women's Day. We got the invitation a month
ago. Since then, we've been practicing every day.
Tom: I see. You must be very tired practicing so much.
Mary: Yes, but I don't mind because I enjoy every minute of it.
Why do you love lion dance so much / Why are you so passionate about lion dance /
Why do you have such strong love for lion dance / Why is your love for lion dance so deep
Perhaps because I was born into a family of lion dancers. My father and my uncles
often practiced lion dance in the backyard when I was little. I enjoyed watching them practice.
When they danced, it seemed as if we had a lovely lion in the house. I gradually grew interested
in lion dancing. Then I asked my father to teach me, but he didn't agree.
Why did your father refuse to teach you / Why did your father say no to teaching you
/ Why wouldn't your father agree to teach you / Why was your father unwilling to teach you
Because he was afraid that I was too little to handle lion dancing. But I didn't give
up. I kept doing physical training every day. One year later, my father changed his mind because
he saw I was really determined and strong enough. He started to teach me some lion-dancing
skills. I learned quickly. Soon I gave my first show at a traditional celebration in our village.
How was your first performance / What was your first performance like / How did
your first performance go
I think it went well. Some girls in the village found my performance cool and
attractive. They started to learn lion dance with me. We added elements of modern dance to our
lion dance to make it more interesting. We had so much fun that we formed a team. It was the
first girls' lion-dance team in the village.

标题:A Treasure House
内容:
Tom always wanted to live far from big cities. One lovely summer day, he went on a trip to a
small town. He liked the place so much that he decided to settle down there. Tom was especially
/
fond of an old house in the town because it had a wonderful view. So he bought it, luckily at a
good price. However, the house was in rather bad condition. Tom decided to repair the house by
himself. He started with the kitchen. While removing the old floor of the kitchen, Tom was
surprised to find a secret room down below. It was dark inside, so Tom entered the room with a
candle. In the candle light, Tom found boxes of cups, plates and teapots. These items seemed to
have quite some history. Tom asked some experts to come over for further examination. It turned
out that the items were of some historical value. Tom thought the items should be given better
care, so he donated all of them to the local museum. The museum set up a special exhibition room
for the items. In honor of Tom's generous donations, the exhibition room was named after him.
