Austria is not just about impressive scenery, rich culture and excellent food. What makes Austria truly unique are its people.
Austrians live by the concept of Lebensgefühl: the willing and total involvement in life itself. Lebensgefühl can be felt in every moment, large or small. It’s the appealing laughter of a landlady during a chat in the morning or the jokes with a local guide. It’s the locals on the next table discussing the meaning of life until well after midnight. It’s the art of not taking life too
seriously, something that the Austrians have mastered to perfection.
Lebensgefühl means everyone is welcome in Austria, and welcome to come just as they are.
So get ready to be pleased by Austria and the Austrians this autumn and winter and experience Lebensgefühl firsthand!

There comes a time for every family when the tables turn and the parent has to answer to the child. Mine came recently when my wife and I stayed with our elder son in Los Angeles. A whole week under his roof!
“Dad, don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth,” Nathaniel told me
seriously on our first night. I grabbed extra paper towels to wipe the kitchen counter and was
instructed to use the dishcloth. Not to leave my ugly walking shoes sitting out. Don’t wear a neck warmer when walking the dogs in the morning — it will warm up when we get to the park. Why drink so much sparkling water And do you have to take a shower before we drive to Topanga
At first I wondered how I’d raised an awkward son. Then I remembered how often I threw
the golden rule of parenting at Nathaniel and his siblings when they were young. “Someday,
you’ll have a home of your own and can live however you want,” I’d say. “Until then, you’ll have to do as we ask.” And so I smilingly did as Nathaniel said, but with a touch of playfulness, like
hiding a separate roll of paper towels into the storeroom, or moving one of his favorite photographs a few inches.
There were perks to playing beta to Nathaniel’s alpha. He cleaned dishes after dinner. He

also set our daily outings. And he willingly drove everywhere, sparing me the pain ofLos Angeles traffic.
We were walking along El Matador Beach our last afternoon and hit an extended patch of rocks — clearly the end of the line. Nathaniel guided me across one large stone to the next,
patiently telling me where to place my feet and hands as ocean waves came close. I was
frightened, but after a couple hundred yards we made it to a fresh sandy stretch. “You did it! I’m really proud,” he said. It was then that I knew for sure that the son also rises to fatherhood.

Cuckoos (杜鹃) are a well-known and much-loved species in the UK. They are a call of summer, travelling all the way from their wintering ground in Africa to breed on our islands.
Unfortunately, cuckoos are facing a dramatic decline in the UK. Since 1995, their breeding
population has decreased by 35%. Why this decline is occurring is something researchers at the British Trust for Ornithology (鸟类学) are trying to find out, and they are using some high-tech equipment to do so.
Researchers have been attaching satellite tags (标签) to cuckoos, which transmit real-time location data. This data reveals how long cuckoos spend in the UK, when they leave, and which migration routes they take between the UK and Africa.
试卷第 3 页,共 11 页
The hope is that this data will give scientists a detailed understanding of cuckoo migration, the threats they face along the way, and the conservation measures that could be adopted to
improve their chances of survival.
The tags have already revealed many insights into cuckoo migration. It’s hoped that as data keeps coming in, scientists will better understand the factors that influence whether cuckoos
survive their migration, and therefore the best ways to help protect the species.
It’s not just the scientists who have been eagerly tracking the tagged birds, though. The tags provide live location data which is published on an online map. Members of the public can
therefore watch the cuckoos’ incredible journeys, too, and if you click on the individuals on the map, you can find out more about each bird.
“This ongoing project opens a significant window on the wonders of migration, and our discoveries are helping to shape the way we look at bird migration more widely,” says lead
scientist on the project, Dr. Chris Hewson. “It will also set a groundwork from which cuckoo
conservation measures can be planned, increasing the likelihood that the call of these birds will grace our summers for generations to come.”
8 .What can we know about the researchers’ study on the cuckoos
A .They have already found the exact cause of the bird’s decline.
B .They are using cutting-edge technology to gather data.
C .They focus mainly on the time cuckoos spend in the UK
D .They believe the decline is due to changes in migration routes.
9 .How can the public engage with the cuckoo tracking project
A .By contributing funds to the research B .By participating in birdwatching tours.
C.By following the live location data online. D.By observing the birds in their natural habitat 10 .What does Dr. Chris Hewson think of the project
A .It inspires the public’s passion for technology.
B .It shows the exact population of cuckoos in the UK.
C .It will help cuckoos choose a safer migration route.
D .It lays a foundation for the species’ conservation.
11 .Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A .Tracking Cuckoos’ Journeys B .Cuckoos’ Migration Routes
试卷第 4 页,共 11 页
C .Decline of Cuckoos in the UK D .Conservation Measures for Cuckoos

Black Friday isn’t what it once was. Less than 15 years ago, it was common for people to wake up at early hours to drive to a store, where they would stand in line, waiting for the doors to open in order to get the best deals.
Those people stay, but not in the numbers they used to, thanks to online shopping. But as AI becomes fixed in people’s habits, it could have an increasingly large role in Black Friday.
A growing number of buyers will be depending on AI to help them find deals. Some 33%
of the people in a 2025 survey said they plan to use AI as part of their holiday shopping double the number who did last year. Many say the tech could help them with gift ideas and product
discovery. A separate study from another marketing platform (平台) found that 56% of buyers say they’ll use AI tools among Black Friday.
AI can do a lot more than help people think of creative gifts, of course. GenAI can research prices and recommend the best deal, in some cases even buying the products for you. And a
growing number of people are taking advantage of that. Traffic from AI platforms to retail (零售) sites in July was up by 4,700%, according to Adobe Analytics. And the company says there will be an increase in AI usage of between 515% and 550% this holiday season, compared to 2024.
To use AI for finding deals, first make a clear list or what you want to buy. Be very specific about the product details when asking the chatbot. For example, if you want a computer, mention the exact model and your preferences. The AI will then search for the best prices and may also
suggest cash-back apps. However, always check the results on the store’s website yourself, as prices can change quickly. This method saves you time and makes holiday shopping easier.
12 .What do we know about Black Friday from the first two paragraphs
A .It was started about 15 years ago. B .It has been influenced by the Internet.
C .It changes people’s shopping habits. D .It has become less popular than before.
13 .How does the author describe the growing trend of using AI while shopping
A .By listing figures. B .By quoting experts.
C .By defining concepts. D .By comparing platforms.
14 .What does the author suggest readers do with AI tools in the last paragraph
试卷第 5 页,共 11 页
A .Rely on the results entirely. B .Reconsider your own preferences.
C .Take the unstable prices into account. D .Check the cash- back apps regularly.
15 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .AI: a decision- maker in pricing B .AI: a game-changer for shopping
C .Online shopping: a thing of the past D .Online shopping: a booming industry

Do you have a hard time staying on task Do you constantly leave things on your to-do list till the last minute If so, you’re likely procrastinating (拖延). 16 For whatever reason,
there are many ways to break the habit and get back on task.
17 Include short-term tasks you need to finish daily and weekly and long-term
goals that may take months or years to finish. Seeing everything written down can help you plan out what needs to be done to meet your goals.
Tackle things one step at a time, so you don’t get stressed. It can be stressful to think about finishing a whole essay or completing a week’s worth of tasks. Instead of thinking about
everything you must do, break it down into small pieces. 18
Make a plan in the morning and pick the most challenging task first. You’ll be most
energized in the morning once you’ve eaten breakfast and woken up fully. 19 You’ll feel
better once it’s done, and then you can move on to a few easier tasks for the rest of the day. Keep in mind that this strategy isn’t for everyone, so stick to tackling your most difficult tasks whenever you feel the most motivated.
Motivate yourself to finish a task with something you love. Tell yourself that when you
complete your to-do list, you’ll get to celebrate with one of your favorite things. ___20___ Try
rewarding yourself with a meal at your favorite restaurant, seeing a movie with a friend, or buying yourself something you’ve always wanted.

My name is Emma, an eight-year-old, shy and never very competitive. When I started a
new elementary school this year, I decided to join the cross-country team. My dad loves running, but he didn’t push me; he simply smiled and said, “If you want to try, I’ll always be here for you.”
It didn’t go well at first. I struggled to keep up and usually finished last. There was only one other girl on the team, and the new environment made me feel small and awkward. After a few
weeks, I asked my parents if I could quit. They agreed, but I could see the worry in Dad’s eyes
试卷第 9 页,共 11 页
and felt I had let him down.
Instead of scolding (责骂) me, Dad started inviting me for “easy runs” in the park — no
stopwatch, no pressure. Sometimes we jogged, sometimes I rode my bike beside him as we talked. Sometimes when the path got too long, I would whisper to myself, “I’m so tired. Maybe I should just stop. It doesn’t matter.” However, little by little, I stopped saying “I can’t” and began asking, “How far today, Dad ”
In the spring, I surprised even myself by saying that I wanted to try cross-country again. By then I had made friends, and our quiet runs had made running seem less frightening. I was still one of the slower runners, but I could stay on my feet longer in practice.
Yesterday was our end-of-season race. Parents weren’t officially invited, but Dad told me he would try to come. As I stood at the starting line, nervous, I saw him walking across the field and waving. My heart leapt with determination.
The whistle blew and we took off. At the end of the first loop, I realized I was near the front of the pack. When I saw Dad again, he ran alongside me for a few steps, and I asked him to stay
with me.
We kept running side by side, the finish line coming into view.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

and you’ll reach the finish line.” His words gave me strength, and I pushed myself harder, determined not to let him down.
With a final burst, I crossed the finish line, still thinking about what this race meant to me and Dad.
