In February, Mia DaPonte, a 12-year-old girl from the US, became the youngest person to get the title of Master Scuba Diver (高级潜水员).
Scuba diving is exciting, but it can also be dangerous. To stay safe, divers take training courses (课程). Most people only finish the beginner’s course—Open Water Diver. Mia first became interested in Scuba diving when she learned her mother took this course in high school. She decided to try diving too, and she wanted to reach a higher level than the beginner’s. However, children must be at least 10 years old to start training.
Starting on her 10th birthday, Mia got serious about Scuba diving. First, she got her Open Water Diver certificate (证书). After that, she faced a new challenge: she lives in Rhode Island, where the oceans are cold, and divers usually can’t see very far. But she didn’t let those stop her.
Mia worked very hard. Her diving teachers were very happy with her work. “When Mia decides to do something, nothing stops her,” said her instructor, Seamus Hastings.
Over the next two years, Mia learned many skills. She studied first aid (急救) and practised finding her way underwater. All divers need a buddy (搭档)for safety. Mia’s mother joined every course with her, becoming her diving buddy. Together, they did 78 dives—much more than the 50 needed.
Mia had to wait until she turned 12 for her final courses: Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver. In February, Mia’s family traveled to Mexico for her training. There, she did her first night dive. On her 12th birthday, she passed the Advanced Open Water course. The next day, she finished the Rescue Diver course.
The Rescue Diver test was very challenging. Mia did three dives in one day, including one deep dive down to 58 feet (17.5 meters). The hardest part of the course was showing that she could raise an injured (受伤的) diver to the top of the water and help the diver breathe again.
Mia feels very proud to become a Master Scuba Diver. But she doesn’t plan to stop there. She wants to get more diving training. In the future, she hopes to become a scientist and study sea animals.
27.When did Mia start her diving training
A.Before her 9th birthday. B.Right after her 10th birthday.
C.On her 11th birthday. D.After she turned 12 years old.
28.Why did Mia’s mother dive with her
A.Because Mia was too young to swim alone.
B.Because the courses needed family members.
C.Because Mia’s mother was interested in diving too.
D.Because divers need someone with them to stay safe.
29.What does Mia’s story mainly tell us
A.Liking something a lot is enough to be great at it.
B.People can reach big goals through hard work.
C.Being safe makes every adventure possible.
D.Family support is important for success.

A new and unusual way to relax has become popular in many Chinese cities. That is hugging trees. Young people take comfort from it. On weekends in parks, you might see people standing quietly with their arms around big trees, even talking to them softly.
Hundreds of people online share their tree-hugging experiences which make themselves less-stressed (紧张的) and worried. “After hugging an old pine tree for 10 minutes, my tiredness-disappeared,” wrote a college student on social media. In their opinion, it is a way of keeping a close relationship with the natural world. By hugging a tree, some of them feel that the tree is hugging them back. “The rough bark (树皮) feels like warm hands holding me,” said another young man.
One woman gave up her job because of too much work pressure (压力). According to her, hugging trees helps her a lot. She totally enjoys herself in hugging trees. Every morning, she visits a ginkgo tree (银杏树) near her home. “Hugging trees helps me calm down and lets me return to a natural state (状态). I feel so free and feel the world is so big: I have also become braver than before,” she said. Now she teaches others how to choose good trees for hugging.
Hugging trees is actually a kind of psychological therapy which first came from northern Europe. In those cold countries, people believe trees have healing power (治愈力量). A study has also shown that hugging can lead people to give off oxytocin (催产素). Oxytocin is able to create feelings of love and make people less stressed. Doctors say just 5 minutes of tree-hugging can make your heart beat slower.
While tree-hugging has been shown to be helpful for people’s body and mind, there are many points we should pay attention to before we do that.
30.What is the main purpose of this passage
A.To explain why trees are important.
B.To introduce a new way of relaxing.
C.To teach people how to protect trees.
D.To encourage people to exercise more outdoors.
31.How did the writer explain the benefits of tree-hugging in paragraph 3
A.By comparing different ideas.
B.By using a personal story.
C.By asking questions.
D.By drawing pictures.
32.What does the word “therapy” mean in paragraph 4
A.A way of treatment.
B.A kind of sport.
C.A special game.
D.A type of food.
33.Who in the following would most probably hug trees according to the passage
A.A woman who usually feels relaxed.
B.A man who wants to relax his mind and body.
C.A teenager who has a strong and healthy body.
D.A kid who depends on his or her parents greatly.
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
阅读表达(第34一36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
After school, Emma sits at her desk ready to study, but her eyes feel heavy and her mind is not clear at all. She spent all day in classes and got dinner ready for the family. Like Emma, many students and adults feel this way every day. They hurry from morning until night with school, jobs, and family tasks. It seems there is no time to stop and rest or think quietly. This is why the Gap Hour idea is becoming popular in many places.
A Gap Hour means taking one full hour each day to stop all work and stay away from phones or computers. It is not time for video games or social media, but for quiet and easy activities. You might sit under a tree, watch clouds move slowly, or listen to soft and calm music. The important thing is to do nothing that needs hard thinking or makes you feel tired or stressed (焦虑的).
Scientists have studied why Gap Hour helps. Research from Stanford University shows our brains (大脑) lose attention after ninety minutes of work Another study in Japan showed that looking at trees or grass for just fifteen minutes lowers (降低) stress and helps people feel better. These facts tell us that rest is not just a break from work, but a needed and healthy part of how our minds stay clear and strong.
Taking a quiet hour lets tired minds get better. It also helps lower bad feelings like worry or anger that build up during busy days. Sometimes, in this calm time, people find new ideas or see problems in a different way. This shows that rest can help our brains work better, not worse.
Some people say, “I do not have time,” or “Resting is doing nothing helpful.” But think about this: A phone works better after it gets power. Players do better after breaks. Students also need rest to do well. Without it, people make more mistakes and feel worse inside.
Starting a Gap Hour is simple. Choose the same time each day. Find a quiet place at home or outside. Tell others not to talk to you. Try slow things like drinking tea, drawing, or lying down with your eyes closed.
So, what would happen if everyone tried this idea Maybe one quiet hour can help us all feel and do better every day.
34.What do students and adults do from morning until night
35.What does a Gap Hour mean
36.What happens after ninety minutes of work in the Stanford University study

An Unforgettable Sports Experience
Last term, our school held a running competition. I joined it because running is my favorite sport. I had trained for two weeks and felt confident.
However, during the race, I felt tired and my legs hurt. I fell behind and wanted to give up. Just then, my classmates cheered me on and gave me courage. I kept running and didn’t lose heart. Finally, I crossed the line. I didn’t win first prize, but I finished.
This experience taught me: sports are not just about winning, but about challenging myself and enjoying the process. I will never forget this experience.
