Everyone wants to be happy, but what is the real secret of happiness Scientists and psychologists have studied this question for many years. Here are some of their findings.
Help Others
One of the easiest ways to feel happy is to help others. When you do something nice for someone, your brain produces a chemical called dopamine, which makes you feel good. Even small acts of kindness, like helping a classmate with homework or smiling at a stranger, can bring you happiness.
Be Grateful
Another way to be happy is to appreciate what you have. You can write down three things you are thankful for every day, such as a sunny day, a good meal, or time with friends. Studies show that grateful people are usually happier.
Spend Time with Friends and Family
People who have strong relationships with family and friends are often happier than those who don’t. Talking, laughing, and sharing your feelings with them can make you feel loved and supported.
Enjoy the Little Things
Happiness doesn’t always come from big achievements. Sometimes, it’s the small things that matter most. Listening to your favorite song, playing with a pet, or enjoying a warm cup of tea can all bring joy to your life.
Stay Active
Exercise is not just good for your body—it’s also great for your mood. When you play sports or take a walk, your body releases endorphins, which help reduce stress and make you feel happier.

A.It makes you feel tired. B.It makes you feel good.
C.It makes you feel sad. D.It makes you feel angry.
25.What does the passage say about happiness and small things

We all know how to enjoy our food. However, have you thought of what happens after a dish has been served to the diner The ideal (理想的) picture would be this: the chef sees his hard work being rewarded (回报) when the plates are empty after the meal. Sadly, things are not like that. You can see unfinished food on plates left on the tables almost every day.
My dear students, this is not good. It shows that little thought has been put in stopping food wastage (浪费).
Let’s learn from a chef in a Japanese restaurant who says that he will always respect (尊重) the fish he cooks. Why Simply because he knows the dangers which the fisherman always faces in order to bring the fish to him. Therefore, by not wasting any part of the fish, and by cooking excellently every time, the chef is respecting the fisherman’s work.
Similarly, we should respect our food more. Just think of the poor and homeless who have not eaten for days because of a war or a natural disaster. Think. Wouldn’t it be good if we shared our food, instead of throwing away what we can’t finish
Now, the Environmental Club would like our students to help people in need. Instead of buying lots of food you might not be able to finish, buy a small amount; you can also take food from home. Give some of your pocket money to the Club so we could buy some food or biscuits to give to the needy; or, you could give some of these food to the Club if you have any at home.
So, I hope to see every one of you playing your part to stop food wastage. Respect your food and share the joy of living well through giving food to those in need.
27.Why does the writer tell us the story of the chef in the Japanese restaurant
A.Because the chef was a fisherman in the past. B.Because the chef is famous for cooking fish.
C.Because he wants us to learn from the chef. D.Because he wants us to go to the restaurant.
28.What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about
A.What students can do for people in need. B.What kind of food students should buy.
C.Ways to get some pocket money. D.Ideas on cooking meals at home.
29.What is the best title for the passage
A.Start a Food Club B.Respect Our Food
C.Share with Others D.Enjoy Every Meal
D
Does happiness matter People have different opinions. Some think there are more important things to worry about, while others believe happiness is what everyone wants in life. To understand this, we first need to understand what happiness really means.
Happiness is about our feelings, but it’s more than just a short moment of smiles or laughter. Instead, happiness is how we feel about our lives overall. Every day, we feel many different emotions. For example, feelings like fear and anger help protect us from danger, while happy feelings like joy and hope help us make friends and solve problems. Being happy doesn’t mean we should never feel sad or angry. Everyone has difficult times, and it’s normal (正常的) to have these feelings. True happiness means enjoying good times while also learning to deal with hard times.
Research shows happiness plays an important role in success. Some might think happy people are less hardworking, but research shows the opposite is true. They actually perform (表现) better in their jobs, maintain better health, and build stronger relationships. In one study at Warwick University, scientists put participants (参与者) into two groups. The first group watched a happy, funny video while the second group watched a normal video. After watching, both groups did the same office task. The results showed that the first group did their tasks 11% better than the second one.
Other researchers have found similar results. For example, business researchers studied companies for many years and found that companies with happier workers always did better in the market. Also, when scientists followed young people for many years, they saw that those who were happier in childhood usually were more successful when they grew up than those who were less happy. One of the reasons is that happiness can wake up the control center in children’s brains, to help weigh options more clearly, like choosing “study first, play later” instead of wasting time. In other words, happiness may lead to success, not just come from it.
Of course, happiness doesn’t solve all problems. Happy people still have difficulties, and not all happy people are successful. But happiness does make life better in many ways. In the end, happiness is more than just a feeling. It helps us succeed, makes society stronger, and gives life its real meaning.
30.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2
A.Happiness is not only a moment of joy. B.What the true meaning of happiness is.
C.It is natural to have different feelings. D.Happiness is about people’s feelings.
31.What does the expression “the opposite is true” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Happiness is good for relationships. B.Hard work makes people successful.
C.Happy people could do better work. D.Success leads to better health.
32.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A.Happy workers did 11% more work than less happy ones.
B.A happy childhood can ensure a happier life in adulthood.
C.Happiness makes people overcome the bad feelings.
D.Happiness can help people make better decisions.
33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To discuss different people’s ideas about happiness.
B.To compare happy people with others in research.
C.To tell us that success is the key to happiness.
D.To show that happiness is important for success.

Charlie Condell, an 18-year-old boy, has finished a bike trip around the world in just 318 days. He became the youngest British person to bike around the world.
To set a round-the-world biking trip record (纪录), a person must start and end in the same place and ride about 24,900 miles (40.072 kilometers). They are allowed to fly and take boats, but they must finish most of the trip on bikes.
Last July, Charlie left his home in Bristol, England. He was taking a year off before going to college and he liked the idea of the challenge (挑战).
He loved his bike and he named it “Colin”. Colin was very light, which made it easier for Charlie to put in long days with lots of miles. Some days Charlie rode as many as 125 miles (200 kilometers).
Charlie had many hard times. He didn’t have anyone travelling with him to help him. He carried his own gear (装备) and camped out most nights. He had to deal with rain, wind, bad drivers, and countless flat tyres (漏气的车胎). He says the trip taught him to believe in himself.
Charlie posted many pictures and notes of his trip on a website to record the trip, which shows a young man having the time of his life. He also made friends all along the way.
After biking over 10.998 miles (17,700 kilometers) through Europe, Asia, and Australia, something bad happened. He woke up one morning to find that his bike and all of his gear had been stolen (被偷). Charlie posted his story on the Internet. He soon had new clothes and a new bike with people’s help. He was on his way again.
Charlie went on his trip. Finally, on March 11, before his birthday, he returned to Bristol, England, where he started his trip nine months earlier.
Charlie will start college in the fall. For anyone planning to take on their own challenge, Charlie tells them. “Just step out of the door and keep on going till you’ve made it.”
