On their way,Amy saw a family walking on the sidewalk, wearing only light jackets. “They must be cold,”Amy thought. That gave her an idea. She could collect coats, hats and gloves for people who needed them. How could she get a lot of winter clothing?Amy decided to ask her teacher for help.

Do you like skiing? When it comes to skiing,we have to mention one person—Shan Zhaojian.
Shan was born in Tonghua in1938. When he was sixteen years old,China had begun to develop winter sports in its northeastern areas, and Tonghua formed its first cross-country ski team. Shan joined it.
However, conditions were really tough at that time. “We didn’t have basic equipment(设备). We had to make skis out of wood by ourselves. But I always believed we could do well,”he said. And that
was exactly what happened. From 1957 to 1960,Shan won 10 medals in different national competitions.
Because of injuries(受伤),Shan said goodbye to his role as a national skier at age 24,but he stayed close to the winter sport he loved. He served as a ski coach, leader of Chinese Ski Association and head
of Chinese Ski Team. He took it as his mission to spread winter sports among as many people as he could.
Even after his retirement(退休)in 1998,Shan didn’t forget his mission. He spent much time researching the history and culture of skiing,as well as giving public speeches and holding activities about ice and snow in schools across the country.“I hope to see more people take part in ice and snow sports,”he said.

Over the course of six years, scientists at Aarhus University in Denmark kept studying sperm whales(抹香鲸)in the Caribbean. They found that the animals communicated through special clicking noises. This call has never been found in Pacific whales.
Researchers studied the howls(嚎叫)of different species of wolves. They found that red wolves and Arctic wolves have howls that are different in pitch(音高). In other words, they have their own dialects.
Other animals that have been shown to have dialects include bats and dogs.
So how do animals develop their own dialects?According to Darcy Kelley from Columbia University, most animals learn their accent(口音)naturally. For example, macaques(猕猴)start speaking their dialect as soon as they are born. Scientists placed some macaques in a new environment where their playmates all spoke a different dialect. But the macaques still spoke their own dialect. Their environment had no influence on their communication.
However, some animals can change their accent according to their environment. Birds who live in cities develop different accents from those in the countryside. To deal with loud city noise, city birds’ tweets are high-pitched. These high-pitched tweets are easier to hear in noisy places.
“A proper accent is important to mating and warning the coming of enemies, which is the basis of survival,”Kelley said. A certain group of animals can’t risk changing their own dialect and learning a new one.
37.The sperm whales are mentioned to show that ▲ .
A.animals can communicate with each other
B.animals have different dialects
C.whales communicate by using clicking noises
D.sperm whales live only in the Caribbean
38.Why do researchers believe that wolves have dialects?
A.Because there are different species of wolves.
B.Because wolves live in different areas of the world.
C.Because wolves of different species howl at different pitches.
D.Because bats and dogs also have dialects.
39.Which of the following does Darcy Kelley believe?
A.Most animals start learning their dialects as soon as they are born.
B.Macaques can learn a new dialect when in a new environment.
C.The environment has an influence on animals’ dialects.
D.Some birds can change their accents to deal with loud noises.
40.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The development of animals’ dialects. B.The importance of animals’ dialects.
C.The differences between animals’ dialects. D.The disadvantages of animals’ dialects.
B)阅读短文,从短文后所给的A至F六个选项中选出五个能填入空白处的最佳选项。
We do eye exercises. We wear sunglasses. 41 But we usually forget another important part of our body—the ears.
Ears help us hear the world. But many things such as loud noise, can cause hearing loss. Once this happens,it's hard to get your hearing back. 42 Let's take a look together.
Keep your ears dry and warm.
Dry your ears with a towel after swimming or taking a bath. If you feel water in your ear, shake your head a little bit. 43
Also, when the sun is shining, wear some sunscreen(防晒霜)on your ears. During the winter, protect your ears with a hat or a scarf.
44
Usually, our ears clean themselves. The earwax(耳屎)builds up,dries out,and then comes out of the ear along with some dirt.
Don't clean your ears with anything sharp,or it can make the earwax go too deep into your ears and hurt them. But if your ears start to hurt, you can go to a doctor for help.
How to use headphones?
45 Follow the 60∶60 rule:listen to music at 60 percent of your headphones' maximum volume(最大音量)for no more than 60 minutes a day. Over-the-ear headphones are better than in-ear-ones. They do a better job of stopping outside noise so you can listen at a lower volume.
A.How to clean your ears? B.So how can we protect our ears? C.People do a lot to protect their eyes. D.We do lots of things to protect our eyes. E.This can help you get the water out of your ear. F.Don't listen to loud music on your headphones for a long time.
