1.A.employed B.helped
C.chose D.beat
2.A.credit B.way
C.place D.support
解析 A 根据下文“The team needed his knowledge of the Inuit...the physical hardships of my Arctic work”可知,该团队需要Henson知道的因纽特人方面的知识,而且Henson能流利地讲他们的语言。 故选A。
3.A.academic B.technical
C.comprehensive D.communicative
4.A.Mild B.Fresh
C.Scary D.Biting
5.A.dangerous B.ordinary
C.temporary D.challenging
解析 B 根据下文“We could even lose fingers or toes.”
6.A.wrap B.lift
C.warm D.put
解析 C 根据上文“When anyone's foot began to freeze, another man held the bare foot against his stomach”可知,当有人的脚要冻僵时,另一个人把那只脚光脚抵在肚子上,这样做是为了使它暖和起来,故选C。
7.A.feel B.save
C.pick D.hold
8.A.plan B.pack
C.train D.budget
解析 A 根据空前的“After four journeys to the Arctic”可知,Peary已经有了四次尝试前往北极的经历,有一定的经验,所以知道怎样更好地计划(plan),故选A。
9.A.riches B.supplies
C.footprints D.messages

14.A.otherwise B.likewise
C.but D.still
