Fireworks causing air pollutionIn Southern California, New Year’s Eve fireworks caused problems, making the air in Los Angeles (LA) unsafe to breathe. Fireworks make the air dirty and are bad for health and the natural world. Fireworks can also start fires. Some areas, like the San Gabriel Mountains, are very dry and windy, meaning fires can spread quickly. The local government asked people not to use fireworks or anything that might make a fire. Students create a mini forest In the US, a group of students at a school are creating a “tiny forest” using something called the Miyawaki Method. They have planted 600 trees in an area as small as a tennis court (球场). The method is named after a Japanese botanist (植物学家), Akira Miyawaki. The idea for the tiny forest started when the students’ social studies teacher, Mr Walsh, learned about it on a BBC radio program in 2021. Now, after almost four years, the trees have grown to about 20 feet tall. ▲ Artists and writers can now use Mickey and Minnie Mouse freely. But there are some rules. This change is for the old versions (版本) of Mickey, like the black-and-white Mickey from Steamboat Willie. The Walt Disney Company still controls the later versions of Mickey, like Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia. Also, Disney has a special mark on Mickey, so nobody else can use it like they do. Do you ever feel like your study habits just don’t work Do you wonder what you could do to perform better in class or in exams Then maybe you need to study smarter, not harder. Here are some useful tips for you:
Reading is not studying.
Simply reading texts or notes is not really getting into the material. Effective (有效的) studying is the process of making meaning from the text. This includes making connections to lessons, forming examples and planning your own learning. All of the work will help you to really study for your courses.
It’s good to be intensive.
You will achieve more if you study intensively. Intensive study times are short and allow you to get work done with the least time and effort. In fact, one of the best study methods is to break up your study time into different parts. Intensive study times can last 30 or 45 minutes and include active studying methods. And then take a break. This way, you are much more likely (可能) to stay focused and better remember the information.
Silence isn’t always golden.
Know where you study best. The library may not be the best place for you. It’s important to consider what environment works best for you. You might find that you focus better with some background noise. Some people find that listening to classical music while studying helps them focus, while others find this is awful for them. The point is that the silence of the library may be just as bad as (or worse than) the noise of a sports center.
24.Why does the writer ask two questions in Paragraph 1
A.To compare different study habits.
B.To introduce the topic of the passage.
C.To help find out your learning problems.
25.What should you do to better study for your courses
A.Do a lot of reading practice.
B.Repeat the texts and notes.
C.Make smart learning plans.
26.Which of the following belongs to intensive study
A.Tom did test papers for two hours without taking a break.
B.Jack read for 40 minutes with a 10-minute break in between.
C.Mary continued doing her homework from 7 pm to 9:30 pm.
27.According to the last paragraph, what may the writer agree with
A.A quiet environment is good for study.
B.Noise can cause students to lose focus.
C.A bit noise while studying is not so bad.
28.In which part of a website can we read this passage most probably
A.CULTURE B.EDUCATION C.TECHNOLOGY

53.例文
Dear teachers and fellow students,
Good morning! My speech topic is “Side by Side in Spreading Culture”. My favorite Chinese traditional culture is calligraphy. It is not only beautiful writing, but also a deep art form showing Chinese wisdom. I carry it forward by practicing it regularly. I learn from teachers and also share my works online. Last Spring Festival, I wrote couplets for my neighbors. They loved it! I expect teenagers around me to learn more about traditions like calligraphy, paper-cutting, or festivals. We can practice them, tell stories about them to friends, and use social media to spread their beauty.
Let’s work side by side to keep our culture alive! Thank you!
