Career Dreams and Growing Pains
Growing up is a journey with both pains and gains. I have a clear career dream and also meet some growing pains in my life.
My career dream is to be a nurse. When I was ill last year, nurses took good care of me, which made me want to help others. However, I’m afraid of seeing blood—this is my growing pain. To overcome it, I read medical books and volunteered at a community clinic.
Now, I’m not afraid anymore. I’ve gained courage and responsibility. I know that growing pains help us grow. I’ll keep working hard to realize my dream. What is your career dream Please share with me!

Friendships are wonderful, but sometimes friends argue with each other. Maybe it can be hard to know what to do in such situations, so we have some advice for you.
Make up with your friend
To make up with a friend after an argument, it’s important to talk things out with your friend:
Set a time to talk—When you and your friend are both calm, set a time to talk.
Be open—Let your friend share his or her feelings and thoughts.
Apologize—Say you’re sorry if you said or did anything wrong in the argument.
Fix things together—Discuss how to stop such situations from happening again.
Change yourself
When a friendship doesn’t go well, you may feel sad or angry. Here are some ways to deal with these feelings:
16.What’s the text about
A.How to fix problems with friends. B.How to stop arguing with parents.
C.How to make new friends at school. D.How to keep happy in our daily life.
17.When should you talk to your friend after an argument according to the text
A.Before we leave school. B.When both of us are calm.
C.After I talk with my teachers. D.As soon as the argument finishes.
18.What should we do if we feel sad or angry after an argument with a friend
A.Find out others’ mistakes. B.End the friendship at once.
C.Take up some new hobbies. D.Keep the feelings to ourselves.
B
Peer pressure is a common experience for many teens. It means doing something just because you don’t want to be left out by your friends. Sometimes it can be good—like encouraging you to study harder or join a sports club. But often, it makes you feel bad for being different from others.
Colin, a middle school student, knows this well. His hobby is knitting (编织), which many of his classmates think is “unusual”. Some even laugh at him, and not all his friends accept his hobby. Most of his friends prefer activities like playing soccer or spending time on screens. Colin feels lonely and wonders if he should give up knitting to fit in.
Hannah, who helps teens with problems, shares a story about her friend. He has loved dancing ballet since he was a kid. At school, other kids made fun of him for his hobby. But he didn’t give up. He kept practicing hard, and now he is very successful. Surprisingly, he is thankful to those kids—their jokes pushed him to work harder.
Hannah’s advice for Colin and other teens is simple: Don’t let peer pressure control you. Be proud of who you are and your hobbies. Try sharing your hobby with friends—they might understand you better. Remember, being different is not a bad thing; it’s what makes you special.
19.What is Colin’s hobby that his classmates don’t accept
