[1]Today was my first day back in San Francisco after camping in the Redwood Forest and visiting the wine country of Napa Valley.[2]I have to admit① that it definitely② feels good to be back in the city again. And what a city — a city that was able to rebuild itself after the earthquake that occurred③in 1906.[3]There are so many beautiful old buildings — many sitting on top of big hills, offering great views of the city, the ocean, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
My hotel is near downtown④, in the Mission⑤ District⑥, one of the oldest parts of the city. Many of the people living here are from Mexico or Central America. This district used to⑦ be a poor area of town, but is now a centre for art, music, and food.In fact⑧, an art movement called the “Mission School” started here. It’s influenced by graffiti art and comic⑨ art.I walked around looking at the street art for a few hours. It was quite modern and lively.Afterwards⑩, I ate some delicious Mexican-Chinese noodles from a food truck.A real mix of cultures here!
[2]it是形式主语,真正的主语是动词不定式短语to be back in the city again。
[3]many sitting on top of big hills为独立主格结构, offering ...
In the afternoon, I headed to a local museum that showed the historical changes in California.I learnt that America got California from Mexico in 1848.In the same year, gold was discovered near San Francisco, which started a gold rush.[4]Over 300,000 people came from all over the world to seek their fortune, and San Francisco quickly became a big city. Many Chinese arrived during this period. To earn a living, some opened up shops and restaurants in Chinatown. Many others found jobs on farms, joined the gold rush, or went to build the railway that joined California to the eastern region of the country.[5]The museum did a really good job of showing how America was built by immigrants from different countries and cultures. When these immigrants left their countries, they carried a bit of home in their hearts, and built a new home here.
This evening, I went to Chinatown.[6] There were so many good cafés and restaurants to choose from.I selected a Cantonese restaurant that served its food on beautiful china plates. What great food!
That’s enough for today.Tomorrow evening, I’m going to a jazz bar in the Richmond District. Can’t wait !

(2024·山东六校高一下月考)In the professional or career world, a gap year is when one stops their formal work life to pursue other interests, generally unrelated to their regular line of work. However, today gap year refers mostly to a year taken between high school and college.
During this gap year, American students engage in advanced academic courses, extra-academic courses and non-academic courses, such as year-long pre-college maths courses, language studies, learning a trade, art studies, volunteer work, travel, internships (实习工作), sports and more.
British and European students, however, take a much more vacation-style approach to the gap year by generally working for 3-6 months and then traveling throughout the globe for the remaining time before college begins. This is intended to expand the mind, personal confidence, experiences, and interests before college.
Let’s look at the gap year in the following countries:
Denmark
Denmark has sought to limit the number of students who take a year out, penalizing students who delay their education to travel abroad or work full-time.In 2006, it was announced that fewer students than before had taken a year out.
India
In India, the practice of taking time out after high school education, popularly called a drop year, has been on a quick rise in recent years, primarily students deciding to enroll in coaching institutions to prepare themselves for rigorous college entrance examinations. However, utilizing that year off for travel or non-academic courses etc.is still not common.
Republic of Korea
In Republic of Korea, gap year is defined as time for the youth to think about directions of their lives by going through gap year programs such as voluntary activities, career exploration, education, having a relationship, internship and enterprise while he or she pauses studying.
United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom a year out is a common choice before university, again to travel or volunteer, gaining life experience. All universities seem to welcome gap year applicants, no different from going straight to university from previous education.

(2024·郑州高一下期末)The crowd at the Troubadour club didn’t pay much attention to the piano player quietly singing onstage. The twenty-three-year-old singer’s record company had worked hard to get many important people in the music business to come to the Los Angeles club and hear its new discovery.
But on this August night in 1970, most of the audience was much more famous than the man onstage. They talked to one another and looked to see who else would walk in the door. They weren’t very interested in this plain Englishman who wore glasses.Although he wore a “rock-and-roll” T-shirt and jeans, he looked more like a salesman than a rock star.
Elton John had thought it was a mistake to come to America. He had been struggling for years in England to get people to pay attention to him.He had written songs for other performers. He had played and sung in bands behind other singers. He had been waiting a long time for his big break. And now it seemed as if no one would ever notice him.
Suddenly, he had had enough. All the frustration from his years of being stuck in the background boiled over.He jumped up, kicked over his piano stool, and shouted,“If you won’t listen, perhaps you’ll bloody well listen to this.”
He started playing again, standing at the piano. But this time he pounded away at the keys.He sang loudly and confidently. It was the way he had pictured himself performing when he was a little boy in England, listening to American rock and roll on the radio.
And the audience paid attention. They heard blues, rock, and country music. Each song told its own fantastic story.Everyone knew they were hearing something special.

Liverpool, my hometown, is a unique city.It is so unique that in 2004 it became a World Heritage Site.
I recently returned to my home city and my first stop was at a museum on the River Mersey.Blanketed in mist, Victorian architecture rose from the banks of the river, responded to the sounds of seabirds, and appeared unbelievably charming. When I headed towards the centre, I found myself surrounded by buildings that mirror the best palaces of Europe. It is not hard to imagine why, on first seeing the city, most visitors would be overwhelmed by the beauty of the noble buildings, which are solid signs of Liverpool’s history.
As if to stress its cultural role, Liverpool has more museums and galleries than most cities in Britain. At Walker Art Gallery, I was told that it has the best collections of Victorian paintings in the world, and is the home of modern art in the north of England. However, culture is more than galleries.Liverpool offers many music events. As Britain’s No.1 music city, it has the biggest city music festival in Europe, and its musicians are famous all over the world.Liverpool is also well known for its football and other sports events.Every year, the Mersey River Festival attracts thousands of visitors, making the city a place of wonder.
As you would expect from such a city, there are restaurants serving food from around the world. When my trip was about to complete, I chose to rest my legs in Liverpool’s famous Philharmonic pub.It is a monument to perfection, and a heritage attraction itself.

5G will be the lifeblood of the new economy.Self-driving cars, virtual reality, smart cities and networked robots will all be powered by 5G networks.
Like every “next generation” wireless network technology, 5G will give your phone a speedier connection — up to 100 times faster than 4G.9.( ) On 4G, it would take six minutes.5G’s extra bandwidth will make service more reliable, allowing more devices to connect to the network at the same time.
10.( ) Sensors, computers, cars, robots, and other new technology will all connect to 5G one day.Today’s 4G networks don’t have the bandwidth for the vast amounts of data all those devices will transmit.
To accomplish all that, much of the 5G network will travel over super-high-frequency airwaves. These higher frequencies bring faster speeds and more bandwidth.11.( ) That means wireless companies will need to install thousands — perhaps millions — of small cell towers on top of lamp posts, on the side of buildings and inside homes.
12.( ) In buildings and in crowded areas, 5G might provide a speed boost, but 4G will still be used to cover wider areas for the time being.
5G networks will also reduce the latency (延迟), or lag time, between devices and the servers they communicate with to virtually zero.Zero latency can allow self-driving cars to process all the information they need to make life-or-death decisions in the blink of an eye.13.( ) Those innovations will only be possible if the communication between a network and a device is seamless (无缝的).

Step 1
WELCOME TO CHINATOWN!
The Chinatown in San Francisco is the biggest in America, and also the oldest. It is a very popular tourist draw that receives more visitors each year than even the Golden Gate Bridge. The climate is mild all year round, meaning it is always a good time to visit.
Historically, Chinese immigrants settled in the area during the railroad construction and gold rush period. What started as a residential area for Chinese immigrants then turned into a centre for Chinese culture. The majority of residents in Chinatown are still ethnic Chinese, many of whom do not speak English fluently. This allows visitors to experience a real taste of China.
Most of Chinatown was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, but the city and residents rebuilt it, taking care to include lots of Chinese architecture.Traditionally, visitors enter Chinatown through the legendary Dragon Gate, which was built using materials donated from China.Other famous sites include the Tin How Temple and Bank of Canton, to name but a few.Visitors can also spend hours just exploring the interesting sights, smells, and sounds of China.Portsmouth Square is also a key site, being the centre of Chinatown. It has a long and famous history, with the author Robert Louis Stevenson having spent much time writing there. These days, the square is a great place to see traditional Chinese culture in real life, such as games of Chinese chess, and people practising tai chi.
The stores in the Chinatown offer a unique range of souvenirs, goods, and clothing. All kinds of traditional Chinese herbal medicine can be found, too, and there are Chinese tea stores, where visitors can taste and buy varieties of Chinese tea.
But perhaps what many tourists and San Franciscans treasure most about Chinatown is its food. There is Chinese food to suit everyone’s taste, with traditional dishes from all over China.
Chinatowns are an important part of the diverse culture of the USA.They allow visitors who have never been to China to experience traditional Chinese culture first hand.

(2024·茂名高一下质检)One study found that 300 languages are spoken in London’s schools.London’s status as the multi-lingual (多语种) capital of the world is both an honour and a challenge.Harmony in such a multi-cultural community can only be maintained when everyone can easily communicate with each other. The English language is the glue (胶水) that holds us all together.
Life for anyone who comes to London, whether it is for work, study or play will be much easier if they have a basic grasp of English.Indeed, it is not just desirable but in many cases it is now mandatory.
A recent change in immigration law requires that most people will need to prove that their English is good enough to allow them to study or work in the UK.
This is the service provided by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which is one of the world’s leading and most-widely accepted English language tests.
If you come from outside the EU, and unless you are a research scientist or successful businessman, you will need to pass a language proficiency (水平) test in order to be able to study or work here.
Carl Rhymer is head of IELTS at the British Council.“IELTS has grown with the growing importance of English, which is spoken by about two billion people.English is spoken more by non-native speakers than it is by native speakers,” says Carl.
“We recognise that it is an international language and I don’t think you can say that British English is the real English,” insists Carl.“We’ve developed a test that allows people to measure themselves against a set of standards. We’re not standard-setters ourselves. The beauty of English is that it develops not just within the country but also the influences that come from outside.”
Someone who is coming to the UK to study may only need to achieve a band five score, while someone coming here to work as a medical doctor must demonstrate that they have excellent English and therefore they will need to score an eight or nine.

On behalf of my class, I’m writing to invite you to give us a talk on British and American culture.

I do hope you’ll accept our invitation.I’m looking forward to your reply at your earliest convenience.
Yours,
Li Hua
The continuous knock on the door brought me quickly from my kitchen.I hurried to answer.
We had just moved into the neighbourhood and I couldn’t imagine who it would be.Opening the door, I saw an old man dressed in dirty clothing. From his hand hung a torn plastic bag.
“Can I help you?” I asked, hoping he had the wrong address.
“Would you like to buy some fresh garden vegetables?” he said.
“Are they from your garden?” Looking inside his bag, I saw mostly dirt, with several carrots.
“Yes.” His voice was soft.“And I can get some apples from a tree in my yard.Would you like some of those, too?”
My heart softened, and I wondered if he really needed the bit of money he was asking for his produce.
I asked him in,“Please step inside and I’ll get my wallet.”
The next day, he knocked at our door again. This time, my little four-year-old Heidi got there first,“Oh, hello.Would you like to come in for tea?”
Without hesitating, the old man stepped inside and held out a broken basket with several apples resting at the bottom.
“You might like to make a pie,” he said.
There was no mistaking the wistful (渴望的) look in his eyes.
We sat at the kitchen table and drank our tea.Great excitement at hosting a visitor was obvious in my three children’s never-ending stream of questions.“What is your name? Where do you live? Why are your clothes so dirty?”
The homeless-looking man laughed as he answered each question. His name was Mr Locket and he lived around the corner. His wife had passed away several years before, and his children lived far away.He was lonely. His need for companionship had sent him door to door under the ruse (计策) of selling fruit and vegetables.Ours was the only door opened to him that day.
Finally, the cookies were gone and he rose to his feet.On his way to the door, he turned and offered us a cheerful smile and a wave goodbye. He had promised to return tomorrow, and I knew what I wanted to do.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
The next day, the children excitedly waited for his visit.
The next day, we found a basket sitting on the step.
The next day, the children excitedly waited for his visit. The table was set with cups and dishes. The delicious smell of apple pies filled the house. As he entered the kitchen, his eyes were filled with tears.Pulling up a chair, he immediately seemed at home, and we watched with amazement as he ate up half the pies.“Your pies taste a lot better than mine!” he commented.I smiled and offered him a few tips on making pies.
The next day, we found a basket sitting on the step.Inside were several rosy apples.I made another pie that night. As the days passed, Mr Locket became a daily visitor to our active home.In his quiet and gentle way, he made himself popular with each child.I loved to look around the kitchen door and watch as he sat in our big chair with my children beside him, looking up at him with full attention as he read a children’s book or told a story.

(Text 1)
W:I tried to phone you yesterday.
M:Oh, sorry.I was busy all day and then I went to London in the evening for a meal with some friends.
W:Did you take your car?
M:I left it at home.Parking is such a problem. But the underground was closed for repairs so I had to take the bus.It was quite slow.
W:Did you go to your favourite Spanish restaurant?
M:I was hoping to try some Mexican food but my friends booked a table in a Chinese place.
W:Was it expensive?
M:Quite cheap actually, and the food was very good — but it’s only a small restaurant so a lot of people had to wait for tables — and it was quite noisy.
W:You didn’t stay there and talk afterwards then!
M:We went for a walk along the river.I had a really good evening.
(Text 2)
M:Hi, Julia.Do you like the Christmas carols we’re singing in choir this month?
W:Not really, to be honest.I’m really unfamiliar with most of them.In China, the carols we really know are Jingle Bells and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.I don’t really understand the words of any other ones.
M:Do you want me to explain the words to you? I think it’s important to understand the words you’re singing.
W:Yeah, that sounds great! Let’s start with We Wish You a Merry Christmas. What in the world is figgy pudding, and why are people asking for it?
M:That is a weird line! Figgy pudding is a traditional British Christmas dessert. It kind of looks like a cake. It’s not that common today, but people used to give a figgy pudding to each other at Christmas hundreds of years ago.
(Text 3)
W:Everything is ready. Please come to the dining room.
M:Wow, what a marvelous table you’ve got here! I’ve long heard Chinese dishes are well-known all over the world for their colour, aroma and taste.
W:I hope you like my cooking.
M:I think you are not only a good teacher but also a good cook.
W:Thanks for the compliment.Let’s begin with chicken which will bring luck to the guests, according to Chinese culture.
M:It sounds interesting. In that case, I’ll eat more.
W:Please help yourself to it.
M:Thanks.I like fried kidney best among Chinese food.
W:Have a try.
M:Well, it’s really unusual! It’s quite tender and delicious!
(Text 4)
W:If you’re listening to this, then you’re probably studying English.Maybe you speak a couple of other languages too.But what are the British like when it comes to learning languages? According to a survey published by the European Commission, the British are officially the worst language learners in Europe — 62 percent of them can’t speak any other language apart from their own. While 38 percent of Britons speak at least one foreign language, only 18 percent speak two.Learning a foreign language isn’t a popular option at school in Britain; children start studying a foreign language at the age of 11 and may give up completely at 14.
So, why don’t young people continue with languages at school? Research suggests that students think it is more difficult to get good grades in languages than in other subjects such as science or history. The government is now looking at different ways to improve language learning. One idea is to start much younger and introduce foreign languages from the age of five.Another plan is to give school children more choices and expand the range of languages taught to include Arabic, Mandarin and Urdu.

The two became distant when Ryan’s parents divorced, but then ran into each other 10 years later.Realising how much he liked his grandmother and missed that lost time, he made a plan to spend time with her.
About eight years ago, Ryan was telling Joy about his 2009 hike and many adventures living in the wilderness.“Her eyes softened and then she matter-of-factly said, ‘I regret that I didn’t get to see more things in life.It would have been nice to see the mountains,’” Ryan recalls.“My heart broke for her.”
It wasn’t until a few years later that the two took a trip to the Great Smoke Mountains. After a stressful work schedule, Ryan needed an escape to nature. So he invited his grandma to travel with him. They arrived late at night in the rain with Joy holding the umbrella while Ryan set up the tent.At 85, she had never slept in a tent before, but she climbed 2.3 miles on a trail, receiving high-fives all the way.
“It was a life-changing trip that provided more purpose than anything I had ever done,” Ryan said.“Two years later I set up a GoFundMe called Grandma Joy’s Road Trip in the spirit of making up for lost time and proving that you’re never too old to pack in a lifetime of adventure and travel.”
In the past four years, they’ve travelled more than 25,000 miles across 38 states. So far, they’ve visited 29 of the 61 US national parks, with much of the adventure documented on Instagram.

Different Cultures
The cultures of the East and the West really distinguish each other a lot.8.( )
The origin of the Eastern culture is mainly from two countries:China and India. Both of the two cultures are developed by rivers — the Yellow River in China and the Hindu River in India.9.( )
When the two mother rivers gave birth to the Eastern culture, another famous culture was brought up on the Mesopotamian Plain — the Mesopotamian Civilization. This civilization later on developed into the cultures of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.10.( ) Like the Chinese culture, the European culture also crossed waters. When the British settled down in America, their culture went with them over the Atlantic Ocean. So the American culture doesn’t distinguish from the European culture a lot.
11.( ) Take the language system for example. In the East, most languages belong to the pictographic language while the Western languages are mostly based on the Latin system.Other causes like human race difference count as well. But what’s more, due to the far distance and the steep areas between the East and the West, the two cultures seldom communicate until recent centuries. So they grew up totally in their own ways with almost no interference (干扰) from the other.
The differences are everywhere.12.( ) But different cultures make the world of the 21st century more colourful. The cultural gap should not be the obstacle to the civilization of human beings. It ought to be the motivation of our going farther.
A.Let us work together to keep a variety of cultures.
B.One important thing is to learn about other cultures.
C.And these two are well known as the base of the European culture.
D.At the same time, some other differences add to the cultural differences.
E.This is because the culture systems are two separate systems on the whole.
F.They helped the two cultures develop for centuries and form their own styles.
G.They are obvious and affect people’s ways of thinking and their views of the world.

W:So, how are you? How was your journey?

(Text 10)
M:Good afternoon, everyone! It’s my pleasure to share with you my colourful weekend.
I used to live a life in my screen and hardly noticed what was around me.I was always checking the time and thinking of “who’s going to text me now?” My bedtime routine was usually centered on one thing — my mobile phone. I looked through news websites and checked my emails. When I woke up at midnight, I did the same thing. The problem with me was that I felt anxious every night.
So when my friends invited me to the weekend camping without cell service in the village, I thought this was exactly what I needed.Keeping away from my phone for 48 hours changed my way of life.Without my phone, I fell asleep listening to the songs of frogs and insects. In the morning, I woke up energetically.Sitting by the river, riding a bike, or singing old songs, I truly enjoyed what I was doing.I felt free without my phone at the weekend camp, which changed me completely.I listened to what my body wanted instead of what my phone was telling me to do.

When Tonee Carter sits in front of a piano, his fingers take on a life of their own, dancing across the keys as he smiles, closes his eyes, and sinks into a melody.
Carter, 66, isn’t famous, but he does perform for an international audience nearly every day at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.Travelers lucky enough to hear him often find themselves attracted by his music.
That’s what happened to Carlos Whittaker, a motivational speaker who was traveling home to Tennessee.“As I was walking through the hall, I heard someone playing the piano,” Whittaker, 46, told CNN.
While listening to the music that seemed to effortlessly flow from Carter’s fingertips, Whittaker, the Instagram influencer also took videos of the musician and shared them with his more than 200,000 followers.
And Whittaker came up with an idea.“Suddenly I was like, what would happen if I asked my Instagram followers if we could give him the biggest tip he’s ever gotten,” he said.“As of this conversation, we had raised 61,000.”
Carter was just 6 years old when his father, also a pianist, took him to a Ray Charles concert. But Carter hasn’t had the easiest life.In fact, Carter has had serious kidney disease since 2008.
“I thought he was kidding, I just couldn’t believe it,” Carter told CNN.“This is the kind of the thing I do.I love giving and donating and helping people, but I never expected someone to do it for me.”
Whittaker has used his Instagram platform to raise funds for others in the past.Earlier this month, he and his followers raised 230,000 for Brooklyn To Alaska, a non-profit organization that sends urban teenagers on a transformative adventure to Alaska.
Carter plans to use the money to help people the way Whittaker has helped him.“That 61,000 is not mine. It’s money that’s going to go to others,” Carter said.“There is only one way to say thank you, because words aren’t enough. And that is to pay this forward.”

The key to understanding British humour is knowing not to take yourself too seriously. Our humour is to highlight our own mistakes. We make light of our failures so as to appear more approachable. There is no room for egos in British humour.Embarrassing moments are all well-established material with which to laugh at ourselves.
Example:“I couldn’t run a bath, let alone this race.I make snails look speedy.”
Brits are famous for being very, very polite, but a clear sign that a Brit likes you is if they happily “offend (冒犯)” you with the occasional tongue-in-cheek comment. They are delivered with a smiling face and no apology. It can be used to make light of differences with new friends in an attempt to spark conversation.
A vital aspect of mastering British humour is judging what the people you are with find funny.A tongue-in-cheek comment is not always appropriate. It’s all about making your humour suit the occasion and place.
Examples:“I can’t be friends with someone who doesn’t drink tea!” “I can’t be seen in public with a Manchester United supporter!”
Brits use humour to lighten even the most unfortunate, miserable moments. There are few subjects we don’t joke about. It’s not used to shock and offend.Instead, Brits turn to laughter as a form of medicine when life knocks them and those around them down.Misfortune and failure are common in British comedy — provided the jokes are in good taste. In most cultures, there is a time and place for humour. In Britain, this is not the case.
Example:“I tripped and fell over in front of everyone but at least I didn’t embarrass myself!”
Despite Britain’s reputation as a rather serious place, humour really is common in Britain — we are always looking to spice up our day by making the best of each funny moment.

A report says the shortage of skilled teachers in the United States is a bigger problem than people may think.
The not-for-profit, Washington-based Economic Policy Institute, or EPI, published the report last week.It was the first in a six-part series that aims to examine the causes of — and solutions for — the national teacher shortage in US public schools.Education experts have long been concerned about rising teacher shortages. The issue has grown more severe in recent years.
EPI’s report notes that less than 10 years ago, many teachers were looking for jobs. Then, in 2012, public schools were looking for teachers. That year, the country faced a shortage of 20,000 school teachers.By the 2017-2018 school year, the country was estimated to have a shortage of over 110,000 teachers.
However, EPI researchers Emma Garcia and Elaine Weiss argue that such estimates are still far too low. They say the estimates do not consider that many current teachers lack necessary training, experience and official approval to teach.
Garcia and Weiss found that, nationwide, one-third of teachers do not have an education background in the main subject that they teach. And, more than 20 percent have less than five years of teaching experience.About nine percent are teaching without the usual state certification.
The study found those numbers to be even greater in high-poverty schools — where more than half of students receive free or reduced-cost meals. In such schools, almost 40 percent of teachers do not have previous education in the main subjects they teach. And about one-quarter have little classroom experience.
More and more, qualified educators are either quitting or deciding not to enter the teaching field at all, the EPI report says. Many leave the field because of poor working conditions. They also object to low pay.The average yearly pay for public school teachers has fallen in recent years, even as the cost of living and other expenses continue to rise.

I couldn’t believe the day had finally come.My friends and I had been talking about it for what seemed like months.Every year our class will take a trip to the Sahara Campgrounds. As soon as you see the entrance sign, a sudden excited feeling runs through your body, knowing that a few days of complete relaxing from the usual busy and tiring school work is about to start.
Then on a sunny day in July of the year 2009, our whole class got on the bus and headed to our campground.I sat comfortably in between my best friends Rona and Tamara, while Nadia and Karin sat at the very back of the bus, and behind them sat my younger cousins Sarah and Salam. It was a little crowded indeed and looked like everyone was sitting on top of each other. After what seemed like forever, we got out and were greeted by the camp consular (助理) for instructions on how to set up our tents and how to protect ourselves from wild animals such as bears.
Once we finished putting up our tents, some of the girls started playing hide and seek while the others sat around the camp fire sharing stories and laughing. After starting our first campfire, I could feel the heat touching my face and the campfire smoke almost perfumed (使发香) my clothes. We would cook hot dogs, hamburgers, fish, corn on a cob, and everyone had their favourite foods. The students all took turns telling a scary story.Rona and Karin were screaming so loud it could have been heard from miles away. But, Nadia, Tamara and I, just sat quietly waiting for the next story.Evening came and everyone was getting ready for bed.Just few minutes after we turned to the lanterns, we heard loud shouting and screaming coming from outside our tent.

I looked out and saw a large black bear. All the students were scared of being attacked, and we sat quietly in our tents, watching the bear open the garbage truck and dump it out. Then, the large bear turned to our food containers and tried to open by lifting them over his head and then throwing them on the ground. What a terrible mess it was! Once the bear got all he needed, he left without hurting anyone, but destroying most of our food for the week.
At the end of the week we waved good-bye to the campgrounds. What impressed me most were the beautiful lake, great stories by the fire, the sweet smells of campfire food and the unwelcomed visitor — the large black bear.I realised that knowing how to protect ourselves in the case of a wild animal attack is very valuable knowledge.Having a slight feeling of sadness, I’d leave with a smile on my face, knowing I’d be back next year.
