Nurse shark is a common name for any shark in the family Ginglymostomatidae, which is made up of the genera Ginglymostoma, Nebrius, and Pseudoginglymostoma. In addition to the common Atlantic nurse shark (G. cirratum), the family includes the tawny (黄褐色的) nurse shark (N. ferrugineus) and the short tail nurse shark (P. brevicaudatum). A common description of the origin of the name nurse shark suggests that the sound they make when feeding at the surface resembles a nursing animal.
Distribution
The Atlantic nurse shark is a species that is abundant in the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, as well as on the west coast of Africa. It is the most likely species to be encountered in shallow nearshore tropical environments. They are considered bottom residents, and they commonly hide under coral reefs in tropical seas. Members of Ginglymostoma occur in the eastern Pacific and tropical Atlantic oceans, whereas Nebrius are concentrated in the western Pacific, and Pseudoginglymostoma are limited to the western Indian Ocean.
Predators and prey
Nurse sharks are generally bottom feeders, preferring crustaceans (甲壳纲动物) such as lobsters, crabs, and shrimp. They will feed on fish, though usually small, slower fish such as lizardfish. They are also known to feed on corals and shelled mollusks (软体动物) such as conchs. They are powerful suction (吸) feeders and can use their suction force to pull conchs from their shells or other prey items from holes in coral reefs.
Reproduction
Although reproduction is not well known for most nurse shark species, the process has been studied extensively in the wild in common Atlantic nurse sharks (G.cirratum). Atlantic nurse sharks, like many other shark species, are slow growing animals. Males become sexually mature at a length of 210 220 cm, while females must reach a length of 220 230 cm. Their slow growth means that they require 18 22 years to become sexually mature.

The auroras (极光)—the northern lights in the Northern Hemisphere, and the southern lights in the Southern Hemisphere—are brilliant natural spectacles that can be seen in the evening sky especially at higher latitudes. Unlike other phenomena of the night sky, such as meteors and comets, the auroras are atmospheric phenomena, but what causes them
Although auroras appear in the atmosphere, they are the result of extraterrestrial(外星的) forces; however, these forces are not particularly strange. The Sun's corona—the outermost region of the Sun's atmosphere, consisting of plasma (等离子体)—drives the solar wind away from the Sun. Some of these high energy particles strike Earth's magnetic field and follow magnetic field lines down into Earth's atmosphere at the North and South magnetic poles.
Earth's atmosphere is mostly made up of nitrogen and oxygen. Once the solar particles reach Earth's atmosphere, they crash with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen, stripping away their electrons to leave ions (离子) in excited states. These ions emit radiation at various wavelengths, creating the characteristic colors. Crashes of solar particles with oxygen produce red or green light; crashes with nitrogen produce green and purple light.
During periods of low solar activity—which are often associated with periods where the Sun has fewer sunspots—fewer of these high energy particles are emitted from the Sun, and the shimmering sheets of color that characterize Earth's auroral zones shift poleward. When the Sun is more active and larger amounts of plasma are erupting from the Sun's surface, more particles reach Earth's atmosphere, and the auroras occasionally extend to the middle latitudes. For example, the northern light has been seen as far south as 40° latitude in the United States. The auroras typically occur at altitudes of about 100 km; however, they may occur anywhere between 80 and 250 km above Earth's surface.
1.What can we learn from the first paragraph
A.Earth's atmosphere is composed of Oxygen and nitrogen.
B.Aurora is not common in high latitude regions.
C.Aurora is an atmospheric phenomenon.
D.Aurora is harmful to humans.
2.What causes the auroras
A.Oxygen reacts with nitrogen in the atmosphere.
B.The Sun's corona undergoes chemical change.
C.They are caused by aliens.
D.The solar particles collide with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen.
3.What is the CORRECT order of the following events
①Some high energy particles strike Earth's magnetic field.
②The Sun's corona drives the solar wind away from the Sun.
③The ions emit radiation, creating the characteristic colors.
④The solar particles crash with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen, leaving ions.
A.②①④③ B.②④③①
C.④②①③ D.④①③②
4.Which one is TRUE according to the last paragraph
A.The auroras may occur over 250 kilometers above the Earth's surface.
B.The auroras may be seen in the middle latitudes.
C.The solar activity is always active.
D.The auroras always occur at low altitudes.
B

Do you ever feel underappreciated or undervalued at work If you answered “yes”, then you're one of many. In a recent survey of over 1,000 full time employees in the United States, more than a half of respondents reported feeling only somewhat valued (46.4%) or not valued at all (10.7%) by their organization.
These findings support the research I conducted for my book, Job Therapy. Between 2023 and 2024, I surveyed over 2,400 workers around the world, spanning industries, job titles, and years of experience. Through this work, I learned that feeling underappreciated can come in many forms, but largely, it is primarily reflected in communication breakdowns between managers and team members.
Over 40% of my respondents said they had a hard time landing a promotion, and nearly 70% believed people at their current level were better compensated(补偿) at other companies. More importantly, 63% were confused about why, despite delivering on their goals, they weren't selected to take on bigger projects that might lead to growth opportunities. Among those who had failed to land a promotion or a raise in the past six months, a mere 7% were explicitly (明确地) told why. This absence of strong feedback led them to feel increasingly underappreciated in their roles.
Based on my findings, it's clear that leaders and managers can do more to help boost employee morale and relieve feelings of helplessness people may experience after being denied a promotion. They can start by bridging communication gaps around performance and clarifying the valuable roles their team members play in contributing to organizational goals.
Still, for employees who are in this position, waiting for that change to take place can be frustrating—especially for those who are already feeling underappreciated due to a lack of professional growth. If that employee is you, what can you do to empower yourself in this situation
5.What percentage of full time employees in the US felt somewhat valued and not valued at all
A.46.4%. B.10.7%.
C.57.1%. D.70%.
6.What were the main reasons people felt undervalued
A.Salary differences between companies.
B.Difficulties in getting promotions.
C.The impact of organizational goals on employees.
D.Communication breakdowns in the workplace.
7.Why did 63% of the respondents feel confused about not being selected for bigger projects
A.Because they lacked the necessary skills.
B.Because they were not performing well enough.
C.Because they were not given clear feedback on their performance.
D.Because they were not willing to take on additional responsibilities.
8.What will be discussed in the following paragraph
A.What to do to get the company's appreciation.
B.How to get promoted.
C.How to get on well with other employees.
D.How to overcome your shortcomings.

At just 28, Heitor Santos has managed to make his way in an industry with a great prospect for future growth, serving as a link between Brazil, his country of origin, and China, where he currently resides.
Like many expats(旅居国外者), Santos' connection with China developed gradually and, at first, with little idea of what the future would hold. It all began when he was a senior year student of biological sciences at the University of Pernambuco in the Brazilian city of Recife. The university had a special cooperation program with the Confucius Institute, giving students the opportunity to study Chinese for free for one year.
“Learning languages, especially Asian languages, had always caught my attention,” said Santos, who is from the historic town of Olinda in Pernambuco State, northeast Brazil. So he enrolled in the course and quickly started researching the Chinese language and culture, fueled by his curiosity. He found himself enchanted (着迷) by his first class, especially by his teacher's stories about his travels in China. Santos explained one of the reasons why he had taken his language studies so seriously was that he wanted to be able to better communicate with his teachers at the Confucius Institute. In class, they maintained a formal relationship between teachers and students, but outside of the classroom, they were friends. “I wanted to lift my language levels to speak directly to their hearts,” he said.
All of these experiences eventually motivated him to apply for a study abroad scholarship, so he arrived in Beijing in mid 2018. For Santos, Beijing was the most convenient option as his university in Brazil had a partnership with the Central University of Finance and Economics in the Chinese capital. Several Brazilian students had already gone there before him and their positive experiences inspired him to take the leap.

It would seem common sense to believe that “practice makes perfect”, but is that the only thing that affects whether or not someone is good at a particular sport Can you be “born good”?
In recent years, there has been significant rise in the use of DNA testing among sports teams, coaches and athletes. It is a widely controversial topic, but from a scientific standpoint the idea of accessing genetic information to predict sporting ability is an exciting prospect.
Each of us has an individual, distinct and unchangeable DNA structure that affects us in very different ways. Some of us are good at running, some of us are unable to process gluten (谷蛋白) and some of us get incredible severe hangovers (宿醉) from the smallest drop of alcohol. However, just having the right DNA doesn't necessarily help when it comes to living your life or improving your abilities. It's understanding your DNA and how it affects you that enables top athletes to capitalise on their genetic trends and in turn, develop their physical abilities.
But what if you don't have the financial means to test your genes
A free way to assess and improve your athletic prowess is to adapt your training to suit your current physical form, or, somatotype.
A somatotype is another term for “body type” and according to the Heath Carter formula, there are three clearly defined somatotypes called ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph. Although there are three definable types, people are almost always a combination of the three. Plus, individuals can often train their bodies making it possible to convert back and forth between the different types.
5.What is the function of the two questions in paragraph 1
A.To capture the readers' interest.
B.To introduce the topic to be discussed.
C.To explain the background.
D.To put forward an argument.
6.What does the underlined word “controversial” mean in paragraph 2
A.Acknowledged. B.Established.
C.Questioned. D.Undoubted.
7.What can be used for top athletes to develop their physical abilities
A.Having the right DNA.
B.Doing regular exercise.
C.Checking DNA regularly.
D.Understanding DNA and how it affects them.
8.What will probably be discussed in the next paragraph
A.How to switch between the three somatotypes.
B.What a somatotype is.
C.How to prove that a person has three somatotypes.
D.How somatotypes affect sporting ability.
