For thousands of years, the mystery of how the pyramids were built in the huge Sahara Desert has left scientists scratching their heads (苦思冥想), but now they think they’ve found the answer.
A team of scientists from the University of North Carolina, USA, believe that 31 of the pyramids, including the famous Great Pyramid of Giza, were probably built along a part of the River Nile that has been lost for a long time.
For years, scientists have thought that ancient Egyptians used a waterway nearby, but Eman Ghoneim, who led the study, says nobody was certain about the location of it.
The team used special technology, historical maps and samples (样本) from the ground to find the hidden part of the River Nile under the sand. They believe this was used to transport (运输) heavy stones and tools to build the pyramids. But over time, sandstorms covered it and it dried up.
This hidden part of the River Nile is called “Ahramat”, which means “pyramids” in the Arabic language. It’s thought it was about 39 miles long and between 200 and 700 meters wide. Before it got covered in sand, this river was next to the pyramids built between 4,700 and 3,700 years ago.
The team says discovering this lost part of the river helps explain why there are so many pyramids in such a challenging desert place. It’s like solving a big puzzle (不解之谜) from long ago!

A.Who built the pyramids.
B.How the pyramids were built in the desert.

26.What was the use of the hidden part of the River Nile
A.To transport materials to build the pyramids.
B.To keep the pyramids wet.
C.To provide drinking water for pyramid builders.
27.What does the writer mainly want to show us in the last paragraph
A.How clever ancient Egyptians were.
B.How difficult it was to build the pyramids.
C.The importance of the discovery.

There is a famous English saying, “You are what you eat.” It means that what you put in your mouth will become part of you. Many experts use it to tell people it’s important to have a good eating habit. For example, too much sweet food makes a person overweight. To avoid being too heavy, kids are told to keep away from sweet food. However, a team of American scientists have found something new about eating sweet food. “When we say someone is ‘sweet’, we mean they are kind and friendly. Maybe this can help us learn more about a person’s character.” said Brian Meier, a scientist from the study team. “Taste is something we experience every day. What we did is to find out if someone’s character has to do with his taste.”
In the first experiment, student were asked questions about their character to see whether, for example, they were friendly or not. Then they were asked to make a list of their favorite food. According to their answers, the scientists found that the students who liked sweet food were nicer. People who like sweet food usually have a better relationship with other people.
In another experiment, the scientists found that people who liked sweet food such as candies and chocolate were more ready to help other people in need, and those who loved non-sweet food such as eggs and chips weren’t. For example, people with a sweet tooth were more prepared to volunteer to clean up their city, visit sick children in the hospital and so on.
The result of the experiments is that people’s helpfulness or being nice has something to do with their taste for sweet food. So eating sweet food is a useful way to make people nice and helpful. Next time, try some ice cream.
28.The underlined word “overweight” in Paragraph 1 probably means “______” in Chinese.
A.过胖的 B.生病的 C.糖分过高的

Also, in some areas, people have the custom of weighing themselves on the day of Beginning of Summer. 35 If a person has lost weight during the spring, they will try to eat more in summer to get stronger.

If cola is bad for us, you may want other popular drinks, for example, energy drinks (功能饮料). Many people drink energy drinks because they are said to make people energetic. Energy drink makers say they give you energy and make you do better at sports. So, many students drink them before exams to help them stay awake.
Energy drinks can also cause some problems. To keep you awake, most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因). They are like a strong cup of coffee or tea. If you drink a lot of them, your heart will beat faster. You will feel nervous. You could also have sleeping problems and find it hard to live without them.
Amanda is a 16-year-old junior high school student. She drinks one or more energy drinks every day. She started to do this a year ago before her dance class. But now, Amanda says, “I drink energy drinks when I feel weak or before a test. I cannot stop drinking them.”

61.例文
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played an important role in people’s everyday life since it was put forward in 1956. In the class meeting, my friend Yaming and I had a heated discussion about whether AI could replace teachers. Yaming believes AI could solve all problems, so we don’t need teachers anymore. He thinks students can learn much better with AI.
However, I hold a different view. First, AI lacks the ability to carry out moral education, which is vital for students’ growth. Second, teachers can offer emotional support and motivation that AI can’t. Instead of replacement, AI and teachers should work together. AI provides learning resources, while teachers guide students. Only in this way can students achieve all-round development.
