Have you ever tried to hide your feelings from someone during a conversation It’s not always easy, as the colours on your face may tell the truth.
Scientists from the Ohio State University have found that people are able to tell other people’s feelings according to changes in the colour of their faces, The Guardian reported. Scientists studied pictures of people’s facial expressions. They found that every facial expression has a special colour mode. For example, happiness makes our faces red around the cheeks (脸颊) and temples (太阳穴) and a little blue around the chin (下巴). Disgust (厌恶) creates a blue-yellow colour around the lips, but also a red-green colour around the nose and forehead.
“We believe these colour patterns are due to small changes in blood flow. It is controlled by the central nervous system,” lead researcher Alex Martinez told The Gruardian. But this raises the question: Is it the colour alone, or also facial expressions, that help people tell others’ feelings
To find this out, scientists added colour patterns to pictures of faces that showed no facial expressions. They asked volunteers to tell what emotions the faces were showing. Volunteers were able to tell the emotion correctly 75 percent of the time.
This may explain why there are some Chinese sayings that connect feelings to the colour of one’s face. For example, when two people are heatedly arguing over something, we say they are red in the face. When a person is very angry, we’d say he or she is blue in the face.
28.What did the scientists from the Ohio State University find
A.Pictures of people’s facial expressions are important.
B.It is not easy to hide your emotions from someone during a conversation.
C.People can tell people’s feelings according to changes in the colour of their face.
29.How did a person perform when she is happy
A.There is a blue yellow colour around the cheeks.
B.There is a little blue around the chin.
C.There is a red-green colour around the nose and forehead.
30.What does Alex Martinez believe is the reason of colour patterns
A.People’s emotion. B.People’s facial expressions. C.Small changes in blood flow.
31.What is the best title of the passage
A.The colour of people’s face.

C.The way to hide your emotions from someone.

四、短文填空(本大题共10小题,每题1分,共10分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
To manage our time well, we need a goal that truly encourages us. This goal will 46 (help) us beat laziness and make the most of every minute.
Once we have a goal, planning becomes super helpful for managing 47 (we) time. When I was applying to (申请) 48 (university) in the US, I had so many exams, competitions and activities to manage. So I started making daily to-do lists, like 49 (finish) a certain number of book exercises every day. Having clear plans is great because it helps our brains understand 50 to do step by step.
But the most important thing is actually doing the tasks. Sometimes, when I have a big task, I struggle (斗争) with laziness, I might tell myself I’ll just spend 10 minutes 51 my phone before starting a task, but then 52 hour goes by! This happens because our brains don’t always like challenges. To help 53 this, I follow a 10-minute rule: If a task takes less than 10 minutes, I do it right away, If it takes longer, I promise myself 54 (work) on it for at least 10 minutes. This makes tasks feel easier. By breaking tasks into smaller steps and working on them bit by bit, I can finish them more 55 (easy) and successfully.
五、任务型阅读(本大题共5小题,每题2分,共10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题或翻译画线部分。
Sometimes, going for a bike ride is the best thing ever. But bikes weren’t always as good as they are now. In 1817, a German man named Karl Von Drais made the first two wheeled riding thing. It was called the “Hobby Horse”. It didn’t have foot pushers, so you had to push your feet against the ground to make it go. Even though Drais is known as the “father of the bicycle”, his invention wasn’t very popular. A poet named John Keats even said it was “not much”.
However, people in Europe kept working on the idea to make it better. In the 1860s, French inventors added foot pushers to the machine. These were the first real bicycles. But they were bumpy (颠簸的) and not very comfortable, so people called them “boneshakers”.
To make the bicycle safer, inventors like the British James Starley and the French Eugene Meyer made bikes with big front wheels. People called these “big-wheel bikes.” These bikes became really popular in the 1870s and 1880s. In 1884, an Englishman named Thomas Stevens started a trip around the world on one of these bikes.
But these bikes were still a bit dangerous. So, in 1885, another Englishman named John Kemp Starley invented the “safe bicycle”. The wheels were the same size and it used a chain to make the back wheel turn, just like today’s bikes do. Later, brakes (刹车) and tires (轮胎) were added, and that’s how we got the bicycles we know and love today.
Bicycles have come a long way since the early days of the Hobby Horse. Today they bring joy and excitement to millions of people around the world.
