If you’re concerned about the cost of gas and the environmental impact of gas-powered
cars, and don’t want to worry about the charging challenges associated with the pure electric
vehicle (EV), it’s time to take a closer look at a hybrid (混合的) electric vehicle (HEV). While
salespeople might simply advise you to “plug in daily and use gas for longer trips,” understanding the underlying mechanics is key to determining if an HEV truly fits your needs. Essentially, an
HEV offers you the best of gas cars and EVs.
An HEV has two sources of power: an internal combustion (燃烧) engine (ICE) and at least one electric motor. There are two main types of HEV: parallel (并联式) hybrid and series hybrid.
The parallel hybrid (PHEV) aims to keep the core designs ofthe conventional gas-powered vehicles while lowering the operation costs and improving the environmental performance.
Reduced to its basics, its system uses ICE and electric motors to power the wheels — either
试卷第 3 页,共 15 页
together or independently. This structure performs reliably on long-distance journeys and complex road conditions, where the combustion engine operates efficiently.
In the case of series hybrid (SHEV), the vehicle runs only on electricity, which is from the battery. When the battery is exhausted, the ICE switches on — not to drive the wheels directly, but to power the generator and charge the battery. This setup offers smoother and quieter driving
operation which is similar to pure electric vehicles. It’s generally more eco-friendly, and further reduces the cost of use.
In today’s market, conventional gas cars are going significantly cheaper, while stylish pure electric vehicles have become symbols of modern status. The HEV, striking a practical balance
between these two extremes, certainly deserves a closer look.
Properties Parallel Hybrid Series hybrid
Urban Efficiency Lower Higher
Highway Efficiency Higher Lower
Fuel Consumption Higher Lower
Power Performance Higher Lower
Sales Price Lower Higher
21 .What is an advantage of HEVs compared with other types of vehicles
A .They’re simpler in design. B .They’re cheaper to purchase.
C .They’re more eco-friendly. D .They’re more practical to use.
22 .What does the ICE in a series hybrid car directly work on
A .Replacing the generator. B .Driving the wheels.
试卷第 4 页,共 15 页
C .Starting the electric motor. D .Charging the battery.
23 .In which aspect are PHEVs generally better than SHEVs
A .Mountain road driving. B .In-city transportation.
C .Waste gases production. D .Vehicle running costs.

The paddle (桨) cuts through the water as Paralympian athlete Curtis McGrath pushes his canoe (皮划艇) forward. With each strong move, a quick flash of green-and-yellow Aboriginal art can be seen on the paddle — the special design for Australia’s Paralympic team. For McGrath,
this pattern, called “The Journey”, carries deep meaning. It matches his own story, as he found strength in sports after losing his legs. It seems symbolic of the idea that talking can support
recovering.
Many people find it difficult to talk about serious illness or injury. Serious injuries, like
McGrath’s, come with a complex range of emotions including anger, denial, and depression. But sharing such emotions and talking about injuries can help people to manage them.
“For me, to have a good support network around me helped me get through those tough
times,” McGrath said during an interview in 2018. Understandably, many people with serious
injuries find it easier to talk with others going through the same or a similar experience. This can bring a fuller level of understanding that helps people live with their injury on practical and
emotional levels.
“Six months after I got hurt, I got to see people who’d been injured doing things that I
didn’t think were possible,” says McGrath. Inspired, he tried a few sports before finding his
passion for paracanoe that he took to the Invictus Games in London, 2014. His achievements in sports have seen him win multiple gold medals at the Paralympic Games and World
Championships.
McGrath has become a champion for people with a disability, and a motivational speaker. And he’s not afraid to openly discuss his suffering. “It’s important to remember that the hard
times never last forever,” advises McGrath, “There’s someone out there that’s going through something similar. It’s your responsibility to reach out to talk and to see what you could be.”
24 .Why does the author mention “The Journey” on McGrath’s paddle

A .To present his personal recovery story.
B .To express his honor as a disabled athlete.
C .To explain the special design for the team.
D .To highlight the importance of team spirit.
25 .How can sharing emotions about serious injuries benefit people
A .It reduces their dependence on others.
B .It saves them the cost of medical care.
C .It increases their tolerance of injuries.
D .It helps them get professional guidance.
26 .What does McGrath advise disabled people to do
A .Contain emotions. B .Take responsibility.
C .Develop hobbies. D .Seek connection.
27 .Which of the following can best describe McGrath
A .Curious and devoted. B .Strict and influential.
C .Strong and independent. D .Open-hearted and inspiring.

Psychologists have become increasingly interested in how switching between languages influences thinking — a phenomenon known as the “foreign language effect” . Unlike linguistic
determinism, which suggests a language’s structure shapes thought, this effect stems from the general experience of using a second language, often making people more rational and
open-minded.
Research pioneered by Professor Boaz Keysar shows this strongly influences moral
reasoning. When considering the “trolley problem” — whether to sacrifice one life to save five — people are twice as likely to make the utilitarian (实用主义的) choice when using their second
language. The emotional distance provided by a foreign language appears to reduce instincts (本能) reactions.
The effect also reduces classic cognitive biases. People’s distaste for financial loss is much less strong when bets are presented in a foreign language. Speaking a second language can also
lessen how easily we are influenced by how information is framed and our reluctance to quit
试卷第 6 页,共 15 页
failing projects. Similarly, the “bias blind spot”, where people believe they are less biased than others, diminishes when thinking in another tongue. Over a decade of research, the effect has proven consistent and repeatable.
Beyond decision-making, the foreign language effect impacts memory. Recalling traumatic events in a second language causes less emotional distress. Recent studies show it also reduces
false memories: When presented with misleading information, people are better at avoiding errors if the material is in their foreign language, as they engage in more careful, deliberative thinking
when processing information in a non-native tongue.
In our globalized world, this research suggests a practical cognitive tool. Deliberately
switching to a second language can help us become more detached and objective. Whether
evaluating investments, processing personal upsets, or considering controversial policies, using a foreign language can provide valuable emotional distance and reduce automatic reactions. For
language learners, this is an unexpected payoff; for others, it’s a compelling reason to start learning.
28 .What does paragraph 3 indicate about the effect
A .It is a surprising new discovery. B .It requires a long time to prove.
C .It turns out to be reliable over time. D .Its mechanisms are fully understood.
29 .Why are people less likely to form false memories when recalling in a foreign language
A .They give top priority to correctness. B .They get in a more thoughtful process.
C .They engage in more automatic thinking. D .They avoid thinking about difficult topics.
30 .What is a practical benefit of applying the effect in real life
A .Reducing automatic reactions entirely. B .Ensuring perfectly reasonable decisions.
C.Accelerating the decision-making process. D.Increasing objectivity and emotional distance.
31 .What is the main idea of the text
A .Benefits of using a second language. B .Discussion on linguistic determinism.
C .Necessity of learning a second language. D .Challenges of learning foreign languages.

Anna Sewell (1820-1878) wrote only one novel during her lifetime, a book describing the life of a beautiful, black horse, Black Beauty. The book is written from the point of view of the
试卷第 7 页,共 15 页
horse which helps us understand the influence that good and bad treatment had on the horses in the story. Black Beauty had a great effect on the treatment of animals and changed the way that people thought about horses.
Black Beauty spent his early years in a picturesque, green field with his mother and some other young horses. When it was time for him to be trained to serve men, he was gently and
patiently broken in by his master. He learned to wear a saddle (马鞍) and bridle (缰绳), and carry a human quietly on his back.
At his next home, one of the horses with whom he shared a stable (马厩), had the
reputation of being wild and aggressive. This horse, Ginger, said this was because she had been treated very badly at a young age. Although her new master and his employees were very kind, she could not help being suspicious of men.
Black Beauty’s kind owner was forced to move abroad for the sake of his wife’s health.
This marked the beginning of a string of owners with different personalities. Some were
well-intentioned but allowed their grooms (马夫) full control of their animals. Unfortunately, in Black Beauty’s case, this often proved to be harmful.
Fortunately, after some time Black Beauty was bought by Jerry Barker, a kind cab owner.
There, he became a very well-loved horse. Although being a cab horse was very hard work, Black Beauty was given good food to eat, a warm stable to sleep in and lots of kind words. Black Beauty cared for him. He was always very happy there.
⑥ The pleasant life came to a sudden end when Jerry was forced to sell his horses. After
several other owners, Black Beauty was sold to Nicholas Skinner. He had to work very hard with no rest, insufficient food and poor accommodation. Eventually, Black Beauty became very ill
from all this hard work, and had treatment. His owner wanted to have him killed when he could no longer do the job. Luckily, a vet convinced Skinner to allow Black Beauty to rest and recover, and then sell him, so that he would make a bigger profit. The owner agreed to have the horse’s life
spared, but only for the sake of money.
After spending years on London’s streets, Black Beauty’s next home was a pleasant farm, with a caring master. After nursing him back to good health, the farmer decided that Black Beauty needed to live in a place more appropriate than a farm. He sold Black Beauty to two kind young
sisters, who lived on a pleasant country estate with a large, green meadow. Here the weary but

content horse finally found the rest and peace of mind that he so desired and deserved.
32 .According to the passage, what can be learned about Black Beauty
A .He was taken away from his mother after birth.
B .He was suspicious of men because of his childhood.
C .He worked as a cab horse for some time.
D .He finally found his home on a farm.
33 .What can be inferred from the sentence “in Black Beauty’s case, this often proved to be harmful” (in paragraph 4)
A .Black Beauty’s life wasn’t as terrible as expected.
B .Black Beauty’s experience did much harm to him.
C .Black Beauty’s groom didn’t treat him very well.
D .Black Beauty’s owner pretended to be kind to him.
34 .Which of the following might be the best heading of paragraph 6
A .Time to take it easy. B .A fatal accident.
C .Hard but satisfying work. D .A cruel and greedy owner.
35 .The passage is most probably ________.
A .a summary of a book B .a promotion of a writer
C.an introduction to a famous horse D.an explanation of reasons for animal protection

Artificial intelligence (AI) is accelerating faster than most classrooms — or nervous
systems — can keep up with. It’s not just changing what you need to learn but how you need to think and what you need to truly thrive. Metaskills (元技能) are the new literacy.
Meta-learning (learning how to learn):
Meta-learning isn’tjust a strategy — it’s a mindset. ____36____. Neuroscientifically, this involves metacognitive circuits in the prefrontal cortex (前额叶皮质) and curiosity-linked
dopamine pathways connecting learning to reward and motivation. When you reflect on how you got to an answer — not just what the answer is —you build durable, transferable learning habits
试卷第 9 页,共 15 页
that work across any field or new technology.
Adaptability:
Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. It’s the capacity to update mental models when reality shifts — to adapt calmly, to stay flexible without losing focus. Adaptability depends on
prediction error processing. ____37____. The more we practice adjusting to uncertainty, the more efficient and resilient those neural systems become.
Cognitive reframing (重构):
Reframing taps into the brain’s executive networks to reinterpret a stressor as a challenge.
Studies show that effective reassessment downregulates the amygdala while preserving accuracy and agency. When someone says “I can’t keep up with AI”, reframing helps them say, “AI is my lab — I get to experiment.” ____38____.
Managing attention:
Attention is a very finite resource. Conventional AI selected what you saw; generative AI now creates perception and reality. The competition for attention is no longer passive.
____39____. This constant content creation floods working memory, reorganises focus, and erodes (侵蚀) the deep cognitive effort real learning requires. To reclaim your attention — to pause, filter, and focus — is now a survival skill for the mind.
____40____:
This is the ability to co-create with AI, combining human instinct with machine generation. Rather than seeing AI as a shortcut, you can use it as a different thinking partner — generating
possibilities, then improving them with judgment. This is the new creative literacy: not just making, but guiding creativity with intention.
A .Meta-creativity
B .Discomfort master y
C .It’s adaptive, highly personalised, and persistent
D .When expectations fail, the brain readjusts, creating new pathways
E .This wires the learning environment from threat-based to growth-based
F .People who communicate clearly and resolve tension will thrive in hybrid human-AI teams
G.It’s the ability to observe how you learn, adapt your methods, and improve your approach over
time

On the afternoon of my eighteenth birthday, I was driving around the quiet streets of our small town, feeling absolutely free and excited. I’d just got my driver’s license the week before, and this was my first time driving alone without my dad in the passenger seat. The sun was
shining, and the radio hummed with my favorite pop song. Everything felt perfect, like I was finally stepping into adulthood.
As I approached the corner of Maple Street, I made a turn a bit too quickly, and that’s when the worst thing happened. There was a loud, sharp sound of metal scraping against metal —
screech, crunch — that made my teeth ache. I applied pressure to the brakes so hard that my body jolted forward against the safety belt. My heart jumped into my throat — I had sideswiped a
polished, black Mercedes-Benz parked neatly by the pavement, its paint glittering like it hadjust

been washed.
I killed the engine and sat there for a minute, my hands shaking on the wheel. Unbuckled
my seatbelt, I steeled myself to get out of the car to inspect the damage. The street was completely empty, not a soul in sight — no neighbors watering their lawns, no kids riding bikes, no passing
cars. A powerful, selfish thought rushed into my head: “Just drive away. No one saw you. No one will ever know.”
I ran a hand over the Mercedes’ door, frowning at the long, deep scratch that snaked all its way on the door. My own car, the old Ford, only had a tiny dent (凹陷) on the side mirror, barely noticeable. Panic seized me as I thought about the money I’d been saving for months —
babysitting jobs, mowing lawns, working weekends at the grocery store — all saved up for my first semester of college textbooks and dorm supplies. I knew that repair bill would wipe that savings account clean in an instant. The temptation to jump back in the car and speed off was overwhelming, a heavy weight pressing down on my chest.

This is a notification to inform you that our new campus is still under construction, and it
won’t be finished until the end of May. The P.E. classes will still take place at the old campus this semester, because the new gym will take another three months to complete. Please don’t forget to take away your sports clothes and shoes after P.E. classes. Teachers and cleaners found clothes
and shoes scattered all around the gym last week. We really hope that such behavior will not
happen in the new gym. The chemistry laboratory will have two doors. One will open straight to the schoolyard, and the other one will lead to the nearby canteen. It’s very important for students not to enter the laboratory with food. Those who do it will be punished. Everyone will need a new card to enter the new teaching building. There will be an electronically controlled door that

truly fits your needs. Essentially, an HEV offers you the best of gas cars and EVs.(虽然销售人员可能只是建议你“每天插电,长途旅行使用汽油”,但了解其基本原理是确定混合动力汽车是否真正符合你需求的关键。从本质上讲, 混合动力汽车为你提供了汽油车和电动汽车的最佳性能)”和最后一段“The HEV, striking a practical balance between these two extremes, certainly deserves a closer look.
根据第四段“When the battery is exhausted, the ICE switches on — not to drive the wheels directly, but to power the generator and charge the battery.(当电池耗尽时,内燃机启动——不是直接驱动车轮,而是为发电机提供动力并为电池充电)”可知,串联混合动力汽车中的内燃机直接为电池充电。故选 D 项。
23 .推理判断题。根据第三段“The parallel hybrid (PHEV) aims to keep the core designs ofthe conventional gas-powered vehicles while lowering the operation costs and improving the
environmental performance. Reduced to its basics, its system uses ICE and electric motors to power the wheels — either together or independently. This structure performs reliably on
long-distance journeys and complex road conditions, where the combustion engine operates
hybrid(SHEV 串联式混合动力)的对比可知,PHEV 更适合长途和复杂路况驾驶。而“Mountain road driving (山路驾驶)”属于典型的复杂路况,需要更高的动力性能和可靠的长途适应性,
因此 PHEV 在这方面比 SHEV 更好。故选 A 项。

Food Waste: An Urgent Call for Change
Not until recently have I realized how alarming the food waste is around us, especially during festive gatherings. It is estimated that approximately 35 million tons of food are wasted yearly in China, accounting for nearly 6% of our total grain output.
It is often the desire to display hospitality that leads to excessive ordering, while a lack of awareness about resource scarcity further worsens the situation. Additionally, improper meal
planning also contributes.
Therefore, it is crucial that we take collective action. Let’s start by ordering wisely and
embracing portion sharing during the upcoming Spring Festival meals. Moreover, developing a habit of packing leftovers can significantly reduce waste. Through our efforts, a thriftier society can be built.

But then, I closed my eyes and pictured my dad’s face. The one he got when he’d taught me to ride a bike and I’d fallen and wanted to quit, or when I’d lied about breaking his favorite cup as a kid. He’d always told me, “Integrity isn’t about doing the right thing when someone’s watching — it’s about doing it when no one is.” Taking a deep breath, I calmed myself down and resolved to do the right thing. I needed to leave a note with my contact information so that the car owner
could reach me.
I found a piece of paper and a pen in the car glove box. With my fingers still trembling, I
scribbled down my name, phone number, and a sincere apology, and then tucked the note under
the Mercedes’s windscreen wiper. I breathed a sigh of relief. The sun was still shining, but the
overwhelming nervousness was gone — replaced instead with a quiet, steady pride. I climbed
back into the Ford, fired up the engine, and headed home ready to tell my dad everything, steeling myself to face the consequences of my mistake. After all, honesty is always the best policy.
