Read the following words and pay attention to the red words.
There are two amazing places on earth. The first place is much drier than most other places. It is one of the hottest places during the daytime. The days there are usually sunnier than in most places, but the nights can be colder than you think. plants are not as common as in other places because water is one of the most difficult things to find here.
The second place is greener than almost anywhere else. The rain falls the heaviest in this place. The trees grow taller and thicker than the ones in cities. The air there is much fresher than in other places.

形容词和副词的比较级和最高级
英语中的形容词和副词有三个等级：
原级，即原形；
比较级，表示“较……”或“更……一些”；
最高级，表示“最……”。
比较级和最高级的构成
构成方法 比较级最高级
单音节词和部分双音节词 一般在词尾加-er或-est tall – taller – tallest
以字母e结尾的词，在词尾加-r或-st nice – nicer – nicest
late – later – latest
重读闭音节词词尾只有一个辅音字母时，双写该辅音字母，再加 –er或-est thin – thinner – thinnest
big – bigger – biggest
fat– fatter – fattest
以“辅音字母+y”结尾的双音节词，先把 “y”改为“i”，再加 -er或-est funny – funnier – funniest
easy– easier – easiest
early– earlier – earliest
多音节词和部分双音节词 词前加more或most outgoing – more outgoing – most outgoing

不规则变化
1. 结构：主语+be形容词比较级+than+比较对象.
主语+实义动词+副词比较级+than+比较对象.
比较级表示两者(人或事物)进行比较,表示“一方比另一方更……”。
形容词、副词比较级的用法
e.g. I’m more outgoing than my sister.
You know more about yourself than I (do).
David jumps higher than I / me. (口语中一般用me)
当than前后所使用的动词相同时，通常用助动词代替后面的动词。该助动词也可以省略。
2. 比较级前可以用a little，much，a lot等词修饰。
e.g. The jacket is a little / much cheaper than the sweater.
He works much harder than me.
3. 当询问两者中“谁更/哪一个更/什么更……”时 ，常用句型为 ：
Who / Which / What + be + 形容词比较级, A or B
Who / Which / What + 实义动词 + 副词比较级, A or B
e.g. Which is better, the red dress or the black dress
Who dances better, you or your sister
4. 结构：比较级+ and + 比较级，表示“越来越……”
e.g. … the noise of the water slowly grew louder and louder.
形容词、副词最较级的用法
形容词与副词的最高级常用于三者或三者以上的人或事物之间的比较。
1. 主语+谓语动词(+the) +最高级(+名词)+ in/of，
表示“……在某范围内最……”
e.g. This is the most amazing story of all.
这是所有故事中最令人惊叹的。

2. 主语+谓语动词 +one of the + 形容词最高级+ 复 数名词 +
in/of…，表示“……是某范围内最……的……之一”
e.g. It is one of the widest roads in our city.
它是我们市最宽的路之一。
3. 主语+谓语动词 + the + 序数词+形容词最高级+ 名词+ in/of…，
表示“……是某范围内第……的……”
e.g. Tom is the second tallest boy in our school.
汤姆是我们学校第二高的男孩。
形容词、副词最较级的用法
4. 疑问词+谓语动词 (+the) + 最高级, A, B or C，是最高级
的选择疑问句，意为“在A、B、C中，……最……？”
e.g. Who sings best, Tom, Jim or Tim
谁唱得最好，汤姆、吉姆还是蒂姆？
1. 表示两者(人或事物)在某一方面相同时，用：
as + 形容词或副词原形 + as
原级比较
e.g. Tom isn’t as / so tall as me.
I don’t sing as / so loudly as my sister.
e.g. I think science is as important as math.
Linda runs as fast as Amy.
2. 表示一方在某一方面不及另一方时，用：
not as / so + 形容词或副词原形 + as
大数的表达与读法
数字分隔：从右往左，每三位加一个逗号。
单位读法：从右数，第一个逗号读 thousand(千)，第二个
读 million(百万)，第三个读 billion(十亿)。
3. and 用法：百位非零时，在 hundred 后加 and；百位为零时，
在 thousand 后加 and。
4. 单位转换：英语里没有“万”和“亿”，用 thousand 和
milion 表示，比如“一万”是 ten thousand，“一
亿”是one hundred million。
