For over 2,000 years, people around the world have told the story of Atlantis, a civilization lost under the sea. But where was Atlantis Was it real
The earliest record of Atlantis was written by the philosopher Plato around 360 BC (公元前). According to Plato, about 9,000 years before his time, there was an island in the Atlantic Ocean (大西洋) called Atlantis. The people of Atlantis made war on many lands around the Mediterranean until the people of Athens stopped them.
After that, earthquakes and floods destroyed Atlantis, and in one day and night the island sank below the sea.
From ancient times people have had different ideas about Plato’s story. Some think it was real history, and others think it was just fiction.
Some say Plato may get the idea from a real disaster around 1500 BC. At this time, there was a huge volcanic eruption on the island of Thera in the Aegean Sea (爱琴海). It destroyed the island and caused a tsunami that also destroyed the nearby island of Crete.
Most experts now believe Plato made up the story to share his ideas. In his story, ancient Athens was a better place, while Atlantis was strong but greedy and proud. It was punished in the end.
Even though Plato’s story probably isn’t true, explorers around the world continue to search under the sea for the lost city of Atlantis. And the story inspires art, poetry, music, books, movies, games and more.

Experts have discovered ancient Chinese artifacts from two shipwreck sites at the bottom of the South China Sea. These artifacts are from the Ming Dynasty, which lasted from 1368 to 1644, and include items such as ceramic dishes, porcelain containers, and copper coins.
The shipwrecks, found in 2022, are about 5,000 feet deep and 14 miles apart. Scientists believe that they were trade ships carrying goods. A team of experts used an underwater instrument to explore the sites. With the help of remotely operated vehicles and robotic arms, they were able to find many artifacts.High-resolution cameras and 3D laser scanners helped take pictures and videos of the shipwrecks.
Researchers said that the two ships traveled on the sea during different times of the Ming Dynasty,from 1488 to 1521. They found 890 artifacts in total from the first shipwreck, which was believed to be carrying porcelain from Jingdezhen, a city known as the “porcelain capital” of China. From the second shipwreck, they found 38 artifacts.
China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration stated that these shipwrecks are important to China’s trade and cultural exchanges.

Sadly, she’s going back to China. To show how much we’ll miss her, I’ll have a surprise party for her at my home this Saturday evening.
