Tony’s Drama Dilemma
Tony was very happy when his teacher made him director of the class drama Snow White. But his first day as director was a disaster.
The problem started when giving out roles. Lisa and Mary both wanted to play Snow White. Some team members thought Mary was better because she had acted before. Others liked Lisa because she had a sweet voice. Everyone looked at Tony, waiting for his decision. But Tony froze. He thought Mary was better, but he didn’t want to hurt Lisa’s feelings.
“I’m out!” Lisa shouted angrily. She stormed off, and the whole team went silent. Tony felt terrible. He didn’t know what to do, so he wrote an email to Ms White for advice. Ms White replied quickly. She said Tony should take responsibility as a leader. First, he should talk to Lisa to understand why she wanted the role. Then, he could let Lisa and Mary try two roles—Snow White and the Queen. The team could vote for the best person for each role. Ms White also told Tony he didn’t have to solve all problems alone—his team was there to help.
Tony followed Ms White’s advice. He talked to Lisa, and she agreed to try the role of the Queen. The team voted, and Mary became Snow White. Everyone was happy. Tony learned that being a good leader means making fair decisions and working with the team.

The “Human Ladder” on Mount Qomolangma
On 24 May 1960, four Chinese climbers stood near the top of Mount Qomolangma. They faced the Second Step—a 30-metre-high rock wall that no one had climbed before.
Liu Lianman was the team leader. He tried four times to climb the rock, but each time he fell back. The thin air made him weak. “I can’t try again,” he thought. But he didn’t give up. Instead, he decided to be a “human ladder”. He lay down and let his teammate Qu Yinhua stand on his shoulders. Slowly, Liu stood up and helped Qu climb to the top. He did the same for Gong Bu. Then, Liu and Wang Fuzhou climbed up with a rope.
But Liu was too tired to go on. The team was worried, but they had to carry on. They gave Liu all their oxygen. It was dangerous to climb without oxygen, but they knew Liu needed it more. After hours of hard work, they reached the top at 4:20 am on 25 May. They were the first Chinese to climb Mount Qomolangma from the North Ridge.
Liu didn’t reach the top, but he shouldered his team into history. He showed what true teamwork is—helping each other to achieve a common goal.

We all enjoy being part of a group—there’s no better work than teamwork, right Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own, which is a much better fit for me. I began to think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder.
To start with, a special personality can make teamwork difficult. There’s often someone on the team who puts his or her personal needs first. He or she is often selfish (自私的). The team often goes along with several persons like this. Just one person like this can make teamwork hard. With several persons like this working together, it’s even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had as much time as we needed to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together.
A final reason why teamwork is difficult is that there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just get together in a room and expect to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practise and they train to play well together.
Teamwork can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to share it with to see if it is really a great one. Don’t get me wrong—I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realise what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past. I also get to know how good teamwork could be if done correctly. So, one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.

44.How does the writer develop his idea in paragraph 4
A.By listing the reason for teamwork training.
B.By giving an example of the football team.
C.By showing different ways of starting teamwork training.
D.By mentioning the difficulty of teamwork training.
45.What does the writer think of working alone
A.It has no challenges at all.
B.It is always better than teamwork.
C.It also has some disadvantages.
D.It is sometimes difficult but interesting.
At the Paralympic Games (残奥会), many blind or nearly blind athletes race (比赛) with the help of a guide. These pairs work very closely together.
Jerusa Geber is a runner who lost her sight as a teenager. When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope. If they’ve started well, he matches her speed bit by bit, but with the opposite foot. They work so well together that Jerusa now holds the women’s world record in the 100-metre race for blind or nearly blind athletes.
Since 2012, guides at the Paralympics can win medals too. But the teamwork is about more than just winning. Garcia is a runner himself. “I like being a guide,” he said. “I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”
In cycling, Hannah Chadwick and her guide, Skyler Espinoza, also work closely. When they ride together, Espinoza always holds Chadwick’s hand before starting,” It’s a reminder (提示) that we’re in this together,” Espinoza said.
Chadwick and Espinoza follow the same training plan. Sometimes, when the training gets hard, Chadwick thinks of her teammate. “I’m not training just for myself,” she said. “I’m training for both of us!”
People sometimes say Espinoza is making a sacrifice (牺牲) for a disabled athlete. But she doesn’t see it that way. Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sport. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her,” she said.
46.How does Garcia help the blind athlete Jerusa Geber
A.He walks in front of her to show the path.
B.He runs behind her and shouts directions.
C.He rides a bicycle next to her to guide the way.
D.He holds a rope, running beside her with the opposite foot.
47.Which of the following words best describes the guides at the Paralympics

Do you do team projects at school I do a lot. I enjoy team projects because I like sharing ideas with other people. Of course, team activities aren’t always easy. You need to know how to work well together. Here are some suggestions to make teamwork easier.
①___________
Make sure everyone understands the goal of the project. If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions carefully and ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. There’s a popular saying: If you don’t know where you’re going, you probably won’t get there.
Assign (指派) roles
Everyone should have a role in the team. For example, there should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions. There might be a note-taker who writes down the team’s ideas during meetings, and a time-keeper to control the time. There also might be a fact-checker or a group speaker.
②___________
For large projects, the work can be divided into smaller tasks. Then you can choose tasks that you do well in or enjoy. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. It’s good to try new things, even if they’re difficult!
③___________
After you divide the work, write down a plan on paper. You can use a calendar to help you. List all the tasks and think about when each one must be finished. It’s important for everyone to follow a plan. And if you can’t finish your part on time, tell the others as soon as possible.
Try to be positive. Everything is easier when you are enjoying yourself in the team.
