Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
Why do we develop self-driving care
Self-driving cars give us many benefits (好处). They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer traffic jams and better parking of car for disabled or blind people. Self-driving cars also help them get around more easily. Each year, over 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are injured. Self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90% and save governments a lot of money. The main causes of car accidents are human mistakes. By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver could. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars would have trouble seeing the lines on the road. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system could also get hacked by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction.
It’s clear that there’s much work to do to make self-driving cars common and safe on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.
52.What’s a benefit of self-driving cars
A.They don’t need parking lose
B.They allow disabled people to travel more freely.
C.They react faster than humans in bad weather.
53.Why can self-driving cars help reduce road accidents
A.Because they can correct human mistakes while driving.
B.Because their computers can predict all road accidents.
C.Because their computers don’t “lose attention” like humans do.
54.What does the underlined phrase “get hacked” mean in Chinese
A.被窃取信息 B.被黑客侵入 C.被意外保护
55.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The disadvantages of self-driving cars.
B.The benefits of having a human driver.
C.How the computers in self-driving cars work.
56.What do we know from the last paragraph
A.Many countries are working together to develop self-driving cars.
B.Self-driving cars are already commonly seen in China.
C.China is trying to make self-driving cars safer and more common.

For Emma, PE class was the most difficult part. She didn’t mind the tiredness but the looks her classmates gave her. Emma was bigger than others of her age. Some students often laughed at her, so she didn’t like PE class.
“Just one year,” Emma kept telling herself, “One year and I’ll graduate and won’t have to take this stupid PE class anymore.”
But everything changed when a girl called Kit joined the class. She was 13 years old. She had short hair, bright eyes, and a long scar (伤疤) across the left side of her face. She introduced herself, “Hi, everyone, I’m Kit. I love sports and fashion. You might be wondering about the scar. I got it when I fell off my bike. I see it as a cool mark now.” Emma listened in surprise. How could the girl be so confident
During lunchtime, Emma was sitting at her usual table. Kit walked over to join Emma. Emma couldn’t believe such a confident girl would like to sit with her. She worked up the courage to share what was troubling her. “Hug yourself!” said Kit. Hearing that, Emma felt a wave of warmth wash over her.
It was time for PE class again, but this time Kit was with her. Emma discovered that true confidence comes from within, not from others’ words. In the beautiful sunshine, the two girls walked together— one with a scar on the face and the other with a body that she finally felt she owned.
