Saying that those two weeks were an unexpected journey is no exaggeration (夸张). When I applied for a spot on an exchange program in Chengdu, I never thought I’d actually be selected.
Before going to China, my experience of Chinese cuisine was limited to lemon chicken, pot
noodles, and fried rice. So, in preparation for my trip to China, I was mentally preparing myself for the worst.
Eating turned out to be a pleasant surprise. When visiting Dujiangyan, three Chinese
students took me to a restaurant. I spent about ten minutes using Google Translate to decide what to eat. After deciding what I wanted, I asked for their help with my order. They laughed and said they’d already ordered for the whole table. Sharing is a big part of how food is consumed there.
You don’t order for yourself; you all order as a group. Every meal feels like a family dinner. It’s a very warm experience that we all greatly appreciated.
Getting along with others was one of the worrisome thoughts before my arrival although I was repeatedly told by my friends and family that I would make friends for life. It turned out my scepticism was severely misplaced. On the first day of classes, we all got to meet our
Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) students who were there to help
and guide us, and they all ended up meaning so much more to us. For two weeks, we honestly felt like a big family.
Finally, I wanted to give some advice to any students considering this program. Try to get a SIM card so you are able to access mobile Internet. Learn the basics ofthe language. You’ll also probably find that you’ll pick up other words along the way. If you are part of the SWUFE
program, bring lots of gifts. I didn’t think I would get as close to so many students as I did, so I didn’t pack enough gifts. Travelling can be a little scary but if you just stay calm, you will find that it’s really an enjoyable experience.
4 .How did the author feel about the trip to Chengdu before departure
A .Excited. B .Curious. C .Confused. D .Anxious.
5 .What about dining in China stands out as a unique experience for the author
A .The challenge of translating menus.
B .The group dining practice of sharing
C .The diverse range of food offerings.
D .The experience of joining a friend’s family dinner.
6 .What does the underlined word “skepticism” in paragraph 3 mean
A .Interest. B .Confidence. C .Doubt. D .Promise.
7 .Why did the author consider himself ill-prepared
A .He forgot his SIM card.
B .He didn’t bring enough gifts.
C .He couldn’t grasp basic language skills.

C
The teacher starts with the basics: how to thread a needle Then, over the
course of the next 30 minutes, she shows the students a few different stitches (缝法), along with how to mend a torn shirt. This is not a lesson at some outdated finishing school. The class is part of a free, one-day course at Austin Community College (ACC) called “Adulting 101”. The
students range in age from their late teens to mid-40s.
ACC has been running such programmes for six-years. The workshops are designed to help people live as adults successfully, even those who have been adults for quite some time. The
topics range from how to dress appropriately for a job interview to how to file income taxes.
Raffi Grinberg, an author, created and taught “Adulting 101” at Boston College. The
inspiration for his class came from his first day working at Bain & Company, a management
consultancy, soon after he left university. He and other newcomers had to decide which health insurance plan to choose, how much of his income to devote to saving for retirement and other financial details. “Every one of us called our parents,” he admits, “We were graduates of really good schools, and we still didn’t know what to do.”
Why are such courses needed To many, these skills will sound like basic common sense. Yet, as the saying goes, common sense is not so common. The rise in the need for adulting classes reflects, in part, the changing nature of childhood and adolescence (青少年时期), which have
grown more digital and less physical. American teenagers spend up to nine hours each day on
screens. Social media do offer handy lessons on all manner of household chores. But most young users of these platforms are more interested in dancing than dishwashers.
Many will see adulting classes as evidence that young people are not fully developed. But coddled (被溺爱的) children do not admit the gaps in their knowledge and try to fill them. Only a grown-up would willingly spend precious free time doing something as boring as learning how to mend a shirt.

Maybe you’ve often dreamed of sitting an exam even if you haven’t been a student for
decades, or you’ve recently started revisiting a particular place while asleep. If so, you’re far from alone.
Research shows that up to 75% percent of adults experience at least one recurring (再发生的) dream during their lifetime. These dreams sometimes are nearly identical each time they occur, but they may also have recurring themes, locations, or characters set against different
backgrounds. New research is helping better identify patterns in recurring dreams’ frequency and content, as well as in the situations that lead to them.
Recent studies have found that recurring dreams are often — but not always — bad ones. In a 2022 survey by Michael Schredl, professor at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Germany, and his colleagues, adults flagged recurring dreams as “negatively toned” two-thirds ofthe time;
these dreams often touched on themes such as being attacked, arriving somewhere late or failing at
something. The reasons why we might have a greater tendency to have negative dreams are not
fully understood, but Schredl says dreams typically overdramatize something in our waking life — even a small feeling or slight situation we feel powerless to change.
Psychology and neuroscience offer additional clues. For example, we are subject to what’s known as negativity bias (偏见): a tendency to focus more on unpleasant thoughts, emotions, or
social interactions than on positive ones. This behavior is rooted in our subconscious (潜意识的) need to solve negative situations that threaten our survival. Negativity bias may be strengthened in sleep because our dreaming brain weakens the areas associated with linear logic and activates
parts associated with emotion, weakening the screen between our thoughts and our feelings.
There are tips to control negative recurring dreams. Some people have found success in a
practice called imagery rehearsal therapy, in which they repeatedly reimagine their nightmares (噩梦) with happier endings before going to sleep. Nirit Soffer-Dudek, a psychologist, also
recommends developing good “sleep hygiene.” By setting a consistent sleep schedule, limiting screen use, and avoiding caffeine before bed, “you’re less likely to fall asleep while still in a
heightened emotional state,” she says.
12 .What can we learn about recurring dreams
A .They are easy to remember.
B .They are a common phenomenon.
C .They usually occur during deep sleep.
D .They always have the same backgrounds.
13 .What might account for adults’ bad dreams according to Schredl
A .Uncontrollable real-life issues and feelings.
B .Overexposure to negative media content.
C .A tendency to recall negative memories.
D .A lack of emotional expression during the day.
14 .What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A .The impact of emotions on sleep quality.
B .The influence of negativity bias on dreams.
C .The connection between emotions and survival.
D .The relationship between sleep stages and dream content.
15 .Which method is suggested to help control negative recurring dreams
A .Avoiding sleep-related tasks. B .Reducing overall sleep duration.
C .Limiting physical activities before bedtime. D .Visualizing positive endings for nightmares.

Every student at Oakridge High knew that Michael was struggling. His family had recently moved to a smaller apartment across town after his father was laid off from work. The financial
pressures at home cast a shadow over everything he did.
Each morning, he arrived at Oakridge High wearing the same faded jeans and worn-out
sneakers. Where he once participated eagerly in class discussions, he now sat in the back row,
hoping to escape notice. He found himself staring blankly at the whiteboard, unable to focus. The numbers blurred together as worries about his family’s situation crowded his mind.
Mr. Evans, a teacher with twenty years of experience, recognized the signs immediately.
After class, he asked Michael to stay for a moment. “I know you’re going through a difficult
time,” Mr. Evans said, his voice filled with genuine concern. “But remember this: difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The struggle you’re facing today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” He placed a reassuring hand on Michael’s shoulder. “This temporary
setback doesn’t define you — it’s preparing you. I’ve seen your potential, and I believe in you even when you might not believe in yourself.”
Their after-school sessions became regular. He taught Michael how to break down complex problems into manageable steps — a strategy that applied not just to mathematics but to life’s
challenges as well. Most importantly, he consistently emphasized Michael’s capabilities, rebuilding the confidence that had been eroded (侵蚀) by recent difficulties.
As weeks passed, Michael’s performance began to improve dramatically. He started
arriving early for their sessions, often with questions prepared in advance. The frustration that once clouded his expression was replaced by determination. In class, he began raising his hand again, offering solutions to problems that challenged other students.

根据第一段中的“We’re happy to introduce News for Classroom Use: a weekly newsletter with a piece of news and activities based on it which you can use as a warm-up, a filler or a wrap-up task. activities that go with the particular piece of news. (根据这则特定新闻配套的活动安排,你或许需要向学生宣读它,或者它也可能成为你的参考依据。)”以及 ACTIVITY 部分中的“You

2.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The stories covered in the newsletter range from breaking news to more evergreen content which you will be able to go back to according to your students’
根据 ACTIVITY 部分中的“If you teach lower-level students, use the easier questions or just ask students to say what they think about the news. (如果您教授水平较低的学生(初学者),可以使用较简单的问题,或者直接让学生说出他们对这则新闻的看法。)”可知,向初学者推荐的活动是让他们表达自己的观点。故选 C 项。

【导语】这是一篇记叙文,文章主要介绍了作者去中国参加一个交流项目的经历。
4 .推理判断题。根据第一段中“Before going to China, my experience of Chinese cuisine was limited to lemon chicken, pot noodles, and fried rice. So, in preparation for my trip to China, I was mentally preparing myself for the worst.(在去中国之前,我对中国的美食经验仅限于柠檬鸡、方便面和炒饭。因此, 在为我的中国之行做准备时,我在心里做好了最坏的打算)”和第三段
答案第 1 页,共 11 页
中“Getting along with others was one of the worrisome thoughts before my arrival(在抵达之前,与他人相处这件事是我最担心的)”可知,作者出发前,因为对中国饮食不了解,已经做好了迎接最坏情况的心理准备,同时也提前担忧自己没法和他人相处,可见作者出发前是焦虑不安的,故选 D。
5 .细节理解题。根据第二段中“Sharing is a big part of how food is consumed there. You don’t order for yourself; you all order as a group. Every meal feels like a family dinner. It’s a very warm experience that we all greatly appreciated.(分享是那里饮食消费的一大特点。你不会为自己点餐,而是大家一起集体点餐。每顿饭都感觉像是家庭聚餐。这是一种非常温暖的体验,我们都非常感激)”可知,中国用餐的特别之处是:集体分享点餐,不是各自点自己的餐,每顿饭都像家庭聚餐,这种分享式集体用餐是作者觉得最独特的体验,故选 B。
6 .词句猜测题。根据划线词前文“Getting along with others was one of the worrisome thoughts before my arrival although I was repeatedly told by my friends and family that I would make
根据最后一段中“If you are part of the SWUFE program, bring lots of gifts. I didn’t think I would get as close to so many students as I did, so I didn’t pack enough gifts.(如果你参加了西南财经大学的这个项目,记得带上很多礼物。我没想到自己能和这么多同学如此亲密,所以没有带足够的礼物)”可知,作者没有想到会和这么多学生成为亲近的朋友,所以没有带够礼物,属于准备不足,故选 B。

American teenagers spend up to nine hours each day on screens.(成人生活技能课程需求的增长,部分反映了童年和青少年时期性质的变化,它们变得更加数字化,更少动手实践。
根据最后一段“But coddled children do not admit the gaps in their knowledge and try to fill them. Only a grown-up would willingly spend precious free time doing something as boring as learning how to mend a shirt.(但被溺爱的孩子不会承认自己的知识缺口并试图弥补。只有成熟的人才会愿意把宝贵的空闲时间花在学习补衣服这样无聊的事情上。)”可知,参加课程的年轻人能意识到自己的不足,他们有自我认知意识。故选 A。

根据后文“their bond formed in the innocent years of youth”描述的牢固纽带和前文“her closest friend”可知,她们关系亲密,两人“形影不离的”。故选 A 项。

A. recalled 回忆;B. assumed 假定、推测; C. confirmed 确认;D. regretted 后悔。

The true test came with the annual mathematics competition. The mathematics competition was intense, with the brightest students from across the district competing. Michael focused
intently, recalling Mr. Evans’s strategies as he solved each problem. When the results were
announced, he felt a surge of disbelief and joy upon hearing his name called for second place.
Walking to the stage to receive his certificate, he saw Mr. Evans applauding proudly in the
audience, giving him a thumbs-up. That moment of recognition meant more to Michael than the award itself.
After the award presentation, Michael went to Mr. Evans’s office. He found Mr. Evans was buried in grading students’ assignments. He approached his teacher, holding the certificate with
visible emotion. “Thank you for everything, sir,” Michael said sincerely. Mr. Evans responded with a warm smile, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You earned this through your own
determination,” he replied quietly. “Remember that challenges are merely opportunities in
disguise.” The brief exchange conveyed profound gratitude and pride, capturing the essence of their special student-teacher bond.
