The story of the lion and the mouse is a famous fable(寓言) from Aesop(伊索). It tells us that everyone has his own strength, no matter how big or small he is. In another version of the story, the lion was caught by hunters with a strong net instead of falling into a hole. The lion tried his best to break the net with his paws and teeth, but the net was too strong. He was very sad and thought he would die.
The mouse remembered the lion’s kindness and came to help him. She climbed up the net and bit the strings one by one. It took the mouse a whole night to bite a big hole in the net. The next morning, the lion got out of the net. He thanked the mouse and said, “I will never look down on small things again.” After that, the lion always protected the small animals in the forest, and the forest became more peaceful.
This fable is still popular today. It teaches children to be kind to others and never laugh at people who are weaker than themselves. Because you never know when you will need their help.
