选择性必修二Unit 1 Science And Scientists
Using Language:Talk about scientific experiences(教师版)
Learning objectives:
1.listen and understand what people can do and how they feel in a science museum;
2.predict by using pictures to focus better when listening;
3.talk about a scientific experience or a scientific phenomenon in daily life.
Part 1 Pre-listening
Answer the following questions
Have you ever visited a science museum What can you see and what can you do in it
What can you see in the picture What is he/ she doing
Part 2 While-listening
Listening Tips: How can we listen for a clearer goal
Before you listen to the audio, look at the questions first, and then circle the important words. While you are listening, take some notes quickly. You can write down some key words, abbreviations or numbers, even symbols.
Task 1: Learn about the basic information.
1. Where are the speakers going to go
A. To an art museum.
B. To a science museum.
C. To a field trip.
Key: B
2. What does the place focus on
A. Light and sound experiences.
B. History and art experiences.
C. Music and dance experiences.
Key: A
3. What kinds of things can you do there
A. Play a piano with feet.
B. See thousands of mirrors.
C. Speak loudly 17 meters away.
Key: A
Tip1:predict by using pictures.
Using the pictures provided, you can guess the kinds of information you should listen for. At times, you may even be able to guess exactly what will be talked about. This will help you focus better when listening, making your listening more effective.
Task 2: Figure out the right sequence
Write down the letters (A—E) for the photos in the order that you hear them.
1 ________ 2 ________ 3 ________ 4 ________ 5 ________
Key: D C E B A
Task 3: Listening for specific information. (Pay attention to the materials, process and theory)
Materials needed Process theory
Light Games A hall of _____ When we stand there ,we could see ourselves _______ thousands of times
A blue ______ When we look at it, we could see tiny bright lights _____________on it Our eyes played tricks on us. They were our ________ moving around like little lights.
Sound experiences A white_____ When I stand in front of it, it ____ different shadows of me, in every color of the ___________!
A giant ___________ When you use your ______ to play it, it plays the voices of ________________.
A giant_______ When you speak into it, it ________ the sound back and makes it ______.
Keys: mirrors; reflected; screen; moving around; blood cells; light; casts; rainbow; piano keyboard; feet; classical singers; dish; louder
Tip 2:Key word listening: With this kind of key word listening practice, it is important to carefully go over the sentences to be filled in before listening to the audio, and pay special attention to the words before and after the answer blanks.
Part 3 Post-listening
Task 4:What aspects can a scientific phenomenon be described from
_______: Today I want to talk to you about/share with you a scientific experiment named/called…
_______: You can make it easily using…,just like I have here.
Scientific
experiment _______: First, you can…;Then, you need…;Now, add…;You will see…;This. occurs when…;If you…, it will become… ; how light/ sound is reflected…
_______:This experiment/research shows/proves/ demonstrates that ...;We can. prove that ...; The evidence proves ...; Through this, we know that ...; ... can/ cannot exist in the form of a solid/gas and a plasma ...
Keys: Opening. Materials needed ,Process, Theory
Task 5: Speaking activity
Talk and Share: work in group of 4 and brainstorm a scientific experiment or a phenomenon, then share it with us .
self--evaluation
Self-checklist
Listening I can make a prediction of the dialogue by observing the pictures. I can understand the 5 scientific experiences by completing the description of them. I can infer the speaker’s emotion by analyzing the intonation and sentence stress.
Speaking I can talk about the significance of some scientific phenomena in actual life. I can express my interested scientific experience and explain the reason. I can describe a scientific phenomenon
Sample answer:
Today I want to talk to you about a very interesting phenomenon called refraction of light. You can observe it easily with a glass of water and a pencil, like I have here. Light refraction is interesting because when you put a pencil partly into the water, it looks bent at the water surface. In fact, it seems to break at the interface between water and air. Then, as soon as you take the pencil out of the water, it looks normal again. This shows that it is possible for light to change its direction when passing through different mediums.
Part 4 Homework
Visit the Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Museum on the weekend and share your scientific experience in a video.
Sample answers:
Water Surface Tension Experiment(98词)
Today I want to share a scientific experiment called Water Surface Tension Experiment You can make it easily using a shallow plate, some water droplets, paper clips and a dish soap, First, you can fill the plate with water; Then, you place a paper clip on the water—it floats! Now, add one drop of dish soap near the clip; You will see the clip sink quickly! This occurs when soap breaks water’s "invisible skin".This experiment demonstrates that water has surface tension that holds light objects. We can prove that soap weakens this tension, making the clip sink.
Light Reflection Experiment(130词)
Today I want to talk to you about a scientific experiment called Light Reflection Experiment—it’s super interesting! You can make it easily by using a flashlight, plane mirror, white cardboard and dark box, just like I have here. First, you put mirror and cardboard in the box; Then, shine flashlight on mirror at 30 degrees; Now, watch—you’ll see a bright spot! This occurs when light hits and bounces off, how light is reflected; If you tilt mirror up, the spot moves up too.: This experiment proves light travels straight and reflects off smooth surfaces. Evidence proves incidence angle equals reflection angle. Through this, we know we see faces in mirrors—light goes from face to mirror to eyes. Light can’t be solid/gas but moves through air and glass.选择性必修二Unit 1 Science And Scientists
