I (Robinson) was now in my twenty-seventh year on the island, and I did not want to be there for another year. One evening Friday went out to look for food. But in less than an hour he came back with fear.
“Master! Master!” he cried. “There’s a great ship near the island, and men are coming to the shore in a boat!”
I ran with him down to the shore. It was an English ship! We were careful not to be seen.
There were eleven men in the boat, but three of them were prisoners. Their arms were tied with rope, but their legs were free and they could walk. The other sailors pushed the three prisoners up the beach. Then some of them sat down on the sand and began to drink. Others walked away to look at the island, and two men stayed to watch the boat. The three prisoners walked slowly along the beach and sat down under a tree, not far from us. They looked very unhappy.
Very quietly, I came up behind them through the trees, and called out to them in English.
“Don’t be afraid,” I said. “I’m an Englishman. Perhaps I can help you.”
The three men turned and looked at me. They did not answer at once, they were too surprised. Perhaps they thought I was a wild man. Then the oldest man spoke.
“I am the captain of that ship,” he said, “last night there was a mutiny (叛乱), and the seamen took the ship from me. Now they’re going to leave the three of us here, to die on this island.”
“Do these mutineers (反叛者) have guns ”
“Only two,” he answered, “and they’ve left those on the boat.”
“All right,” I said. “We’ll fight them, but if we get your ship back for you, you must take me back to England.”

Wearable Health Tech for Teens
In recent years, wearable health technology has become popular among teenagers. These devices, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers (追踪器), offer a series of features that can help teens monitor (监视) and improve their health.
One of the key benefits of wearable health tech for teens is the ability to track physical activity. Most fitness trackers can count steps, measure distance traveled, and monitor the number of calories burned. This information encourages teens to be more active and set fitness goals. For example, if a teen sees that they haven’t reached their daily step goal, they may be motivated to go for a walk or play a sport. Some devices even have built-in GPS, allowing teens to accurately (精确地) track their running or cycling routes.
Wearable tech also helps with sleep monitoring. Many smartwatches can detect the different stages of sleep, such as deep sleep, light sleep, and REM sleep. By analyzing this data, teens can understand their sleep habits better. If they notice that they are not getting enough deep sleep, they can make adjustments (调整) to their bedtime routine, like going to bed earlier or avoiding screens before sleep. This is especially important for teens, as proper sleep is crucial for their physical and mental development.
In addition, some wearable devices can monitor important signs such as heart rate and blood pressure. This is useful for teens with certain health conditions or those who want to keep an eye on their overall health. For example, if a teen’s heart rate suddenly spikes (迅速上升) during exercise, the device can warn them, and they can take proper action.
Moreover, wearable health tech can be integrated with mobile apps, creating a community for teens. They can share their fitness achievements, compete with friends, and get motivation (动力) and support. This social aspect makes the experience of using these devices more attractive and fun for teens.
38.How can fitness trackers encourage teens to be more active
A.By showing their social media posts. B.By counting steps and setting goals.
C.By playing music during exercise. D.By taking pictures of their workouts.
39.Why is sleep monitoring important for teens
A.Because it helps them stay up late.
B.Because it can replace their alarm clocks.
C.Because proper sleep is important for their development.
D.Because it makes them more popular at school.
40.What is an additional benefit of wearable health tech
A.It can replace doctors’ check-ups. B.It can make teens’ schoolwork easier.
C.It can create a social community for teens. D.It can increase teens’ screen time.
41.What is the structure of this passage
A. B. C. D.
D
Do you have good friends Do you sometimes feel so close to them that they are like family to you
It turns out that this isn’t just an expression. A study from the University of California and Yale University has found that you and your friends have more genes (基因) in common than strangers do. Researchers looked at the genes of 1,933 people and compared unrelated friends’ genes and unrelated strangers’ genes. They found that friends have about 1% of genes that match.
“1% of genes may not sound like much to the layperson (外行), but to geneticists (遗传学家) it is a large number,” Professor Nicholas Christakis of Yale University said. In fact, this is the same number of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you.
So do you happen to become friends with people who share your genes Not at all. In fact, it is evolution (进化) that brings you together.
“People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes,” researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who had a similar susceptibility (敏感性) to the cold were more likely to help each other build a fire, giving them a better chance to stay alive.
Researchers also found that among all the genes studied, those producing a change in sense of smell were the most similar in friends. This is probably because people who smell things in the same way are more easily drawn to similar environments. For example, people who like the smell of coffee may hang out at cafes more often and as a result are more likely to meet and become friends with each other.
With these findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can help tell how big the chances are that two people will be friends by studying their genes.
So, here is a question for you: Would you like to take this test and know in advance (提前) who your friends are going to be, or would you still prefer to learn about it by yourself and let time be the judge
42.From the passage, we know that our friends ________.
A.look like our cousins B.share about 1% of genes with us

We began our hunt for the treasure. I was tied with rope and held by Silver. The other pirates (海盗) carried picks and shovels.
Suddenly, one man at the front shouted. We ran towards him and saw a skeleton (骨架) lying near a pine tree. With a compass (罗盘), we knew it pointed in the direction of Skeleton Island, where the treasure is. It reminded the pirates of the Captain Flint’s story and they started discussing his death.
When we rested, we heard a voice singing from the trees, similar to Flint’s. The pirates were all frightened. “Someone is playing a trick on us.” said Silver. The men started to feel better. However, the voice called out again, which made pirates look around in fear. Silver said, “I was never afraid of Flint when he was alive, and neither I am now. I won’t turn back on treasure quite near.” With this, the men’s spirits returned. They picked up things and we continued walking. Along the way, I was worried about Silver. I believe he could kill everyone to keep the treasure for himself.
One pirate shouted and the others started running but stopped at a great big hole. All the signs clearly showed treasure was not there. A fight was about to happen, but Silver acted faster. When I and Silver were prepared for the attack, the doctor, Gray and Ben Gunn came out and joined us.
As we walked to boats, the doctor told the story. “Two months ago, Ben found treasure and carried it to a cave. When we arrived, I met Gunn,” continued the doctor. “Then when I couldn’t see the ship, I visited Silver and gave him the useless map. I thought Jim was sure to be taken to the empty treasure pit. So I left squire and captain guarding the cave, and arrived at the pit (坑) in time. Gunn went before me, as he could move faster and worked on the pirates’ fears by singing and calling out, with great success.”

China’s food documentaries are booming. While most focus on popular restaurants in big cities, director Wang Shengzhi chooses a different path—he turns his camera to people’s k 61 in small towns or villages.
“E 62 is to repair oneself, if you go to a restaurant and order randomly (随机), it can’t fix you,” Wang says. “I often recall that when I was a child, eating was such a s 63 thing that brought me huge satisfaction. Why Because food is made by f 64 .”

One key factor for Wang when choosing an interviewee in his documentary was their kitchen. He required a t 68 setup with a firewood stove and to use ingredients (原材料) from the cooks’ own fields or backyards. “In this documentary I want to show that all ingredients have their source, whether it’s the pigs they r 69 , or the vegetables grown in their fields.”

Life skills for the future
Nowadays, some schools are teaching life skills as well as traditional subjects. This prepares students better for life in the real world.
Schools should first prepare students for adult life money managing skills. I take a closer look at my spending habits. I take notes of where each coin has gone every day. When I have money, I usually ask my mum to help me put some in the bank.
The cooking skill is important for our survival when we are living on our own. Everyday I prepare healthy meals for myself. It can save money by dining at home. I become more independent and confident in my ability to care for myself.
In fact, we already learn many life skills while doing traditional subjects. For example, we learn teamwork by doing group projects.
All in all, I believe all schools should teach some life skills.
