(Parallelism & Anticlimax)
如果按照常规思维,读者可能会预期nothing greater than to save the world或than to achieve greatness,但句子却落在平淡的do something for others上。
如果把something换成everything (to do everything for others),意思有什么变化?
如果把something换成everything (to do everything for others),意思有什么变化?
... to do something for others,为别人做点事,强调力所能及的善意,不设标准,人人可为。
... to do everything for others,为别人做一切事,强调无条件的奉
原文用 nothing(最绝对的否定) 与 something(最不确定的肯定) 形成强烈反差:最伟大的事,居然只是“做点什么”。
正如俗语所说the best is the enemy of the good(追求完美反而坏了好事)。
原文的情感递增:从we must learn(理性的号召)→ there is nothing greater(绝对化的判断)→ to do something for others(具体的行动指向),形成了一条“理性→情感→行动”的递进链条。

Small Tree Holes, Big Help
In China, more and more people are paying attention to the mental health of students. In a middle school in Chongqing, a great idea called “Tree Hole Pocket” helps students a lot.
Many students at Zhengze Middle School in Chongqing are from migrant worker families. Their parents often don't know how to communicate with them, so the students don't like to talk about their problems. To deal with this, the school started the “Tree Hole Pocket” project in 2023.
Students write their worries, secrets and wishes on notes and put them into the “tree holes”. Police officers, called “Tree Hole Sisters”, collect the notes, sort the notes and report back to the school. Then, the school works with different groups to help students solve their problems.
The “Tree Hole Pocket” project makes the school a warmer place. With it, more students share their problems. “Now I can write down my troubles easily. When someone answers, I feel heard,” a student said happily.
1. Why did Zhengze Middle School in Chongqing start the “Tree Hole Pocket” project
2. How do you think about the “Tree Hole Pocket” project Would you like your school to have a similar project too Why or why not
