The police have many ways of catching criminals. One way of catching them is by fingerprinting (指纹). Fingerprinting is the study of the patterns on our fingertips. We have known that no two fingerprints are exactly the same for hundreds of years. However, it wasn’t until 1910 that the first criminal in the USA was convicted (被判有罪) using fingerprint evidence.
Early on the morning of September 19, 1910, Hiller’s wife noticed that the light which they usually left on was off. When Hiller went to find out what was happening, he saw a stranger at the top of the stairs. The stranger had broken in and wanted to steal something. Hiller and the stranger started to fight, but the stranger had a gun. He shot Hiller twice and ran away.
Hiller’s wife ran to Hiller when she heard the gunshots but found him dead. So she called the police. Soon after, the police caught Thomas Jennings, not far from the Hillers’ house.
The only problem was that no one saw the criminal. However, the police had started using fingerprinting at that time. According to Hiller’s wife, only several hours before Hiller’s death, he had painted some wood near the kitchen window. Then the police checked the wood completely and found some fingerprints in the wet paint.
During the trial (审判), the police proved that the fingerprints belonged to Jennings, and he was convicted of Hiller’s murder. Since then, fingerprinting has helped in the conviction of hundreds of thousands of criminals.

Li Baoguo was a college teacher in Hebei Province. But he wasn’t happy just to give lessons in a classroom. Li played a part in helping farmers and improving their agricultural techniques (农业技术) in all his life. In 2016, the year he died, President Xi said he was like the “old man Yugong on the Taihang Mountains”.
In fact, Li did one of his most important things in the Taihang Mountains. He heard that there were many poor people in the villages. Li knew that the villagers wanted to do something good to the lifeless mountains but had difficulty growing crops and trees there.
To solve this, he started teaching the villagers to dig the land and grow apple trees and other crops. When Li first started working with the villagers, they were careless about some of his techniques. So, he organized more than 800 training sessions (课程) and wrote books to show them how his ideas could help them. Slowly, people started to believe him and follow his advice on farming. After 1981, it took him more than 200 days of every year to work with the villagers. At last, people there covered the mountains with trees and crops (庄稼) successfully, which helped the villagers make money. Li worked in the countryside for 35 years and helped about 100, 000 farmers get themselves out of poverty (贫穷).

As teens get older, parents face a challenge: how to keep them safe while also letting them learn to be independent. One good way is to set a curfew.
The curfew is a certain time by which someone needs to be at home. It’s a tool used by parents to keep their children safe and teach them to follow the rules. Curfews are usually set for the night when social risks are higher.
Research shows teens need 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Without enough sleep, they may have worse mental and physical health and lower school results. Setting a curfew helps them build a clear bedtime and get better rest.
The curfew can also help teens avoid bad pressure from friends. It also helps them learn how to be careful and manage their time well. Some teens may see curfews as a type of control. Too strict curfews can hurt the parent-teen relationship, causing rebellion and cheating.
So when setting curfews, parents should find a good balance between freedom and safety, building trust and a sense of duty.
First, set a curfew that both agree on. Every family and teen is different. Generally, younger teens should have earlier curfews, and older teens later ones.
Second, teens should talk to their parents when out. They should say where they are going, who they are with, and what they will do. If plans change, they need to share the new details.
Third, make clear what happens if rules are broken. Let teens help decide the results. If they know and agree, they are more likely to act carefully.
Setting a curfew means parents set a clear time for their teen 74 . It helps teens stay safe and learn 75 . A curfew also helps teens get enough sleep, which 76 and avoids bad effects like poor school results. A good curfew teaches teens to make the right decisions, build trust, and 77 .

根据“At the beginning of 2025, my New Year’s resolution was...the No. 1 student in my grade.”可知,“was”后接表语,且“be to do sth.”
rose上升;is raised被提升,被动;was risen错误表达。根据“When the new term started, my grades ... quickly, and I felt proud.”
根据“Instead of studying, I wrote pop song lyrics in ... corners of my textbook.”可知,in the corners of...
so所以;but但是;because因为。根据“I wasn’t sleeping early, ... I wasn’t really studying.”
根据“Soon, the final exams came, but I felt very ... every day.”
