Helping Each Other at School
Lily and Tom are classmates. Lily loves art—she draws nice flowers and cute animals. Tom is good at sports—he runs fast and plays football well. But they have problems: Lily is not good at maths, and Tom is afraid to speak in class.
One day, their school has a School Show. Tom's group needs to make a poster(海报) for their sports game. “I can't draw sports pictures,” Tom says. Lily says, “I can help you! Let's draw football players together.” With Lily's help, they make a colourful poster.
Later, Lily has a maths test. She feels worried because she doesn't want to fail. Tom says, “Let's study maths after school. I can also tell you how to be brave—like how I try to speak in class!” They study maths together. Tom shares his “brave tips”, like taking deep breaths.

情态动词(Ⅱ)
一、情态动词的基础概念
情态动词是表达 “许可、能力、推测、义务” 等语义的词,本身有一定词义,需要和实义动词原形搭配,无人称和数的变化(部分特殊情况除外),常用的有can/can't、may、must、should等。
二、情态动词的用法
(一)can/can't 的用法
◆表能力:指某人 “能/会” 做某事,或 “不能/不会” 做某事。
*He can speak three languages. 他会说三种语言。
*I asked if she could join us, but she said she can't swim, so she can't come to the pool party. 我问她能不能加入我们,可她说自己不会游泳,所以她没法来泳池派对。
◆询问许可:Can I borrow your notebook 我能借你的笔记本吗?
◆给予许可:You can use my pen for the test. 考试时你能用我的笔。
(二)may 的用法
◆表礼貌许可/请求:用于正式、礼貌地询问能否做某事,回答常用can或mustn't。
◆表询问:May I use your phone to call my mum 我可以用你的手机给我的妈妈打个电话吗?
◆回应许可:Yes, you can. 行,你用吧。
(三)must 的用法
◆表必须:指 “一定得、必须” 做某事,否定形式mustn't表 “禁止”。
*We must finish the homework before playing games. 我们必须做完作业才能玩游戏。
◆表禁止:You mustn't run in the hallway. It's dangerous. 禁止在走廊奔跑。那很危险。
◆表推测(肯定):用于肯定句,推测 “肯定、一定” 是某种情况,可能性极高。

(四)should 的用法
◆表建议/责任:意为 “应该”,用于给别人提建议,或强调做某事是 “合理、有责任的”。

Community Care Day
Last Friday, our school had Community Care Day. I joined the activity and went to help Grandma Wu in the community. She is 70 years old and lives near my home.
