If you are a distance runner, should your training consist only of running long distances Or is it also
beneficial to do some yoga, lift weights, or swim laps
第 2页/共 15页
Cross-training involves integrating different types of exercise into your fitness routine to improve overall
performance, reduce the risk of injury, and add variety to your workouts. The key to effectively combining exercise
lies in balancing different types to target various muscle groups while ensuring a well-rounded workout. The right
intensity is equally crucial — exercises should challenge the body for maximized progress without exhaustion.
Here are some common types for cross-training exercise and their benefits.
● Cardiovascular: Boost cardiovascular health and longevity, burn calories effectively for fat loss, and
support key heart-health markers.
● Flexibility: Enhance joint range of motion and posture prevent injuries, and preserve functional
independence.
● Strength: Increase muscle mass and functional capacity, aid weight management and reduce injury risk by
strengthening joints and stabilizers.
● HIIT: Rapidly improve aerobic and anaerobic performance, promote long-lasting calorie and fat burn,
lower injury risk, and offer time-efficient full-body conditioning.
If your exercise program leaves you physically tired, you probably should stop exercising for a day or two and
re-evaluate your overall health. However, if exercising leaves you mentally tired, cross-training could help you
look forward to working out. If a friend trains in a different sport, you might try training together. You both will
benefit, physically and mentally!
1. Which is a key method of successful cross-training
A. Following a fitness routine. B. Balancing exercise types.
C. Focusing on a single muscle group. D. Maintaining high intensity.
2. Which types of exercise are the most effective for fat loss
A. Cardiovascular and HIIT. B. Cardiovascular and Strength.
C. Flexibility and HIIT. D. Flexibility and Strength.
3. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph
A. Check overall fitness daily. B. Rest when feeling mentally tired.
C. Compare progress with friends. D. Find a partner from another sport.

It begins with a steady buzz, echoing through the towering forests of Alaska. It’s a signal, but not one to be
alarmed by. It’s less “Duck and cover,” more “Come and get it!”
So you step outside your house, where there are few roads and fewer neighbors, and see it. A single-engine

plane flies low, just a few dozen feet above the ground. The plane’s door whips open, and a black package is
thrown out, plummeting (速降) to earth with a yellow tail hanging behind.
Congratulations, you’ve just been turkey bombed!
The “bomb” is a 15-pound frozen turkey stuffed into a trash bag, tied with yellow caution tape for easy
visibility. Since 2021, Alaska native Esther Keim has been dropping them from the air to remote Alaskans who
might otherwise be eating squirrel, moose or Spam for Thanksgiving dinner.
Thanksgiving falls at a tricky time of the year in this part of the country. It’s a time when rivers, which often
serve as highways in Alaska’s remote areas, are too frozen for boats to travel but not frozen enough for cars. Their
only option for reaching “civilization” is seven hours on a snowmobile. Or, if you’re a pilot like Keim, you can take
to the air.
Keim began her turkey-bombing flights after visiting her family in Skwentna, an isolated village. A neighbor
mentioned how a squirrel he hunted barely fed his family of four. This reminded Keim of her childhood, when a
family friend would drop a turkey — and sometimes a box of candy inside the package just for her — from his
plane to her family every year. “I am gonna drop turkeys to remote Alaskans without road access,” says Keim. “It
wouldn’t be a big deal, but it’d bring me a lot of joy to bless other people like we were blessed.”
Now Keim is working to turn this personal effort into a non- profit called the Alaska Turkey Drop Project. The
project has received enough donations from some individuals and local businesses, with others donating their time
and goods. Every year, that noisy plane soaring through Alaska’s sky brings not just turkeys, but a heartwarming
reminder of connection in the wilderness.
4. What can be learned about the “bomb”
A. It’s a dangerous explosive. B. It’s sent to Alaskans for Christmas.
C. It’s a frozen turkey with yellow tape. D. It’s dropped from a high- flying plane.
5. Why is Thanksgiving a challenging time in remote Alaska
A. Pilots avoid snowy flights. B. Snowmobiles are only for short trips.
C. All roads are blocked by snow. D. Half- frozen rivers are unfit for boats or cars.
6. What inspired Keim to start the “bombing” flights
A. A demand for her nonprofit project. B. A suggestion from her family.
C. Neighbor’s hardship and childhood favor. D. Hunting squirrels with neighbors.
7. Which of the following best describes Keim
A. Caring and inquiring. B. Sympathetic and innovative.

C. Decisive and tolerant. D. Adventurous and ambitious.

More than 1, 000 metres below the surface of the oceans, darkness dominates. Marine creatures rely on sound
for navigation, communication, and searching for food. However, this way of life has come under threat from
shipping, contributing to a rise in underwater volume of approximately 3.3 decibels (分贝) per decade. The trend
shows little sign of levelling off.
With roughly 90% of trade relying on shipping, quieting the ocean through reductions in shipping itself is
untenable . While efficiency improvements of shipping may cut noise, experts say more is needed. That is why
technologies like modified propellers (螺旋桨) and noise-reducing materials are being developed to help humans
and marine life coexist.
Much of the underwater noise a ship produces comes from its propeller. Spinning blades (桨叶) create low
pressure, causing the water to boil and produce bubbles, a process known as cavitation (空化现象). When those
bubbles collapse, a low-frequency noise is produced, disrupting the movements of marine lives.
One solution, being developed by researchers at the University of British Columbia, integrates flexible
polymers (聚合物) into the metal propeller blades, allowing their tips to bend and twist. This movement prevents
bubbles from forming and thereby reduces the noise the blades produce. Based on simulations, the design could
reduce cavitation noise by 20 decibels. Dr Jaiman says researchers intend to start testing a model next year.
Cavitation can also be reduced by increasing the number of bubbles, rather than reducing them. Researchers at
MARIN, a Dutch research institute, have blown bubbles onto a propeller’s blades, which can dampen the resulting
noise. Model-scale tests of this system showed a 12-decibel decrease in low-frequency noise. But shipping noise
does not come only from the propeller, with roughly 20% coming from engines and generators. To reduce this,
MARIN researchers have experimented with a bubble screen generated from tubes positioned in belts around the
outside of the ship. These bubbles prevent noise from spreading.
8 Which best explains the underlined word “untenable” in paragraph 2
A. Impractical. B. Unavailable. C. Unstable. D. Immeasurable.
9. What is the main source of underwater noise from ships
A. The spinning blades. B. The process of cavitation.
C. The engines and generators. D. The bubbles generated by ships.
10. What solution is being developed at MARIN
A. Boosting ship efficiency. B. Creating flexible blade tips.
第 5页/共 15页
C. Generating more bubbles on blades. D. Using quieter engines and generators.
11. What’s the passage mainly about
A. Strategies to prevent ships from making noise.
B. Innovations to minimize underwater ship noise.
C. Adapted propeller designs to restore undersea quiet.
D. Negative impacts of underwater noise on marine life.

When you rub (摩 擦 ) a balloon on your skin, it produces electricity — a familiar example of charge
separation (电荷分离), a process in which opposite charges are separated, creating electric potential. Similarly,
raindrops striking a narrow tube create a tiny yet significant burst of energy. Now, researchers from the National
University of Singapore (NUS) have tapped into this effect to generate electricity using rain-like droplets.
Conventional hydropower (水力发电) relies on large water flows, which only work in places like rivers. For
smaller, slower flows, researchers have explored charge separation. They use a tube to let water flow through it
continuously. Charges gather on the surface that the water touches. In this way, researchers can collect charges, but
it is far from effective.
To solve this problem, the NUS team built a special device. At both ends of the device — the top of the
newly-designed tube (about 2 millimeters in width), and the water-collecting cup at the bottom — electrical wires
were placed to harvest charges. First, water is released from a metal needle, forming rain-like droplets. When these
droplets enter the tube, their impacts create “plug flow,” in which the water forms mini columns separated by air
gaps. This flow is crucial because it allows more surface contact and more time for charges to build up, generating
up to 100, 000times more charge separation than continuous flow. As charged droplets exit the tube and fall into the
cup, charges build up in the water, creating an electric current. In tests, four tubes produced enough electricity to
power 12 LED lights continuously for 20 seconds.
According to the study’s lead author, this model shows how rain can be used to generate clean electricity
effectively and sustainably, especially in rainy places such as Singapore. Its potential is enormous, as it offers an
alternative energy source even in cities. Imagine a rain collection device on your roof, producing small amounts of
electricity whenever it rains — a small step for a raindrop, but a giant leap for sustainable energy technology.
12. What problem do the NUS researchers aim to solve
A. The difficulty of separating charges. B. The lack of clean electricity sources.
C. The inefficiency of charge harvesting. D. The damage of traditional hydropower.
第 6页/共 15页
13. Which of the following best illustrates “plug flow”
A. B. C. D.
14. What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning the model
A. Its potential cost in urban areas. B. Its promising use in green energy.
C. Its complex design for rain power. D. Its practical need for more devices.
15. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Revolutionary Energy from Raindrops B. Urgent Demand for Sustainable Energy
C. Capturing Raindrops through Innovation D. Turning Charge Separation into Electricity

Earlier this month, OpenAI revealed a new version in training mode that is “good at creative writing.” Though
its release date is unclear, as a longtime freshman composition instructor, I’m already aware of the problem of
AI-assisted cheating in writing classes. ____16____ After all, students have been involuntarily exposed to an
overwhelming amount of promotion around AI, and have seen news that makes false claims about how powerful
AI tools are.
Having written two memoirs (回忆录), I know the challenges and pleasures of this work, and I want my
students to experience those challenges, too. The act of writing a memoir is not just about saying “Look at me”.
____17____ This process makes the author more fully alive.
____18____ Using a machine that gathers information online and creates a fake version of you is not just
cheating; it degrades our memories and humanity. Yet it’s not the students who concern me most, but a culture that
undervalues writing and reading so much that some students think skipping them is a reasonable choice.
The only thing under my control as a teacher is what I do in my classroom. ____19____ Whether they write
best-sellers or just scribble in journals, doing the work with their full selves is what truly matters.
Writing can be a way to preserve ourselves and even a form of resistance. ____20____
A. I’ll teach students to write honestly.
B. I can even sympathize, to an extent.
C. This may feel like a battle already lost.
D. Rather, it is about defining who you are.
第 7页/共 15页
E. Outsourcing your life story to AI is disheartening.
F. AI’s fake stories are upsetting, but maybe it’s just new storytelling
G. That fighting spirit is our greatest strength and exists only within us.

“Alex, are you up yet ” The sudden knocking on Alex’s bedroom door grew louder. It was 6 a.m. on Saturday.
His older brother Ben was already dressed and eager to go fishing. Alex complained quietly. He didn’t even get up
this early for school.
For as long as Alex could remember, Ben had been the golden child — taller, more athletic, more popular.
Though only one grade ahead, Ben carried himself with the confidence Alex envied. Their father always seemed to
favor Ben, praising his achievements while barely noticing Alex’s efforts. Yet sometimes Alex caught sight of
exhaustion in Ben’s eyes when their father went on about his achievements.
Alex wanted to prove himself to Ben, to show he was just as capable. So when their father suggested a fishing
trip together, Alex agreed. He had fished often with his dad and was a strong swimmer — this was his chance to
shine. But then Ben announced they would be fly fishing, something completely new to Alex.
When they reached the stream, Ben began setting up his fly fishing equipment, his hands moving expertly.
Feeling incompetent, Alex scanned the ground for rocks to skip. When Ben asked him to tie the fishing knots, Alex
finally admitted, “I don’t know how. I’ve never done this before.” “You said you went fishing all the time,” Ben
said, and then proceeded to explain everything slowly. “Got it Is that simple enough for you ” Alex turned away.
Ben could be really mean sometimes.
Ben climbed onto a large rock and began demonstrating how to cast. Suddenly, something pulled hard on Ben’
s line. The rod (鱼竿) bent sharply. “Hey! I think I’ve got something!” A split second later, Ben lost his balance

【46 题答案】
【答案】Dear Eric,
I’m glad you’re concerned about China’s culture of respecting the elderly. I’d like to share my plan to
optimize our community’s public space for the elderly.
I’ll add handrails and non-slip mats in walkways to keep them safe, place more comfortable benches and a
shaded rest area, and set up a small activity corner with chess and simple books.
These designs meet the elderly’s needs: they walk slowly and need safe facilities, and they also need a cozy
place to relax and communicate. It’s my small effort to carry forward this fine culture.
Yours,
Li Hua

【47 题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
Alex carefully moved around the large rock, his heart pounding. He saw Ben soaking wet and shaking,
holding tight to a small rock downstream. “I can’t swim!” Ben shouted, his voice trembling with fear. Alex didn’t
hesitate — he jumped into the cold water right away. He was a strong swimmer, so he fought against the current
with steady strokes, getting closer to Ben quickly. When reaching his brother, he put a firm arm around his chest,
using all his strength to pull him back to the bank.
Lying on the ground in the sunshine, they finally regained their breath. Once Ben stopped shaking, he turned
to Alex, his usual confident look gone. “Thank you,” he said quietly, his eyes showing how grateful he was. Alex
nodded and smiled, realizing Ben wasn’t the “perfect” brother — he was just a kid who got scared sometimes. In
that quiet moment, the awkward distance between them melted away, and they both felt something warm and new
started to grow between them.
