Snowboarder Chloe Kim says she’s “good to go” for the Milano-Cortina Olympics, despite tearing the labrum
(上唇) in her shoulder during a training run last week in Switzerland.
Now comes a race against the clock to see if she can get ready for a contest that starts in less than a month.
The winner of the last two Olympic gold medals in the halfpipe posted an update to Instagram on Tuesday,
saying that she wasn’t surprised to learn she had torn her labrum — the lining of the socket that holds the shoulder
together. She did not say which shoulder she injured when she fell while getting ready for this weekend’s Laax
Open.
“There are two ways to do it, and the way I did it is less severe than the other, so I’m really happy about that,”
she said.
“Obviously, I’m really disappointed that I can’t snowboard until right before the Olympics, whichis going to
be hard. I haven’t gotten nearly the amount of reps that I would have liked, but that’s OK.”
The women’s Olympic halfpipe contest starts on Feb 11.
The 25-year-old Kim, who has already qualified for the US team, would be the heavy favorite to win in Italy if
she’s completely healthy.
She said she won’t compete this weekend in Laax. She didn’t mention the Winter X Games in Aspen later this
month, which are the last big contest before the Olympics.
Kim has only participated in one competition this season — last month in Copper Mountain — and while
warming up for the final there, she suffered a shoulder injury, as well.
Last week, she posted video of her fall in Switzerland, which showed her skittering across the halfpipe after
losing her bearings on the landing of a jump.
At that time, she said she dislocated the shoulder and wasn’t in that much pain. An MRI last Friday revealed
the labrum tear.
In her video, Kim said she’ll have to wear a “shoulder brace” that is uncomfortable.
“I went through a bunch of different waves of emotions, but honestly, I’m really excited for this week,” she
said.
“I’m so grateful to be able to do this, even though the lows can get pretty damn low,” Kim wrote on the post
that went along with her video. “Excited for a week of exploration!”
Kim, who has also won three World Championship halfpipe gold medals, is one of the highest profile winter
sports athletes in the US.
She became the youngest woman to win an Olympic gold in the halfpipe at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang
when she was 17.
24. What happened to Chloe Kim during her training in Switzerland
A. She broke her arm. B. She hurt her shoulder.
C. She injured her knee. D. She got a concussion.
25. What is true about Kim’s competition participation this season
A. She only joined one contest. B. She has won several events.
C. She will compete in the X Games. D. She missed Laax Open for personal reasons.
26. Which word best describes Chloe Kim’s attitude toward her situation
A. Anxious. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
27. Where is this passage most likely found
A. In a personal diary. B. In a medical report.
C. On a fan blog. D. On a news website.

In a world filled with flashing screens and digital noise, the sound of children’s laughter in outdoor parks is
becoming rarer. Play, once a universal part of childhood, is now sharing space with tablets and televisions.
The nationally representative poll, conducted in August, included responses from 710 parents of children aged
between 5 and 16. Screens have become a dominant part of children’s routines. Many parents admit that their child
watches videos daily or uses phones and tablets to stay occupied. For busy families, digital play offers a quick
solution, but Mott Poll Co-Director Sarah Clark cautions that balance is crucial.
“Phones and tablets are convenient, and it’s understandable that parents rely on them at times,” Clark said.
“But it’s important to be mindful of how much time is spent in media play and to create opportunities for more
active, imaginative and social play.”
Actually, activities like climbing trees, sliding down poles, or balancing on monkey bars can be powerful
learning moments. Clark reminds parents that these moments help children test boundaries safely. Encouraging
such experiences allows children to face small fears and develop resilience - a characteristic that they carry into
school, friendships, and later life.
Parents also play a vital part in shaping how children experience play. When adults take over playtime,
dictating what is “right,” creativity often shrinks. Clark believes that letting children guide their own play
encourages curiosity and originality. This approach teaches children to solve problems on their own and build
confidence through experimentation. A tower of blocks that collapses can become a lesson in patience. A pretend
tea party can teach empathy and social awareness.
The modern world gives children countless ways to engage with technology, but not all play is equal. Outdoor
play helps them connect with their surroundings, while imaginative play builds emotional intelligence. Digital tools
can complement learning but cannot replace the physical and social benefits of traditional play.
Childhood is a brief window filled with discovery, laughter, and growth. Allowing children to run, climb, and
imagine helps them not only build stronger bodies but also stronger minds. By embracing both play and freedom,
families can nurture a generation that grows up curious, confident, and connected to the world beyond the screen.
28. What can we learn about the Mott Poll mentioned in paragraph 2
A. It was carried out by Sarah Clark.
B. It surveyed children aged 5 to 16.
C. It turned out that children preferred screen time.
D. It aimed to find out why kids like digital play.
29. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 4
A. Highlight some common outdoor activities.
B. Explain why kids learn to cope with positive stress.
C. Show that Clark’s opinions are more instructive.
D. Clarify kids’ fear of engaging in outdoor activities.
30. What is the deep meaning of “not all play is equal” in paragraph 6
A. Access to digital play is not available to every child.
B. Children derive different benefits from various plays.
C. Traditional play is less convenient than digital play.
D. Play has no difference in any form.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Outdoor play boosts confidence and learning.
B. Playing outdoors is more vital than other plays.
C. Digital play is harmful to children’s growth.
D. Childhood is a precious period to shape personality.

Any person who’s ever flown a kite has learned the lesson: Once you can get the kite off the ground and high
into the air, you’re more likely to find a steady breeze to keep it high up in the sky. A fledgling wind power
industry is taking that lesson to heart.
Flying massive kites 200 meters or more above the ground, companies are using the wind they find there to
generate electricity. “It’s cheaper to manufacture, cheaper to transport and also has higher efficiency,” says Florian
Bauer, co - CEO and chief technology officer of Kitekraft, a Munich - based company developing a kite power
system. The carbon footprint is also much smaller, he says. “If you have all those advantages, why would anyone
build a conventional wind turbine (涡轮机) ”
But to become a widespread source of electricity, airborne wind energy, as it’s also called, needs to overcome
a number of technological and commercial hurdles. And it will need to demonstrate that it is safe, won’t harm
wildlife and won’t create intolerable noise and visual disturbances for neighbors. At the moment, kite power is in
its infancy (发展初期). But small versions are already on the market.
In 2025, Hamburg - based SkySails Power became the first company to offer a commercial product. Its
production model consists of a soft, steerable kite up to 180 square meters in area. The kite is attached by an 800 -
meter chain to a ground station contained in a shipping container.
In operation, the kite makes large, graceful figure eights in the sky and powers a ground - based generator
capable of an average output of 80 kilowatts — enough to supply electricity to about 60 average US households.
That’s small compared with a typical 2.75-megawatt (兆瓦) wind turbine but is similar in scale to many portable
industrial diesel generators. The unit is designed for use in remote locations away from the power network.
Eventually, companies want to build larger kites capable of generating megawatts of power. They envision
hundreds of kites grouped together on wind farms, providing electricity to the grid.
However, it remains unclear how widely used kite - based wind power will become. Advocates like Bauer are
confident that they can solve the engineering and computing problems to make the kites cost - effective.
32. How does the author present the topic in the first paragraph
A. By defining the concept of kite - based wind power.
B. By contrasting the differences between kite flying and wind power.
C. By explaining how wind power works.
D. By linking a common experience to a new industry.
33. Why does the author argue that kite power is in its infancy
A. It has not been widely recognized by the public.
B. It is accompanied by limitations in terms of safety.
C. It lacks sufficient promotion to enter the market.
D. It is still under experimentation before wide use.
34. We can infer that the product of SkySails Power ______.
A. has an output of 2.75 megawatts
B. is equipped with a hard and unsteerable kite
C. is mainly used in areas without power network
D. can supply electricity to hundreds of households
35. Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text
A. Kite Power: A Promising yet Challenging Energy
B. Advantages of Kite - based Wind Power
C. A Major Breakthrough of Airborne Wind Energy
D. Traditional Wind Turbines: An Outdated Choice

Stuck doing all the household chores This practical guide can help
In many households, one person shoulders the brunt of the chores and childcare. 36 If we divide
domestic tasks fairly, it can help reduce stress at home and give back precious time to each member of the
household.
1. List every chore and errand (差事)
The first thing you want to do is list out each and every task required to manage the home. Do it in a place that’
s easy for everyone to see and access: a shared notes app, a spreadsheet or a whiteboard, for example. Include
essential tasks like washing dishes or taking the kids to school and errands like grocery shopping or picking up the
dry cleaning. 37
2. Assign the tasks
When it comes to splitting up the housework, nothing is ever equal. Here are some helpful tips on how to
assign chores:
38 If you have chores and workflows in place that are already working for you and your partner or
roommate, don’t worry about reassigning them. Continue doing the tasks that bring you joy, whether it’s cooking
dinner or folding the laundry.
Share the load on burdensome tasks. No one should have to be responsible for one task forever, especially if it’
s unpleasant. 39 It’s things like nighttime baby care or picking up dog poop in the backyard. That could
mean taking turns on the task or agreeing to do that chore together.
Consider your housemate or partner’s circumstances for the week. Are this week’s conference calls
completely at odds with your carpool schedule Does your roommate need a bit of a break
3. Be fully responsible for your duties
Lastly - if you’re in charge of a household chore, take full ownership of it. 40 It’s your responsibility
to account for what you need. Your partner and household are depending on you.
When everyone does their part to keep the household running smoothly, you can free up more time.
A. Own the tasks you love.
B. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
C. Reassign routines with great joy.
D. Don’t expect others to pick up the slack if you can’t complete the task.
E. Find a way to assign the most time - consuming or least - favorite tasks.
F. Instead of listing all chores, sort them into “daily chores” and “weekly errands”.
G. Don’t forget to add tasks that might be less visible, like writing thank you cards.

The school music competition was only two weeks away, and the pressure was getting to everyone in the
practice room. As the lead guitarist for their band “The Echoes,” sixteen - year - old Damon felt it most of all. His
best friend, Mark, was the drummer, and they had been dreaming of this moment since they first learned to play.
However, lately, nothing seemed to go right. During their afternoon practice, Damon missed a crucial note,
causing the whole song to fall apart. “Can you please focus, Damon ” Mark said, his voice tight with frustration.
He threw his drumsticks down. “We’ll never win if we keep making silly mistakes like that.”
Damon felt his face grow hot. “It was one mistake! You’re not perfect either,” he shot back. The argument
escalated quickly, fueled by weeks of stress and lack of sleep. Harsh words were spoken about commitment and
talent, words they didn’t truly mean but couldn’t take back. Finally, Mark grabbed his backpack. “I’m done for
today,” he said coldly, and walked out, slamming the door behind him.
The silence in the room was heavy and uncomfortable. Damon was left alone, the angry echo of the slammed
door ringing in his ears. He looked down at his guitar, feeling a mix of guilt and anger. They had never fought like
this before. Their friendship had always been strong, built on a shared love for music. Now, it felt cracked and
fragile.
Damon knew the competition was important, but winning felt meaningless if it cost him his best friend. He
had to find a way to fix this, but his pride held him back. Apologizing felt like admitting he was the only one at
fault. As he packed his guitar, his phone lit up with a message from the band’s vocalist, Maya: “Hey, saw what
happened. The song’s bridge still needs work. Just a thought.” He wondered if their band, and their friendship,
could survive this conflict.

AI-Powered Reading: Help or Hurt
Nowadays, AI tools are increasingly used by students to assist with reading. According to a survey, most students mainly
use AI to improve reading efficiency and for automatic translation. Half of them use AI to enhance comprehension and other r
eason is to improve the experience.
AI can be a great help. It saves time and breaks down language barriers. However, over-reliance might make us lazy think
ers. We should use AI as a tool to support, not replace, our own reading and thinking. It's crucial to develop our own compreh
ension skills first.
Let's use AI wisely to become better readers, not dependent ones.
