Mary began to like her life here. Every morning, she went outside after breakfast and spent most of the day in the grounds. The cold wind brought pink to her face. And she finished all of her food each evening. She was much healthier. After dinner, she liked sitting near the fire and talking to Martha.
“Why does Mr. Craven hate the locked garden ” Mary asked once.
“It was Mrs. Craven’s garden and she loved it. She looked after the flowers together with Mr. Craven. No gardeners were allowed in. ”
“But what happened ” Mary asked.
“There was an old tree in the garden with a branch (树枝) like a seat, Mrs. Craven often sat there, reading and talking. One day, the branch broke and she fell down. She was badly hurt and died soon. Mr. Craven locked the garden and never talked about it.”
Mary seldom felt sorry for anyone, but now she understood how sad her uncle must be.
The wind roared around the house, and the doors and windows banged. Mary listened, and through the noise she thought that she heard a child crying.
“Can you hear someone crying ” she asked Martha.
Martha seemed a little nervous. “No,” she answered. “It is only the wind or the servant who works in the kitchen. She’s got a toothache. Perhaps she’s crying. I’m going to check if she needs any help. ” After the words, Martha left the room quickly. Then Mary looked around the house. Suddenly she heard again the sound of a child crying. She stopped to listen at a door, but then another door opened and Mrs. Medlock came out, “What are you doing here ” she said, and she took Mary by the arm and pulled her away. “Get back to your room at once. ”

China has made a big step forward in its aviation industry (航空业) with the C919-the country’s first home-grown airplane. This exciting development means that China is now able to build its own airplanes, just like the big names Boeing and Airbus. The C919 can carry between 158 and 1922 passengers and can fly distances between 4,075 kilometers to 5,555 kilometers. China Eastern Airlines, which got its C919s first, is already using them on several routes within China.
Up to now, more than 1,000 orders have been placed for the C919. Air China, China Southern, and China Eastern have all ordered 100 C919s each, and they expect to get all of them by 2031.
The C919 is not just about flying people from one place to another. It’s also helping China to develop new technologies and improve its manufacturing (制造业) skills. This can lead to even more advanced products in the future.
Since the C919 started flying with China Eastern Airlines in 2023, it has completed over 3,600 flights and flown for more than 10,000 hours. That’s a lot of flying and a good sign that the plane is reliable. On May 25th, 2025, C919 first flew to Xiamen, which greeted its arrival with the highest civil aviation ceremony of “water gate”.
China’s air travel market is growing fast. As more people travel, the demand for airplanes will keep increasing, which means there will be more of them in the future. Experts predict that China’s air travel market will become the biggest in the world by 2043, and the C919 could be a big part of that growth.
So, the C919 is not just an airplane; it’s a symbol of China’s progress and a sign of even greater things to come.
56.Why the C919 is important for China’s aviation industry
A.Because it is a copy of a Boeing plane.
B.Because it is the first airplane to carry 192 passengers.
C.Because it is the only airplane used by Air China.
D.Because it is the first airplane made by China.
57.The first customer of the C919 is from ________ Airlines.
A.Air China B.Airbus C.China Eastern D.China Southern
58.The highest civil aviation ceremony is ________.
A.fireworks B.water gate C.cutting the ribbon D.fly-past by aircraft
59.What does the underlined word “them” refer to in Para. 5
A.Trips. B.Records. C.Airplanes. D.Products.
60.Which statement can be inferred from the passage
A.China’s aviation industry has a bright and hopeful future.
B.More than 10,000 orders have been placed for the C919.
C.The C919 is only about carrying people to travel.
D.More industries will be created because of the C919.

Wetlands are land areas covered by water most of the time. This can either be fresh water, salty water or mixed water. They form naturally or are made by humans when water collects and cannot run off. Wetlands are on almost every continent (大洲).
Wetlands are really important. They are home to about 100,000 kinds of animals, and 40% of the world’s plants and animals depend on wetlands to live. Wetlands also help fight climate change by taking in lots of carbon (碳) to reduce CO2 in the air. During heavy rains, they take in water to reduce flooding, and in dry seasons, they slowly let stored water go to help fight droughts (干旱). Over 1 billion people live on wetlands for jobs like fishing, rice farming, and tourism. In fact, food grown in wetlands feeds more than half of the world’s population.
However, wetlands are disappearing fast. Since 1970, more than 33% of wetlands have been lost. Wastes from people’s daily life and factory production harm these areas. Dams (水坝) stop rivers and this shrinks wetlands. Invasive species (入侵物种) also cause problems. Some plants grow quickly, pushing out local species and harming fish by reducing O2.
Protecting wetlands requires global action. In 1971, 172 countries signed the Convention on Wetlands to protect these ecosystems. For example, in 2020, China’s wetland protection rate was 52.7%, with a planned increase of 2.4% every five years. And the UK plans to create and restore 1,000 km of wetlands by 2050.
It isn’t just governments’ responsibility to protect wetlands. Everyone can help. Simple actions like planting native (本土的) trees near rivers, or joining clean-up activities make a difference. By valuing wetlands and working together, we can protect these important ecosystems for our planet’s future.
61.Wetlands ________.
A.are only covered by fresh water B.aren’t created by humans
C.can help fight climate change D.can’t be used to grow rice
62.What does the underlined word “shrinks” in Paragraph 3 mean

65.What does the writer want to tell us in the last two paragraphs
A.What and where are wetlands B.What problems do wetlands face

Sometimes people think, “What if something goes wrong ” It is important to realize this and manage it well. 66
What are “what if” thoughts
Worrying about the future is a normal part of life. From time to time, everyone wonders what would happen if something doesn’t go to plan: “What if I make a mistake ” or “What if everyone laughs at me ” 67 When you spend a lot of time worrying about bad things that could happen, it’s called “catastrophising (杞人忧天)” —because you’re imagining the future could be a catastrophe. For example, you might feel nervous and unwell, and it can make it hard to focus on what you’re doing or what people are saying.
How to deal with the worries
68 Young people’s counsellor (指导员) Angela McMillan suggests creating an “If/then” plan. “For example,” she says, “If you have to stand up in front of the class, then you will take three deep breaths and remind yourself you have prepared and you’re OK. Or if the social event is really noisy and you feel overwhelmed (不知所措的), then you can step outside for a few minutes.” You can also know what you’re worrying about and then challenge it. For example, instead of thinking “What if I miss the ball ” you can ask “What if I kick the ball successfully ”
69
McMillan points out that most worries never happen. “Remember they are thoughts and the bravest thing we can do is to not let the worry win,” she says. 70 That could be the book you’re reading, the TV show you’re watching or the conversation you’re having. Getting cross with yourself will make you feel worse, so be kind to yourself.
A.It’s important to be kind.
B.So you won’t fall into worry.
C.These “what-if” worries focus on a terrible result.
D.There are different ways you can help yourself.
