Sea level is rising due to climate change, which threatens the future of millions of people around the world. Also, it threatens our cultural past. “It’s really the history of our species that’s at risk in a lot of ways,” says Meghan Howey, an archaeologist at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Another archaeologist Anderson recently used online data to look at the dangers caused by rising seas to cultural sites in the southeastern United States. He found a one-metre rise in sea level could destroy more than 13,000 of those places.
So how are we going to protect the important places Efforts to limit the worst impacts from climate change, including sea level rise, will require cutting greenhouse-gas emissions(排放) or maybe taking steps to limit flooding in important areas. Another approach might be to move cultural treasures. But projects like that are often very expensive. It’s unlikely that funds to do that will be available for every site. And some treasures simply can’t be moved.
But high-tech tools might help preserve knowledge of those treasures before physical sites are lost, says Mark McCoy, an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. For example, scanning and imaging tools can help. LIDAR is a type of system that uses lasers to make exact 3D scans of objects. High-resolution digital photography can make detailed puter technologies can also create 3D virtual reality models.
Rising seas are likely to eventually bury a lot of archaeological treasures. And in some cases, the old techniques that archaeologists have long used may also help. “I still use traditional methods out on a site when the conditions call for it,” McCoy notes. For example, he says, “Paper and pencil do not require batteries and don’t break when I drop them on rocks.”

Historical heritages are human beings’ wisdom. Cultural relics, however, as time goes by, suffer different degrees of erosion(侵蚀). People used to protect cultural relics by hand work, combing, photographing and rubbing techniques. Although this method can keep the basic information, many important details are still ignored.
3D scanning technology features in fast measurement speed and accurate catching capacity. It’s good at collecting enough and accurate 3D data from different angles, which is beneficial to the restoration of cultural relics when coming into accidental damage. Experts can also virtually restore the heritages through the computer, and finish assistant researches via accurate 3D models.
For cultural relics’ protection, 3D printing contributes to displaying cultural relics.
It provides people with more chances to get to know cultural relics and better understand human beings’ history.
Yucheng Museum has dug out a new collection of cultural relics in April 2019.One of the most important issues for archaeologists is data storage. Invited by Quimbaya ArtxTech, ScanTech conducted 3D scanning immediately on these relics by the 3D scanner. This handheld 3D ray scanner carries a big weight in acquiring very accurate 3D data and brings great convenience for further restorations and researches.
To avoid any damage, Yucheng Museum combined with 3D printing technology based on 3D data to reproduce 1∶1 3D model of cultural relics for exhibition, which aims to make more people get close to history and pass on these precious cultural heritages.
Time flies and many thousand-year cultural treasures have gradually disappeared from our sight due to technical problems. However, 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies put forward very effective 3D solutions for cultural relic display and protection.

In an amusing atmosphere at a historical palace in the Sayeda Zeinab neighbourhood of the Egyptian capital Cairo, a large audience of different ages interacted lively during an Aragoz show, the traditional Egyptian hand puppet(木偶) performance. The three-day event was meant to shed light on Aragoz as a unique art performance, give people a chance to see the beauty of puppet shows, and save the art that faces the danger of extinction.
Aragoz is a classic form of Egyptian theatre art using traditional hand puppetry. During the performances, puppeteers remain hidden inside a small portable stage while an assistant interacts with the puppets and the crowd. It takes its name from the main puppet, whose unique voice is created with a voice modifier(修改器). Performers and the audience interact throughout the show, which creates a comic and entertaining atmosphere, and practitioners must be skilled in controlling the puppets.
The art used to be presented by travelling performers, who moved from one folk celebration to another. However, as these performances began to decline(衰退), performers and their assistants settled permanently(永久地) in fixed places. The number of surviving practitioners has decreased, while many of those who once-performed stories have now disappeared. Many people see the need of protecting the Aragoz shows, explaining that it’s not only an important traditional cultural heritage in the country, but also serves to entertain the public, especially the children.
“The audiences were enjoying our shows. Many of them only saw Aragoz on TV and in movies, while those who saw live Aragoz performances recalled childhood memories,” said Bahgat, a professor of theatre at Helwan University. “We are now in the era of technology and direct communication has become limited, so I see that we have an opportunity to spread this art again because virtual social media could not make up for the human need to watch such live shows,” he stressed.

Books are the most valuable cultural heritage. However, there are many ancient Chinese classics suffering from different degrees of damage due to various reasons. 26 .
Bai Yuzhi, a post-90s restorer(修复师)at the Wuhan Library, graduated from Wuhan University in 2016 with a major in restoring ancient books. 一、定语从句的分类
根据定语从句与先行词之间关系的紧密程度,我们将定语从句分为限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句两种。
二、定义
1.限制性定语从句
(1)关系代词:who,whom,whose,that,which
关系副词:where,when,why
(2)主句与从句关系紧密,中间不用逗号隔开;
(3)定语从句是先行词不可或缺的定语,如果去掉,主句意思则不完整。

Craftsman Qian Gaochao and his son spent more than six months making three “chicken-blood” stone carvings, which showed the taekwondo and wrestling competitions of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.Qian Gaochao is a national inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of the chicken-blood stone carving. He is working on the other carvings related to the Asian Games in the chicken-blood stone museum in Changhua Town, Zhejiang Province.
Chicken-blood stone is one of China’s most valued decorative materials and has been used for centuries to create carved works with unique red markings. With its bright blood-red colour, bright crystal-like jade texture, quality and shape, chicken-blood stone is admired all over the world. It is valuable in art because of its adaptability, which can be made into decorations of various sizes and forms. It not only records geological(地质的) changes, but also reflects the productivity of different times, living conditions and folk customs.
The stone has become a cultural symbol of deepening the friendship in diplomatic(外交的) activities. For example, in 1972, the Chinese premier gave Changhua chicken-blood stones to Japan as state gifts. In 1986, a seal of Changhua stone was presented to the US. In 2016, the Changhua stone sculpture “Haliaeetus Albicilla Duda Portrait Seal” was presented to Poland. In September 2016, 36 sets of portrait seals were given as gifts to guests who attended the 11th G20 Summit in Hangzhou.
“As a craftsman, I’m not only doing carving work but also recording the development and changes of our society and remembering the era through my carvings,” Qian Gaochao says. With the aim to enrich students’ knowledge about intangible cultural heritage, our school students’ union organised an activity called “Getting to Know the Intangible Cultural Heritage Around Us” last week. Many students participated in this activity.
Firstly, students watched the documentaries about intangible cultural heritage, including traditional operas, handicraft skills and folk customs, from which they appreciated the beauty of these treasures. Moreover, many artisans were invited to show their sophisticated skills and students learnt the basics.
By means of this activity, many students acknowledged that they enjoyed themselves and became more familiar with the heritage. What matters more is that more students have been conscious of the importance and value of protecting and inheriting the intangible cultural heritage.
