答案:3.Am/Is/Are+主语+being done
4.疑问词+am/is/are+主语+being done
肯定式 主语+am/is/are+being done.
否定式 主语+am/is/are not+being done.
一般疑问式 Am/Is/Are+主语+being done?
特殊疑问式 特殊疑问词+am/is/are+主语+being done?
Wait a minute, please.I am being examined by the doctor.
The plan is not being carried out well.
What is being talked about by the students
Is the classroom being cleaned now
At present a new home is being built for pandas.
A new railway station is being constructed.
I feel very surprised that the window of our classroom is frequently being broken.
A popular song is being sung next.
Mary, come here. You’re being wanted on the phone.(错误)
Mary, come here. You’re wanted on the phone.(正确)
These magazines are printing.
3.因为被动语态的基本结构为be done,不少学生将现在进行时的被动语态结构“am/is/are+being done”误写成一般现在时的被动语态结构“am/is/are+done”。
Look! The road is built.(错误)
Look! The road is being built.(正确)
The dinner is prepared by Christina.(错误)
The dinner is being prepared by Christina.(正确)
I find the national flag is being raised.
=I find the national flag being raised.(being raised

Team of scientists at the Smithsonian HN Institution wants to protect endangered species on Barth by sending the animals’ frozen skin cells to the moon.
Under the plan, cell samples from animals would be kept safe using a method called “cryopreservation”.
This is when living cells are stored at extremely low temperatures to stop them from breaking down. There is nowhere on Earth that reaches this temperature naturally, However, on the moon there are craters near the south and north poles that never get any sunlight and are always at -320°F or below.
The team said a special station would need to be built on the moon to store the frozen samples. There are already stations like this on Earth, including the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, but they require resources like electricity, humans, and specific materials. They are also vulnerable to threats including climate change, fire, and flooding. But stations on the moon, like Cellskeptat, would not need humans to keep an eye on them or a power source to keep them cold.
The scientists tested their cryopreservation method and successfully froze cells from a fish. They plan to start by preserving wildlife at risk of dying out. If those species went extinct, their cells could be defrosted and used to create a living clone of the animal. Then they would move on to additional species. “Our final goal would be to cryopreserve most species on Barth,”said Mary Hagedorn.
In addition to the freezing technology, the researchers must also determine how they would transport the wildlife skin cell samples to the moon. The journey would require specially designed packaging that keeps the samples safe while they’re in transportation and also protects them from the harsh conditions of space.
The team said that some of the early tests for the project could be done on the International Space Station, a laboratory orbiting 254 miles from Barth. They are also calling for other scientific institutions to join in their effort and help make it a reality.
( )1.What is the primary goal of Smithsonian HN Institution’s project
A.To design a biological research centre.
B. To study the effects of coldness on skin cells.
C.To protect at-risk species by storing frozen cells.
D. To create a database of endangered creatures.
( )2.What do we know about Svalbard Global Seed Vault
A.It is easily harmed by weather conditions.
B.It works better than lunar stations alike.
C.It has carried out successful experiments.
D.It depends heavily on natural resources.
( )3.What does the underlined word “orbiting”in the last paragraph mean
A.Designing. B.Circling.
C.Changing. D.Exploring.
( )4.What is one of the challenges the team must overcome for this project
A.The quality of frozen cells.
B.The number of species at risk.
C.Support from the society.
D.Suitable package for transport.

2.有a-, be-, de-, re-, res-, in-, im-, en-, em-, es-, ex-, con-, com-, dis-, mis-, pre-, per-, pro-, trans-等前缀的词,第二个音节是重音。如:a'bout, be'lieve, ad'dress, de'cide, re'port, res'pect, in'form, im'press, em'ploy, per'mit, ex'tinct, es'cape, con'cern, com'pare, dis'cuss, mis'take, pre'pare, en'danger, pro'duce, trans'late 等。
A'merican, bi'ology, in'telligent等, 以此类推。
如:ex'change, 'officer, un'friendly, 'dangerous, re'quirement, 'usually等。
如:appli'cation,de'cision, I'talian等。

The world’s animal populations have decreased by more than two thirds since 1970, according to a recent research from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The London group provided information on 32,000 wildlife populations which included more than 5,000 species. The researchers found that population sizes had declined by 69 percent on average.
They said the loss of forests, human exploitation(开发) of the environment, pollution, and climate change were great causes of the loss. Land-use change is still the biggest threat to wildlife. However, the researchers added,“If we cannot limit warming to 1.5℃, climate change is likely to become the dominant cause of biodiversity loss in the coming years.”
Wildlife populations in Latin American and the Caribbean Sea area were greatly affected. The research showed a 94 percent drop in those areas in over 50 years. Wildlife populations in river and lake habitats decreased the most. Freshwater populations have declined by an average of 83 percent since 1970. For example, one population of pink river dolphins in the Amazon River area of Brazil fell by 65 percent between 1994 and 2016.
These findings are a red flag that warns of a larger system failure on the horizon. Even one species’ population decline can affect other species, eventually impacting the ecosystem’s ability to function. Humans depend on a stable climate, predictable weather patterns, and productive farmland and fisheries to thrive(蓬勃发展), but the current trends are severe enough to threaten many life-sustaining systems.
Our future depends on reversing(扭转) the loss of nature just as much as it depends on dealing with climate change. And you can’t solve one without solving the other. Everyone has a role in reversing these trends, from individuals to companies to governments. If nothing changes, animal populations will undoubtedly continue to fall, driving wildlife to extinction and threatening the integrity(完整) of the ecosystems on which we all depend.
( )1.What is the greatest threat to wildlife populations currently
A.Illegal hunting.
B.Global warming.
C.Land-use change.
D.Environmental pollution.
( )2.How does the author explain the decline of freshwater wildlife in Paragraph 3
A.By listing figures.
B.By analysing the causes.
C.By making a comparison.
D.By referring to a concept.
( )3.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A.Climate change threatens many wild animals.
B. Farmland is the basis of life-sustaining systems.
C.Species diversity is important to maintain a stable ecosystem.
D. Extreme weather events have become more and more frequent.
( )4.What is the main purpose of the text
A.To explain the difficulty of restoring ecosystems.
B.To call on people to take action to protect nature.
C.To present the increasing trend of climate change.
D.To show people’s efforts in reversing the loss of nature.

POSTER
Saving polar bears=saving human beings=saving ourselves! They live in the far, far away North Pole, in a snow, storm and glacier world.
Polar bears often live on their own.The polar bears are good at swimming, so they can catch a lot of food in the sea.To keep warm, polar bears often spend up to 8 hours sleeping a day.But they needn’t hibernate in cold winter.
Polar bears are in danger of extinction for a variety of reasons.Sadly, humans are behind every one of them! First, people are cutting down forests, so the environment gets warmer and warmer.Because of melting sea ice of the Arctic Ocean, the polar bears are losing their home.Second, the sea is polluted by people, so many animals who live in the sea die.The polar bears cannot get enough food and many are starving to death.
It is important for us to protect them.Stop cutting down too many trees! Stop polluting! Stop CO2! Please stop!

Chances are that you can name a few animals that are facing extinction. But what about plants With some 40% of plant species under threat of extinction—and given humankind’s dependence on the plant world—one might think they should be protected as soon as possible. However, so many people suffer from plant blindness which refers to the inability to see or notice the plants in one’s own environment, leading to the inability to recognise the importance of plants.
Now a paper published by Oxford University Press might have found a solution to that. That’s watching nature documentaries. Having noticed that TV shows like Seven Worlds, One Planet, Planet Earth Ⅱ, and Blue Planet Ⅱ increased viewers’ interest in the animals on the shows, the researchers set out to discover if TV shows could do the same for plants.
For the paper, they focused on The Green Planet. The show was watched by nearly 5 million people in the United Kingdom. It features various plant species and doesn’t shy away from environmental concerns. To figure out if the documentary attracted viewers enough to make them want to learn more, the researchers noted which species appeared on the show and then looked at data on Google Trends and Wikipedia page hits for those same species before and after the episodes(剧集) of the documentary aired.
Actually, some 28.1% of search terms representing plants mentioned in The Green Planet had peak(高峰时期的) popularity in the UK, measured using Google Trends, the week after the broadcast of the relevant episode. Wikipedia data showed this as well. Almost a third (31.3%) of the Wikipedia pages related to plants mentioned in the documentary showed increased visits the week after the broadcast. The researchers also noted that people were more likely to do online searches for plants that enjoyed more screen time on The Green Planet.
“Our results suggest that the viewers found certain plant species particularly attractive. These plants could be used for promoting plant conservation efforts,” said the paper’s lead author, Joanna Kacprzyk.

A new United Nations (UN) report says one fifth of the world’s migratory(迁徙的) animals are at risk of disappearing. Animals that migrate move from one area to another at different times of the year.
The threats(威胁) the animals face include habitat loss, illegal hunting, pollution and natural disasters like climate change. Many kinds of migratory animals, including songbirds, sea turtles, whales, sharks and others, move to different environments as the seasons change.
The UN report says about 44 percent of migratory species around the world are decreasing in population. In addition, about one in five of 1,200 species watched by the UN are at risk of becoming endangered, or completely disappearing.
These are species that move around the globe. They move to feed and breed and also need sites to stop along the way. Any habitat loss or other threats during their trips can make the animal populations fall.
“Migration is important to some species. If you cut the migration, you’re going to kill the species,” said an expert.
The researchers examined existing data, including information from the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. The list identifies wildlife across the world facing threats at present.
The report was presented at a meeting of the UN’s Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Attendees of the gathering are examining suggestions for conservation measures. They are also working to identify new species of concern. Susan Lieberman is vice president of the international policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, a non-governmental organisation. She said, “One country alone cannot save any of these species.”
The report found habitat loss affected up to 75 percent of the species studied. The report said this shows a big need for more connectivity between separated ecosystems. It pushes governments to take steps to avoid harming habitats and migration paths when building dams, pipelines or wind power equipment.

I’m an ecologist studying the cultural value and sustainability of wildlife use by traders and traditional healers in South Africa.I am also a traditional healer myself and work with conservationists to protect wildlife.
In southern Africa, traditional healers use plant and animal materials, known as umuthi (means medicine), that might come from endangered species such as lions and pangolins(穿山甲).
This can create tension between umuthi traders and conservation professionals. I think a lot about the balance to be struck between cultural identity, healing traditions and the urgent need for wildlife preservation. I meet with traditional healers and umuthi traders in markets in Johannesburg. Behind me, dried umuthi lines the walls in glass jars and my hands are arranged to form one of the greetings of a traditional healer.
Being a healer as well as a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town brings me unique insights/opinions. Often, conservation objectives clash with deeply rooted cultural practices. I try to bridge those two fields and build trust between healers, tribal authorities, traders and conservationists—a challenging endeavour in the light of historical research practices.
Practices that bring these groups together, such as ones that promote home-grown medicinal plants, have had promising outcomes. I talk to communities about our conservation laws and how they could be changed to allow sustainable harvesting of natural products. I want to make communities become administrators of their environment. After all, if plants and animals go extinct, then that threatens the lives of traders and healers alike.
My double role as a healer and researcher creates its own complexities(复杂性). Yet, I remain optimistic that harmonious coexistence is achievable. My purpose is to enlarge the voices of traditional healers, respect their wisdom, and preserve the balance between culture and conservation for generations to come.
( )18.What can we know about umuthi
A.It must be very expensive.
B.It can cure many kinds of diseases.
C.It’s made from several materials.
D.It’s been accepted by conservation professionals.

C.By advising government to make laws.
D.By making healers help traders.
( )21.What does the author think of his work as a double role
A.Easy. B.Convenient.

Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. The report’s authors are calling for urgent action to restore the natural world.
The Living Planet Report (LPR) is produced every two years by the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF)and the Zoological Society of London. A report released on October 13, 2022 shows that almost 70% of the world’s monitored wildlife was lost between 1970 and 2018.
The report is based on research from 195 countries around the world. Data was collected from almost 32,000 populations of 5,230 species.
Although the average global loss of wildlife is 69%, the rate is greater in the global south. Latin America and the Caribbean in particular have seen the sharpest fall, having lost 94% of their wildlife since 1970. Across the world, the biggest drop was in freshwater populations of wildlife—including almost 1,400 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles—which have decreased by 83%.
The report identifies several causes for wildlife loss, including hunting, farming, the loss of forests, pollution and climate change. However, the report also promotes solutions, such as designing less destructive food production systems, urgently protecting the Amazon rainforest, limiting the use of fossil fuels, and creating new laws to protect our natural environment.
Commenting on the report, Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International, called the figures “terrifying”, and said “we need to help nature recover and not simply halt its loss.” In December 2022, world leaders are meeting in Montreal for the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference, also known as COP 15. The authors of the LPR say that this is an opportunity for a global plan to deal with wildlife loss and restore nature. “Government leaders must step up at COP 15,” said Lambertini. “The world is watching.”
( )22.What does the author mainly want to show by listing the numbers in the first three paragraphs
A.The seriousness of wildlife loss worldwide.
B.The causes of the urgent situation.
C.The detailed process of the research.
D.The drop in freshwater populations of wildlife.
( )23.According to the report, what is a possible solution to population decline of wildlife
A.Stop hunting and farming.
B.Don’t permit the production of wildlife food.
C.Offer legal protection of natural environment.
D.Replace the fossil fuels with renewable energy.
( )24.What does the underlined word “halt” mean in the last paragraph
A.Accept. B.Fear.
C.Suffer. D.Stop.
( )25.What is Lambertini’s attitude towards wildlife loss
A.Indifferent. B.Concerned.
C.Positive. D.Satisfied.

Good morning! I’m honoured to stand here to deliver my speech themed “Save the Wildlife”.
As we all know, our planet is our beautiful home, where wildlife and humans should have lived together harmoniously. However, more and more wildlife is faced with extinction, whose habitats are becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built. Poaching also puts them at risk of extinction. Many precious species are disappearing at an alarming rate.
We must take action to protect them. Firstly, we should support wildlife conservation organisations. Secondly, do not purchase products made from wild animals. Let’s join hands to ensure a harmonious coexistence with these precious creatures and a sustainable future for our planet.
That’s all. Thank you!
