On the way, they had an argument. And Lee hit Jim. Jim felt hurt. He said nothing but wrote in the sand, “Today, my best friend hit me.”

one day ,名词短语,表 “某天”,用于过去时叙事开篇,可置于句首/句末,是故事类文本的高频开篇短语。
拓展:若表将来的 “某天”,用Some day(如:Some day, we will travel together.总有一天,我们会一起旅行。)
go through,“动词+介词” 型固定短语(不可拆分),本句含义为:穿过;通过(侧重从空间内部穿过本句含义为穿过)。

一天,他们正在穿越一片沙漠。
go through 与 go across的用法区别:
go through 从空间内部穿过 沙漠、森林、隧道、人群、城市 例:
They were going through a desert.
他们正在穿越一片沙漠。
go across 从空间表面穿过 马路、桥、广场、河流(表面) 例:
They went across the road.
他们穿过了马路。
On the way, they had an argument.
在路上,他们吵了一架。
On the way 在途中;在路上,表动作发生的具体位置。
拓展:“on one’s way to + 地点”表“在某人去…… 的路上”(如:on my way to school 在我上学的路上),地点为 home/here/there 时省略to(如:on my way home在我回家的路上)。

argument 争吵;争论;论点,对应动词为argue,“争吵;争论”。

hit sb. on/in the+身体部位: 打某人的身体部位
后接硬部位,如头、胳膊、肩膀、背,需用介词on。后接软部位/凹陷部位,如脸、眼睛、鼻子用介词in。
例:He hit me on the arm.(他打在了我的胳膊上。)
She hit him in the eye.(她打中了他的眼睛。)
keep on doing sth.:继续做某事(强调不顾阻碍、持续做)
keep的其他常见用法:
keep doing sth.一直做某事(动作连续不间断)
例:She kept crying.(她一直哭。)
keep sb. from doing sth.阻止某人做某事
例:Nothing can keep me from learning English.(没有什么能阻止我学习
英语。)
keep sb./sth.+adj.使某人/某物保持……状态
例:We should keep our classroom clean.(我们应该保持教室干净。)

decide to do sth.:决定做某事,decide后必须接动词不定式(to+动词原形)。
例:I decided to study English hard.

take a bath:洗澡。bath 前可加形容词修饰(如:take a cold bath 洗冷水澡)。

副词(评注性副词),由形容词lucky(幸运的)+ 后缀ly构成,置于句首,后加逗号,对整个句子的事件进行评价,表 “事情的结果是幸运的”。同类评注性副词:Sadly(遗憾的是)、Happily(开心的是)。
hear “听见;听到”,实义动词(及物动词),后可直接接人/物作宾语,表“听到某人/某物的声音”。
hear sb. (doing sth.): 听见某人(正在做某事)

in time 及时 赶在不好的结果发生前完成动作,强调时机刚好,避免糟糕情况 例:
We caught the bus in time before it left.(我们在车开走前及时赶上了公交车。)
on time 准时;按时 严格按照预定/规定的时间做动作,无“紧急、避免糟糕结果”的含义,强调守时、时间精准 例:
We get to school on time every day.(我们每天准时到校。)
in time 及时,强调“动作时机刚好,避免了不好的结果”。
